Friends of Huntsville Animal Services Page Liked 55 mins D07 - ID# 440983 Female Lab/Chow mix, 1-3 years old SHOULD YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING THIS ANIMAL, PLEASE CONTACT 256-883-3783 with the animal identification number provided. Huntsville Animal Services 4950 Triana Blvd Huntsville, AL 35805 PLEASE READ THE IMPORTANT INFO BELOW (your question may be answered here) This page is largely volunteer operated. We use our own time to visit the shelter, take pictures and post them to this page. With that said, the above information may be the only information we have available for this animal as we do not like to get in the ... (Read More)way of the shelter staff to ask a lot of questions on every single animal. Please know that a high percentage of animals in the shelter are brought in as strays. It is impossible to know anything about a stray animal and many times we can only make our best educated guess on breeds, age, etc. Every dog you see posted here has passed a general temperament test as performed by shelter staff and it is considered to be non-aggressive toward adults. As far as child or cat aggression, that is not a standard test that can be performed on every animal. If you are concerned about either aggression, it is suggested that you visit the shelter in person and ask a shelter attendant for assistance. We do allow you to bring pets in to see if they get along before adopting, and if you elect to do so, make sure your pet(s) are COMPLETELY up to date on vaccinations, especially bordatella (kennel cough). ADOPTION FEES Cats seven months and older are currently $35 as a special Spring and Summer promotion that includes spay or neuter surgery, rabies vaccination, microchip, city license tag if applicable, feline AIDS/LEUKEMIA test, and may also include other basic vaccinations when applicable. Kittens six months and younger are $80. Dogs are $80 to $170 and includes spay or neuter surgery, rabies vaccination, microchip, city license tag if applicable, canine heart worm test over six months of age, and may also include other basic vaccinations when applicable. LICENSE FEES $35 - Lifetime license not included in the adoption fee PER CITY ORDINANCE, DOMESTIC ANIMALS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR A CITY LICENSE TAG WHILE RESIDING IN THE CITY LIMITS OF HUNTSVILLE. It is recommended and the responsibility of the adopter to put their new pet on their choice of heart worm and flea/tick prevention within 30 days of adoption in order to ensure a happy and healthy pet. SHOULD YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS ABOUT THIS ANIMAL, PLEASE CALL OR VISIT THE SHELTER. (Less)

Georgie came to us from a very abusive situation out of state. He was rescued from being used as a bait dog, and as a result, he cannot tolerate other dogs. He LOVES people!!! He needs someone who has experience dealing with abused dogs, and preferably knowledge/experience with rescue pitties. Older children only (12+), not because Georgie would hurt them, but to avoid any accidents if a younger child played to rough or did not understand why Georgie couldn't be with other dogs. GEORGIE ABSOLUTELY HAS TO BE IN A ONE DOG HOUSEHOLD-no exceptions. We would ask to be invited for a home visit prior to finalizing Georgie's adoption. Georgie truly ...     Rocko was rescued from a kill shelter by a family with young children as a puppy. He was great with kids and other animals. Due to job loss, they had to move and couldn't take Rocko with them. He's currently being VERY temporarily boarded and needs a home. He is house broken and will get his most recent shots within next day or two. He is not technically with me, but is with my sister in Mobile, AL. I am just the contact person. Thank you all for the good you do!

He will need to be an only dog or adopted into a house with only female dogs. He is neutered, UTD on vaccines, heartworm negative and on monthly preventatives. He is working on being house broken and still needs a little work on a leash. He's about a year old and still has a long life ahead of him.

We do not have children in our home so we do not know how he would be but is good to an older female dog and a small female dog. He is playful and friendly and would be a good friend for someone willing to love him, play with him, and care for him.

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Zeke showed up at our door around four months ago. We thought we could keep him; he gets along great with our two year old dog, as long as there are no bones to fight over, but he harasses our ten year old dog. He's submissive but becomes somewhat aggressive. He's been neutered, has his current shots, and he has a life time license. We think he is about six months old. He appears to be a blue heeler mix. He is a sweet, cuddly, affectionate boy, but he gets competitive with other dogs and children. He'd be great in a one-dog home. He is mostly house-trained, as well, only occasional accidents.

This is an American Pit bull. She is a female who is about 8 years old named Brownie May. She is very friendly and lovable with kids and adults. She loves to play outside and loves the summer...she loves to sunbathe, lol. She is an indoor dog. She is spoiled. She sleeps on furniture and she loves to eat. She gets a long with most dogs...but not all...doesn't like cats. All in all she is a great housedog. She has been fixed. She never had puppies. She just had her yearly rabies shot and a 9 in 1 shot so she is up to date on all vaccines. I need to find her a loving and caring home with a fenced in yard if possible.

the original owner was unable to take care of her properly and informed me that the situation would not improve so after permission of the owner I took her into my home and have been nursing her back to health. The dog is a 1 year old female, up to date on shots, not spayed, and is about 25 lbs. She is very sweet, smart, submissive and playful. I have 2 cats and she has gotten along with them great and she is also housebroken and leash trained now. Please let me know if you can help me find a home for her. I am a young college student and just do not have the time to permanently keep her and give her the love and attention she deserves. I ... Phone is: (256) 890-1234. 'Pit bull mixes': Pit bull mixes get a bad rap. First of all, the American Pit bull was historically a dog that was intelligent, loyal and trusted. It was often used to oversee children while they played. Remember Petey? Then, as other breeds gained popularity, usually for their designer conformation ('attractiveness'), the pit bull fell by the wayside and eventually was bred with other breeds for fighting and aggressiveness and their inherent trustworthiness was overshadowed. The American pit bull is different from other bull dog breeds and yet they are typically lumped together. Many are actually American bulldogs, American Staffordshire terriers, boxer mixes, etc. And what percentage of pit bull traits gets a dog declared to be pit bull over whatever other breed he might be mixed with? But more importantly, the pit bull is more typically sweet natured and friendly when trained and socialized correctly. Please do not be turned off if a dog that appeals to you is labeled 'pit bull mix'. Come meet it. You will probably be pleasantly surprised and may consider adopting one of the most difficult dogs to find a home for, due to no fault of its own. Whatever dog you bring in to the family, all of the people need to be the pack leaders, whether adults or children. Follow this rule from day one, and no matter what dog you adopt, you'll be working to ensure an enjoyable experience. Pit mixes are typically strong and focused and will require regular exercise. A 'power breed waiver' may be required stating that you acknowledge that this dog will be strong and/or large and may need appropriate training and handling. (Less)

What a great guy Rocky is! He's in the office with me as I write this and I feel so safe alone in a secluded area as he barks quite strongly when anyone knocks on the door. yet the moment I tell him it's okay, he just sits and watches me in case I need him.     Oh this sweet girl is afraid of her own shadow! She has such a timid but curious nature to her. She desperately wants affection, but is too afraid to accept it. She is slowly coming out of her shell but definitely needs a tender person to help her step out of her world of fear. She showed no signs of abuse when she arrived, but was very skinny. She eventually warms up to men or women. When frightened, she just drops to the ground, but allows you to pick her up if need be. She's never tried to growl or nip when afraid, even when cornered. She's just starting to bark for attention which is a huge step for her. She gets along well with ... (Read More)other dogs although she's had limited interaction with them in our shelter. Since he is still a puppy, he still has a lot of growing to do.He is extremely intelligent and prefers the company of others including the 4 legged variety. He likes to play as well as cuddle. He is learning to walk on a leash and loves his crate. Can you open up your heart and home to this sweet little boy and watch him grow into a beautiful well mannered dog.

Hi you most beautiful thing I have ever seen! I am Sara. Have a seat next to me, rub my belly and lets talk all about beautiful me. So as you can see I am a pitbull and I was born sometime late 2011 or early 2012. I recently had puppies and the staff here at this really neat singles resort G.R.A.C.E. is getting me taken care of so I can have no more children. Thank you Lord because giving birth is a chore. I was rescued off the streets and given such a nice room with a nice comfy bed. I love all the staff here because they say I am the most beautiful sweetest girl they have ever seen! When you look into my eyes I can make you fall in love ... (Read More)with me. I am a perfect weight of 50 pounds and I am kinda on the short side which is fine with me. I am searching for a wonderful home where I can give everyone my unconditional love. I enjoy giving kisses and I really enjoy my belly being rubbed. I am your typical pitbull, a major couch potato. As much as I enjoy this resort I really want a home I can call my own. A place where I can have my very own warm couch to lay on. I haven't been at G.R.A.C.E very long and the staff is working with me to see how I get along with other dogs. With me anything goes as long as I have a treat. So how about you bring a ham and cheese sandwich and lets discuss my future with you and which side of the couch I will be able to have. Lots of slobbery kisses sent your way for a lifetime. I was temperament tested and am now SAFER certified. Sara (Less)

Hi! I am Zeke short for Ezekiel. I was found wandering on a local highway with a very bad skin infection and lost all of my hair. Fortunately a very nice lady came along and picked me up and brought me to the rescue group where I have been living for the past year. My skin infection has cleared up and I have gotten most of my hair back and if I must say I look very handsome. I play well with other dogs. I really think I am a lap dog, I love to give tons of kisses. I love to have my belly rubbed. I am just waiting for that special someone to take me home.

MORGAN was rescued by a kind family following the spring tornado's. They actually rescued many dogs but now find themselves overwhelmed and needed to place all the dogs in a rescue. Morgan is a female Retriever/pit mix who is approximately 8 months old. Due to all the trauma, she is a shy and timid girl and will need a dog savvy family to show her love and patience while she learns to trust again

PIease Read Before Adopting a Pit Bull in Alabama
Pit Bull Dogs can make good pets in Alabama if they match your IifestyIe. The American Pit Bull Terrier is a powerful dog with an undeserved reputation for inherent viciousness. A Pit Bull that receives attention, firm training, and thorough socialization makes a wonderful family guardian that is trustworthy with children. Pit Bulls need committed, experienced owners that exude leadership. Pit Bulls excel at high level obedience with proper training. Pit Bulls have been bred for dog fights, and unfortunately a dog that is abused, neglected, or whose instinctive aggression is encouraged, can become hostile and dangerous. Pit Bulls can adapt to apartment life with enough exercise.

lnteresting Pit Bull Trivia Low-Cost Alabama Spay & Neuter Clinics
Some people believe that Pit Bulls are identical to what Bulldogs were in the past. Teddy Roosevelt owned Pit Bulls. Unfortunately, Pit Bulls are often used for illegal dog fighting. A disproportionate number of Pit Bulls are put down in major American cities each year. American Pit Bull Terriers are very similar, and some argue identical, to Staffordshire Bull Terriers.
