Rescue Me ID: 17-03-22-00537Bella (female)

Pit Bull    Age: Adult

Please consider fostering or adopting sweet Bella or donating to her medical fund at: Today I got a call from someone looking for urgent help for someone they work with. It's a long and sad story. And we need a foster or adopter for Bella immediately! Bella was given away several years ago to a local woman who was somehow related to the former owner. Fast forward to today, Bella has been living in a hoarding house in Bridgeport all this time. The woman is temporarily in a nursing home, and had asked a family friend to stop by to give the dogs food. When this person went to the house, she witnessed ... (Read More)something horrific. One of the dogs (all of whom were starving), a German Shepherd latched onto Bella's neck and started shaking her viscously. The person bringing food couldn't even get the door open to try to stop it because the home is a disaster. When she finally got in, she took Bella and rushed her to the emergency vet. Several cats, and two chihuahuas were also found upstairs. The chihuahuas are also with Bella, but only temporarily as the owner can legally take them back tomorrow. The woman in the nursing home released Bella to the family her vet costs were $5000. Animal control took the other animals but were released back into the same home. She will not release these dogs or cats, but we are still pursing them in hopes all the animals are taken from her. The family friend was not aware of the animals' living conditions until now. She did a very courageous thing grabbing Bella and saving her before she was killed. The vet lowered the expenses to $1250. This person has a big heart, but has no means to care for Bella and is already in danger of being evicted from her apartment. She has kids and can't lose her apartment. She used every penny she had just to pay for Bella to be saved. We need a foster right away. Bella is still wagging her tail despite being held together by staples. Her entire lip was nearly ripped off. She appears to be just fine with other dogs, and has been in the friend's apartment with the two chihuahuas with no issues. Once she heals more, we will have her vaccinated and spayed. Her adoption fee will go to the woman who rescued her from the hell in which she was living. Please consider giving back and acting with your heart to help Bella continue to heal and grow. She's a very very sweet soul. She is 7 years old with tons of love to give. PIease Read Before Adopting a Pit Bull in Connecticut
Pit Bull Dogs can make good pets in Connecticut if they match your IifestyIe. The American Pit Bull Terrier is a powerful dog with an undeserved reputation for inherent viciousness. A Pit Bull that receives attention, firm training, and thorough socialization makes a wonderful family guardian that is trustworthy with children. Pit Bulls need committed, experienced owners that exude leadership. Pit Bulls excel at high level obedience with proper training. Pit Bulls have been bred for dog fights, and unfortunately a dog that is abused, neglected, or whose instinctive aggression is encouraged, can become hostile and dangerous. Pit Bulls can adapt to apartment life with enough exercise.
