Animal ID: 1414Gracie (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Abused/Neglected

Gracie is a sweet pup. She was found roaming a busy road next to our apartments and was almost hit by a few cars. We took her in and she was so loving and followed basic commands, but we are not allowed to have more than two animals and we already have three! We've been warned about a $700 fine and cannot find anyone else to take her in. She plays to rough with smaller dogs and cats, but she has such a sweet disposition towards humans and bigger dogs that we know she will fit right into a family.

Rescue Me ID: 15-05-15-00629Saphira (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed

Saphira is a pit bull mix and hound(I believe). She is very energetic and loving. She is protective and barks but she has never bitten anyone except in play. She is wonderful with my kids and plays well with most dogs. She does wear some as she wants to keep playing and playing and playing. Sadly, we are going to a new duty station that bans and even puts down several breeds, pits among them. We would rather find her a forever home than risk this happening much to my sons dismay. Please help us find her a home where she won't be used to fight or breed. She is kennel trained and rarely has accidents.

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Bella is the sweetest pit mix of all! She came to Safe Haven as a stray who has been drug behind a truck going down the highway. All because he didn't want a stray in his yard. A Good Samaritan rescued her from the guy, and that's how I got her. Bella was very shy towards me at first, but I could understand why. Within three hours, though, I had her following me around without a leash, and she continues to do so! She is still shy of strangers, but again, I can understand why. Bella had several road rashes on her and I even pulled two BBs from her. She had been through A LOT! She was also very skinny. The vet estimated her to be no older than ... (Read More)2 years old, and she tested heartworm negative. Now about Bella herself: She loooooves other dogs, but IS food aggressive. I imagine she had to be in her past life to be able to eat what little she could find. She is leash trained, but will resist when going inside doors (ie vet, pet stores, and sometimes the house). I usually don't leash her unless I bring her to the pet store (where she is well known now) because she's so petite that I can just hold her at the vet, and around the house she just follows me around. She WILL be scared of you at first, but she comes around quickly. She just has to make sure you're not going to hurt her. People haven't been so good to her, sadly. She is not really a barker, but I have heard her bark when someone pulled up in the yard. Once she's comfortable with you, she'll meet you with a tail wagging so fast her butt moves with it. She weighs around 30 lbs, but still needs some weight gain. She's petite, as mentioned before. Doesn't even come to my knees. Bella has been fixed and is updated on all vetting. She sleeps in a crate at night, but does have accidents in them, although not all the time. She would learn to be house trained rather quickly, because she's a smart dog. (Less)

Boss is a wonderful happy healthy lovable and loyal 3 year old (aprox.) That I rescued from negligent owners. He has been great but recently has become aggressive with my 3 smaller dogs so I have had to chain him up. He's fine with adults and has never acted aggressive towards a person and the biggest problem I've had with my one year old granddaughter is him knocking her over by accident although I wouldn't want to leave him alone with small children. He needs lots of love, attention and exercise and would be great with an attentive adult or adults.

**PLEASE SHARE TO HELP FIND A GREAT HOME FOR THESE SISTERS** I have two Pit Bull/Shar Pei mix sisters that are 1 years 7 months old, Layla (grey) Lucy (fawn), that need to be separated into two good homes. They are from the same litter and have started to have a pack mentality. Many canine specialists say once they are separated the pack mentality will completely go away. They are not good around cats as we had to keep them separated from ours. while on walks, They are good when meeting other dogs, and our vet has told us that they never have any problems with them and other dogs while being boarded. They would be great companions in a ... (Read More)single animal home. Right now they are being boarded at Vestavia Animal Clinic. You can call for any questions at (205) 823-7584 or visit them with any animals you may already own to see how they are around each other. They have both been microchipped with HomeAgain and are up to date on all of their shots and vaccines. With each foster/adoption, we will provide an XL kennel, a dog bed for the kennel, an extra dog bed, a training collar, leash, and a regular collar. Layla also has a Thunder Jacket to help her stay calm when needed. Also, our unused dog training time (about 4 months) can be used with Infinity Dog Training. Lucy has one medical issue. She was born with hip dysplasia and is slow getting up stairs and doesn't jump well. Otherwise, they are both very healthy.     Hello, my name is Jake. I will be 3 years old this September. I am searching for a loving home. My neighbors are scared of me because I bark at them. I would never hurt them; I just want to play with them so badly that I bark to get their attention. I am completely misunderstood. They have told my current owner that they would not hesitate to shoot me if I ever got out of my fence. My owner loves me greatly and would never part with me but wants to make sure nothing bad ever happens to me. I was adopted from the pound when I was a puppy. My owner was concerned that I would not have a good outcome there because I was part pit-bull. I was so ... (Read More)happy that day!! All I've ever wanted was to find someone that loved me because I have so much love and companionship to offer. I just want to find a loving family I can grow old with. I think that I am a lap dog and I don't quite understand why I no longer fit the same. I have never hurt anyone nor have I ever hurt another dog. I love, love, love to fetch things that are thrown for me. I have a lot of energy and would love to find owners to be active with me. (Less)

Huntsville Animal Services 4950 Triana Blvd Huntsville, AL 35805 PLEASE READ THE IMPORTANT INFO BELOW (your question may be answered here) This page is largely volunteer operated. We use our own time to visit the shelter, take pictures and post them to this page. With that said, the above information may be the only information we have available for this ... (Read More)animal as we do not like to get in the way of the shelter staff to ask a lot of questions on every single animal. Please know that a high percentage of animals in the shelter are brought in as strays. It is impossible to know anything about a stray animal and many times we can only make our best educated guess on breeds, age, etc. Every dog you see posted here has passed a general temperament test as performed by shelter staff and it is considered to be non-aggressive toward adults. As far as child or cat aggression, that is not a standard test that can be performed on every animal. If you are concerned about either aggression, it is suggested that you visit the shelter in person and ask a shelter attendant for assistance. We do allow you to bring pets in to see if they get along before adopting, and if you elect to do so, make sure your pet(s) are COMPLETELY up to date on vaccinations, especially bordatella (kennel cough). ADOPTION FEES Cats seven months and older are currently $35 as a special Spring and Summer promotion that includes spay or neuter surgery, rabies vaccination, microchip, city license tag if applicable, feline AIDS/LEUKEMIA test, and may also include other basic vaccinations when applicable. Bella has a tender heart that want to love and be loved. If you're interested in her, please contact Chelsie (Safe Haven Dog Rescue) at 334-723-5160. A home check and vet reference check will be required. Adoption fee is $100 which includes: spay, shots, worming and heartworm prevention. Please consider giving this sweet girl a home she so deserves! (Less)

Hi you most beautiful thing I have ever seen! I am Sara. Have a seat next to me, rub my belly and lets talk all about beautiful me. So as you can see I am a pitbull and I was born sometime late 2011 or early 2012. I recently had puppies and the staff here at this really neat singles resort G.R.A.C.E. is getting me taken care of so I can have no more children. Thank you Lord because giving birth is a chore. I was rescued off the streets and given such a nice room with a nice comfy bed. I love all the staff here because they say I am the most beautiful sweetest girl they have ever seen! When you look into my eyes I can make you fall in love ... (Read More)with me. I am a perfect weight of 50 pounds and I am kinda on the short side which is fine with me. I am searching for a wonderful home where I can give everyone my unconditional love. I enjoy giving kisses and I really enjoy my belly being rubbed. I am your typical pitbull, a major couch potato. As much as I enjoy this resort I really want a home I can call my own. A place where I can have my very own warm couch to lay on. I haven't been at G.R.A.C.E very long and the staff is working with me to see how I get along with other dogs. With me anything goes as long as I have a treat. So how about you bring a ham and cheese sandwich and lets discuss my future with you and which side of the couch I will be able to have. Lots of slobbery kisses sent your way for a lifetime. I was temperament tested and am now SAFER certified. Sara (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Pit Bull in Alabama
Pit Bull Dogs can make good pets in Alabama if they match your IifestyIe. The American Pit Bull Terrier is a powerful dog with an undeserved reputation for inherent viciousness. A Pit Bull that receives attention, firm training, and thorough socialization makes a wonderful family guardian that is trustworthy with children. Pit Bulls need committed, experienced owners that exude leadership. Pit Bulls excel at high level obedience with proper training. Pit Bulls have been bred for dog fights, and unfortunately a dog that is abused, neglected, or whose instinctive aggression is encouraged, can become hostile and dangerous. Pit Bulls can adapt to apartment life with enough exercise.
