Rescue Me ID: 15-03-23-00109Penny (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Spayed

Penny is an approximately one year old Labrador (chocolate?)/Pit Bull mix with an easy going demeanor. This petite girl seems to have the best mix of laid back/loving life/puppy pep. Penny adores attention and her favorite position seems to be right with you on the couch where she happily snuggles and sneaks in the occasional kiss. It's reported Penny knows 'sit' but this seems to transfer into lay down, roll over, and present belly for a nice rub. Her notes state she retrieves balls & she enjoys toys but her main focus is on people. Penny enjoys handling and was good with teeth, ears, tail and everything in between. It's reported she does ... (Read More)nicely on leash but there is no information on how she reacts to other animals or children. With her temperament she probably would do well in most situations with proper introduction and supervision. Penny will need exercise but should do well with a varied routine as long as she's with her pack. If you'd like to meet Penny, visit the rescue during business hours, 11 am - 4 pm daily. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-01-26-00118Smokey (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats
Health: Neutered

Smokey is a 6 year old neutered male Pit Bull. This boy has an athletic build, appears in great health, and has the best darn 'pitty' smile. Smokey came to us from another rescue who saved him from an owner who basically tied him in the yard and left him so there's not a lot of background to share. He is reported to be very affectionate, which he's already demonstrated with the volunteers. He just wants to be a big old lap dog. It's unknown if Smokey is house or kennel trained. He is leash trained and although he likes to explore, he does walk on loose lead with some gentle encouragement. Smokey knows how to sit and shake with both paws. It ... (Read More)is documented he shouldn't be around cats or chickens; he would probably be best as an only pet in his new home. Smokey is high energy and shows some anxiety in his kennel; he is vocal and even howls on occasion but should settle down in a home setting given lots of love and adequate exercise. If you'd like to meet Smokey, visit the rescue between 11 am and 4 pm any day. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Pit Bull in Idaho
Pit Bull Dogs can make good pets in Idaho if they match your IifestyIe. The American Pit Bull Terrier is a powerful dog with an undeserved reputation for inherent viciousness. A Pit Bull that receives attention, firm training, and thorough socialization makes a wonderful family guardian that is trustworthy with children. Pit Bulls need committed, experienced owners that exude leadership. Pit Bulls excel at high level obedience with proper training. Pit Bulls have been bred for dog fights, and unfortunately a dog that is abused, neglected, or whose instinctive aggression is encouraged, can become hostile and dangerous. Pit Bulls can adapt to apartment life with enough exercise.

Some people believe that Pit Bulls are identical to what Bulldogs were in the past. Teddy Roosevelt owned Pit Bulls. Unfortunately, Pit Bulls are often used for illegal dog fighting. A disproportionate number of Pit Bulls are put down in major American cities each year.
