Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

*****Courtesy Post***** Suzy is a approximately 4 year old spayed pitbull mix. Suzy is looking for a new home before June 30th, 2015 through NO fault of her own. Suzy's owner has developed 2 kinds of cancer which are both rare, and is finding herself am physically unable to provide proper care for Suzy. On top of this Suzy's owner lost her home due to foreclosure in February 2015, and is having to move into a rental property which is hard to find with 3 dogs. Suzy had a sad past before coming to her current owner. Suzy's owner meet her through a New Haven Animal Control officer. This is her story from before she got to her current home per ... (Read More)the animal control officer: Suzy's original owner went to jail and left 2 dogs in another persons care. That person then became ill and was put into a nursing home. Suzy and the other dog were left unattended tied to trees. Suzy was not spayed and got pregnant. Suzy then had puppies, which were stolen from her at about 3 weeks of age. At the time (July 3, 2013) all the municipal animal control shelters were full and if Suzy and the other dog went to one somehow, someway...Suzy and the other dog would have been put to sleep. Suzy's current owner took both dogs home, and managed to get the boy dog adopted that same day! Suzy on the other hand, stayed with her as a foster and to heal from her pregnancy to get spayed. After 3 months Suzy became a 'foster failure'. Suzy is damn near the perfect dog according to her current owner. She was even housebroken in less then a full day! She became crate trained when her owner was hospitalized. Suzy knows 'sit', 'off', 'crate', and comes to her name. She does not know 'down' yet and needs work walking on a leash. She rides well in the car and makes great eye contact with her owner. She really wants to please and be with somebody. She hates drama and does anything to avoid confrontation/conflict. She can be a snugly love bug for hours or have zoomies that seem to never stop. She is easily redirected her her handler. Suzy can be 'mouthy' when playing, but does NOT bite. She backs off quickly when told 'no bite' in a normal voice. Suzy loves games, rope toys, kong toys, and tennis balls tied in multiple knots in old tube socks. Suzy has zero resource guarding issues according to her current owner, but she is afraid of thunder storms and can be timid in new situations. Suzy tolerates baths, but trimming her nails can be a challenge though because she is afraid of the nail clippers. She loves to sleep on furniture and has a special recliner in her current home. Suzy likes to sleep under blankets and will often get under them all by herself. Suzy is fully up to date on shots, on a heart worm preventative, and on a flea/tick preventative. Suzy has been around children and is very good with them as long as they treat her nicely. Suzy is a friendly and social dog who does well with other dogs and knows when to leave them be. She avoids fights and is not ever intentionally a fight starter. Suzy has never had experience with cats in her current home, but the owner thinks she would do well after a proper introduction. Suzy has no experience with small animals or livestock and the owner is not sure how she would do with them. Suzy's current owner may request a application to be filled out through her, a reference check done, and possibly a home visit done. Note this is all through the owner and not our group as this IS a courtesy post. Also please keep in mind that being a courtesy post means we have not evaluated this dog yet and have no info beyond the above info that was given to us by the owner, and make no claims to the accuracy of above info or temperament, health, ext.. Rescue Me ID: 15-04-08-00112Betty Boo (female)

Pit Bull    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Unlucky Betty was surrendered, at the age of five, to Animal Control officers for no particular reason; the owners didn't bother with explanations. While the surrender process is extremely upsetting to most dogs, awakening their worst fears, Betty Boo sailed through these traumatic changes, making friends at every turn. Maybe she was relieved to see the last of those owners. Betty was a cooperative sweetheart during her vet exam and SAFER evaluation, earning top ratings in both areas. Shelter contacts recommended that she could be placed in just about any kind of home with great success. And yet, with all the accolades, as well as the ... (Read More)outpouring of fan mail from the Internet, Betty Boo found herself on the Euthanasia list. Once she was released to us, she continued to show a delightful personality and balanced nature. Betty doesn't have the over-the-top energy that we see so often in other Bully breeds. Betty has a relatively calm demeanor and is easy to handle on lead. She would be an excellent choice for a novice Bully owner. Of course, Bullies are higher energy than most dog breeds, so even though Betty is calm for a Bully, she still needs sufficient exercise to be happy. She has a lithe, athletic physique, and is extremely petite, weighing in at just 38 pounds. Betty loves the outdoors and has adapted like a fish to her swimming sessions. She would be an ideal walking companion, and would do well with one or two brisk leash walks each day, plus focused playtime and obedience work. Betty has not had much formal obedience training, but is beginning to grasp the basics nicely. She has begun her Canine Good Citizen program and impresses us every day. Adopters should continue her program and develop her full potential. Bullies as loving as a Betty Boo should become Breed Ambassadors. The American Pit Bull Terrier represents the highest and lowest ebbs in our cultural relationship with dogs. We chuckled recently when we learned that our beloved icon, Father Flannigan, who founded Boys Town in 1917 Nebraska, was proud companion to an APBT. Times have changed, and now the APBT has considerable image problems, and yet the majority of these unlucky dogs have exquisite, loving temperments. Our Betty Boo is an example of the best of this breed. She is pure hugs and kisses. Betty could join just about any kind of home. She is generally well behaved and friendly to all. Although she is fairly easy to handle, she may overwhelm toddlers and cats, but she'd be fine with older children and other well behaved dogs. As an adult dog coming from an owner's home, Betty has excellent house manners, and is well past the puppy mayhem stage. She is house trained and crate trained, although adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that may occur as she adjusts to a new routine. Betty is a calm car passenger and behaves well in public. Betty Boo is spayed, has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). She has had the 4snap test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been microchipped and dewormed. If you are interested in Betty Boo, please write to Denise@eskiesonline.com or call Denise at 720-903-0636 for more info. Eskies Online is a 501(c)(3) Multibreed rescue group that serves unwanted American Eskimos and other dogs in need. Our group of volunteer foster homes spans the North East, and our adoption territory extends from Maine to eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, and parts of northern Maryland. She loves tennis and soccer balls, daily walks, bones, giving kisses, sleeping by your side, belly rubs, watching television, and rope pulling. In addition, Gem is very smart and knows how to sit and is housetrained. She continues to learn new things every day. A fenced in yard would be ideal, but she is great on walks, with no pulling unless she is excited. She has all her shots and has been spayed. She weighs about 60 lbs. and is a year old. Gem likes free range of her home and would do best in an active, loving home where she gets daily exercise. Gem does great ... She is living in a foster home with small children, but has to be watched because she gets excited and is active. She would likely be best with a family who has older children only because they are more steady on their feet. When Gloria was rescued, she was extremely emaciated and tied to a log with a chain. Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

TEMPORARY MEDICAL HOLD - LONG TERM FOSTER NEEDED Sasha is SUCH a beautiful girl! This gorgeous brindle rottie/pit bull mix came into our rescue several weeks ago from an empty apartment with no heat, water, or electricity. She and 3 other dogs were living alone, in the winter, and literally freezing. She is safe and warm now, and has been staying with a temporary foster who is totally in love with her. She does need to move to a long-term foster family, however. Sasha is a bit timid at first. We suspect there may have been some abuse in her past. When people raise their voices toward her she whimpers. With gentleness and a little bit of ... (Read More)time she warms up quickly, however, and transforms herself into a true love-bug who wants nothing more than cuddles, and to give and receive kisses. She is also shy of other dogs at first, but may do well with a calm, laid back dog. Alternatively, she would be happy as an only dog. She has become fast friends with her temporary foster's dog and they enjoy playing together. We suspect she'd be a better match in a home without cats. She is fine with children of all ages. Sasha has a tumor on one of her hind legs. It has been evaluated by our vet, and she is scheduled for surgery to have it removed on March 26. She is currently on medication that we hope will shrink the tumor somewhat, making it easier to remove the tumor completely. As a result, at this point we are looking for a foster for Sasha and she will not be cleared for adoption until her medical issues are fully addressed. If you can open your home and heart to Sasha as a foster family, please private message our page or email: furryfriendsct@yahoo.com (Less)

Milo has lived in a home with a child for the last 6-1/2 years with a female owner. He is a sweet, loving, attentive dog that loves to be loved. He is currently in a very temporary foster situation and has shown some slight aggression (growling) over food, but he is loose with three other dogs. I do believe he was underfed and neglected which may be the reasons he is showing this behavior. He truly is a wonderful dog that deserves to be in a loving and safe environment. He has been to the vet and there is no apparent medical reason for his low weight. He was negative for heart worm and lyme. Was given up to date rabies vaccine. Will ...     Rosey! This girl is a loveable, funny, friendly, playful pup who is just learning that her future is WAY brighter than her past has been! We met Rosey after she had spent 10 months at Bridgeport Animal Control. She was suffering from severe kennel stress and was said to be dog aggressive. After leaving Bridgeport Animal Control, she spent four months at an out of state facility, and returned to Connecticut, and came into our rescue, in early January, 2015. Rosey spent several weeks with a temporary foster, and did she ever love living in a home! But the foster could not keep her long-term. Because Rosey needed to be an only pet in a home ... (Read More)with older children, at least until we could get to know her better and evaluate her fully, we had a hard time finding a suitable foster family and Rosey spent some time in a boarding kennel. She is now living temporarily with the President of our rescue, who is also a trainer. She is doing SO VERY well! In just about a week she is beginning to relax. She already knew basic commands - and even some tricks! She is polishing up her manners in order to be a wonderful family members. AND she is getting along really well with her foster doggy brother ... :) So we believe that she may do well living in a home with another dog, after learning some manners with her canine campanions :) Rosey is not only a gorgeous girl - she is a really good girl! She will do best with a family experienced with the breed, who can commit to giving her daily exercise since she's an energetic pup, and who can strike a balance of calm, assertive leadership and healthy doses of love and attention. We just love our Rosey, and we know that you will, too! (Less)

Princess is a sweet, loving girl. She began life in a puppy mill where she was bred at least 3 times in the first 3 years of her life and often had to fight for meals. Then she was taken in and kept in a kennel where she was bullied by another female pittie. All she wants is to be loved and cared for, to be your only animal companion. Can you help? Need to update: we were told she was spayed, imagine our surprise when she went into heat a few weeks ago. I am looking into cost effective spaying now.

Chop is a loving black white brindle puppy. Loves kids and other animals but the cat I've had is not adjusting to his playfulness. He has lived with an older cat since he was 7 weeks old. All he wants is a buddy. He is a little jumpy, I assume because of his age and my lack of disipline. He can however sit, give paw and high fives. I would love for Choppy to have a yard to play in. Right now he is restricted to apartment living and that doesn't help with his energy level. He has a sensitive stomach and is not allowed table scraps or excessive treats.

PIease Read Before Adopting a Pit Bull in Connecticut
Pit Bull Dogs can make good pets in Connecticut if they match your IifestyIe. The American Pit Bull Terrier is a powerful dog with an undeserved reputation for inherent viciousness. A Pit Bull that receives attention, firm training, and thorough socialization makes a wonderful family guardian that is trustworthy with children. Pit Bulls need committed, experienced owners that exude leadership. Pit Bulls excel at high level obedience with proper training. Pit Bulls have been bred for dog fights, and unfortunately a dog that is abused, neglected, or whose instinctive aggression is encouraged, can become hostile and dangerous. Pit Bulls can adapt to apartment life with enough exercise.
