Rescue Me ID: 16-02-07-00393Bonez (male)

Pit Bull    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Who: Neutered male brindle American Pit Bull Terrier up for adoption. His name is Bonez and he is about 2.5 years. No medical issues in the past or present and up to date on all shots/vaccinations. Reason: My job will require me to relocate several times over the next 7 years including potential international moves. This is not fair for Bonez. Also, I live alone and Bonez is a people-oriented dog and will be much happier with a family. About Bonez: Bonez is a very sweet and gentle dog. He loves humans and is very well behaved, especially around children, and loves meeting new people. He is playful but does so while giving people ... (Read More)their space and does not get possessive over toys; which is ideal for playing with children. He walks very well on the leash, loves exploring, is a very observant dog and likes to give a lot of kisses if you will allow him to. He is very obedient, easily trainable and will quickly adapt to whatever routine you set for him. He is also kennel trained (you can have his kennel and blankets at no cost). Caution: Bonez does not get along well with some dogs. His ideal home would be with a couple or family that does not have pets. Bonus: Bonez and I were a certified Pet Therapy team (I can tell you more about that) and regularly visited physical therapy clinics, a preschool and a nursing home for children with physical and mental disabilities. He has had a lot of socialization around people, children and machinery. We had to stop because my job started to get more intense and I lost time for these visits. Re-homing fee: I am not trying to profit off of losing my best friend. However, I do want to deter people that are not very serious. Therefore, the re-homing fee is small and will go to Rescue Me. Contact: My name is Daniel and you can reach me by phone, 603.831.0317, or by email, dwhitney@udel.edu. (Less)

Animal ID: 0055Olive (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Olive came to us from North Carolina looking for her new life with her forever family up in the north east. .Olive or Olivia, which is what I like to call her, is a precious gem. We are guessing her to be around 7 to 8 months old and we think she might be a Chihuahua/Pit mix. She only weighs 20 pounds and we are guessing she will not get much bigger. It took her a few weeks, but she has come out of her shell nicely. Olivia is well on her way to being potty trained and she is crate trained. She hasn't met a dog she does not like and at night she likes to snuggle close to you all night long %81S Olive will be spayed, micro chipped and up to ... (Read More)date on all shots prior to adoption. If you would be interested in meeting Olive and getting an application, please email adotpme@itavar.com and we will send you one. (Less)

Animal ID: H001Eric (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Female Dogs Only, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Eric is a beautiful 1.5 year old lab/ bully breed mix that originally came from North Carolina. He weighs around 80 pounds and is neutered. He is up to date on all of his shots. Eric is crate trained and house trained and is a smart boy. He loves the water, so he can be your swimming companion in the summer. Eric knows sit and we are working on leash training. He would do best in a home alone or possibly with another female dog. Since Eric is a big boy and needs a little work on his manners, he should be in a home with older children. If you are interested in Eric, please email us at adoptme@itavar.com

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Male Dogs Only, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Mama Blessing came to us from BARCS after she was seized for neglect and being bred without a license. This poor girl is just over one, and a big puppy herself, the people that owned her had no business making her a mama.... Blessing is a solid girl that's WONDERFUL with people of all sizes. She loves children and doesn't seem to mind cats. Blessing has been ok with the male dog in her foster home but cannot go to a home with any other female dogs. Ideally, we'd like to find her a home with no other dogs, but are willing to do meet and greets with calm, submissive males. Blessing is house broken, crate trained, up to date on shots and will ... (Read More)be spayed as soon as the vet gives us the go ahead. Please help us find Blessing her forever home for the holidays! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-07-00007Hank (male)

Pit Bull    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hank is a beautiful blue Pitbull boy! He is about 60 lbs and approximately 4yrs old. He was found as a stray and only weighed 38lbs. He very quickly came back to health at his foster home and we got to meet the sweet boy hiding behind the skinny stray : ) He is the sweetest dog you will ever meet! He LOVES everyone. He is very smart and easy to train. He knows all of his basic commands very well. He also walks on a leash like a pro! He seems to be too interested in the kitties at his foster home so he should have a home where someone is willing to teach him that kitties are our friends or where he will not be around kitties. He has not been ... (Read More)socialized well with different dogs. We are working on this with him now. If he were adopted tomorrow he would have to be the only dog in the house or with a family who was willing to do very slow introductions to their other dogs over weeks or months. Hank was picked up with his doggy friend who he was with as a stray so we know he can get along with other dogs. We will continue to work with him to help him socialize better with other dogs. We don't expect Hank to be around very long. He is beautiful and sooooo sweet! (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Pit Bull in Delaware
Pit Bull Dogs can make good pets in Delaware if they match your IifestyIe. The American Pit Bull Terrier is a powerful dog with an undeserved reputation for inherent viciousness. A Pit Bull that receives attention, firm training, and thorough socialization makes a wonderful family guardian that is trustworthy with children. Pit Bulls need committed, experienced owners that exude leadership. Pit Bulls excel at high level obedience with proper training. Pit Bulls have been bred for dog fights, and unfortunately a dog that is abused, neglected, or whose instinctive aggression is encouraged, can become hostile and dangerous. Pit Bulls can adapt to apartment life with enough exercise.

lnteresting Pit Bull Trivia Low-Cost Delaware Spay & Neuter Clinics
Some people believe that Pit Bulls are identical to what Bulldogs were in the past. Unfortunately, Pit Bulls are often used for illegal dog fighting. American Pit Bull Terriers are very similar, and some argue identical, to Staffordshire Bull Terriers.
