We found Rosy in our neighborhood. She was very clean and is extremely well behaved. She is a brindle pit bull with white markings. She seems to be well taken care of, and is probably around 1 year old. We had to take her to the pound because we could not keep her, but a friend got her out and is keeping her now. Unfortunatley, they cannot keep her either. The pound fixed her and updated her shots. They think she has been bred before. I picked Cocoa up a few months ago in TN. She had been hit by a car (I think) had been abused and beaten, had no hair around her neck where a chain had been and had recently weaned puppies. She also had a couple of front teeth missing. After taking a while to catch her - she needs a lot of positive reinforcement - anything negative and she cowers or looks like she may nip and run. 'Good Girl' is really her calling card. She loves playing with other dogs - so far, wants to either eat or play with the cat - but gives in to the cat. stalks the free range chickens - but dosen't do anything else - as yet. Loves playing with the children but ... (Read More)is still a puppy, so can be nippy - my kids have Aspergers so don't read signals very well. She couldn't put her leg doen when I first got her but we have been doing play therapy and she now runs using the leg. You can see a muscle difference in the hind end. She is the colour or a Rhonesian ridgeback with black points. She is a very pretty dog. She is a fast learner and will leave the horse pasture when told, will down, but does like to wander a bit - as I am not giving her as much exercise or time as she needs. She is not allowed in the house (husband's rule) so she is getting bored. She plays with the horses. I think she needs a home where someone is used to abused dogs and knows that they can become agressive through fear. She needs a contained yard and another dog ot play with. She likes to chew things and she above all wants desperately to be you cuddle bunny on the couch. She is a lover and will do as you ask. I think she would be trainable for almost anything. She is a midsize dog - not huge and I will put some pictures up of her as soon as I can. It is getting so cold and I put her in a crate in the garage - but that is cold too, so I would love her to go to a home that knows how to work with a young dog like this. She did test postive for heart worms - very low, and I have been giving her .25 of Ivermectin once a month to kill off any new larvae. Cocoa is a great dog and if we have a smaller place with a fence - and if I believed in outdoor dogs I would consider keeping her - but she is protective of me and uncertian of strangers and I wont chain her so sometimes she takes herself for a walk and as she becomes more comfortable with her surroundings, this is becoming for frequent. Icarus was a stray adopted by a former housemate and then placed into my foster care. He loves to play, and shows affection by rubbing his body against your legs, much like a cat. He is small for a pit bull mix - weighs ~ 40 lbs. He is smart and a quick learner and knows several commands (no, sit, inside, outside, eat, bath, etc). He is submissive when spoken to clearly and sternly, but otherwise will try to kiss you to death and jump on you to induce play. In situations of play with more than 3 other dogs he forgets himself and gets whipped into a frenzy, and must be spanked to calm down. His fur is many shades of brown and grey. Pit Bulls have been bred for dog fights, and unfortunately a dog that is abused, neglected, or whose instinctive aggression is encouraged, can become hostile and dangerous. Pit Bulls can adapt to apartment life with enough exercise.
