Blue is truly a big, lovable, mush of a dog. He is a strikingly beautiful blue nose pit bull and it's nearly impossible to walk down the street without someone commenting on how gorgeous he is. He walks very well on his leash but definitely requires a physically strong, dominant leader. Blue takes to almost everyone very quickly and is extremely loyal, playful and loving, particularly with the people he shares his home with. His favorite thing to do is cuddle and he definitely doesn't realize he is a 75lb pit bull...he thinks he is a lap dog. Blue does require a good bit of attention and love and lots of exercise...ideally I'd love for ... (Read More)Blue to be in a home that has a backyard that he can run around in, otherwise he really needs to get a minimum of 2-3 30 minute walks a day. I also think it's best that he is the only pet...he is not bothered by smaller dogs, but definitely is very aggressive towards medium sized and large dogs. He is not the kind of dog that can or should be let off a leash in a dog park. Blue is great with adults, but can seem a bit excited by children ( I don't have any) and I don't particularly want to test the waters, given his size and strength, so I don't think Blue is a good fit for families with small children. Blue is very intelligent and is completely house trained (can go as long as 10-12 hours)...in a pinch, Blue has been trained to walk on into the shower and pee, but he only does that if he really needs to. I have unexpectedly been doing a lot of travel for a new job and I will ultimately be moving in a few months and will not be able to take him with me. It is very important that I find the best home for this wonderful guy. He has been such an angel and means so much to me and he deserves to be in a great home with the love and attention he so deserves. We have had Jane for two years and she has been great with everyone, our other dog, and everyone that came to visit us. Was pretty good in the house too, except for the occasional puppy accident. Then we moved, from Phoenix to Mattituck. Great all the way here, then the last day, after stopping at my families house, she changed. No longer gets along with our other dog (Who she grew up with) and barks at people she doesn't know, and some that she does. Copper fka Blue...just take a look at that face...and those eyes...this young male is crate and house trained AND has amazing leash manners, I cant even count how many compliments we get on walks. He wont even turn his head at a barking dog and he will walk right by a group of people. If they choose to stop for him he waits patiently to get petted. He is amazing around children, as he is very gentle and doesn't jump up when meeting new people. He came to our family very grateful to be around people that genuinely love and care for him. However, due to notes by his previous owner that he did not appreciate having a stuffed toy taken out of his mouth and/or being pushed away from the toy by a child, he will need to go to an experienced adopter who will be willing to work on teaching trade-up games and who understands that you cannot remove an item from a dog's mouth without trading for a treat or another toy. But he is not responsive and reluctant to freely come out of the cage or walk on the ground leashed when physically placed on the floor. He appears completely shut down and refuses to engage the assessor. Accurate scoring of a SAFER may not be attainable for the moment so the Behavior Dept feels New Hope would be the best method for placement for Blackstar. A volunteer writes: Surrendered with his buddy Brown Puppy (renamed Guapo), it was originally thought that Blackstar had an injured leg as he refused to walk. It turns out that Blackstar is frozen in fear... He and Guapo were surrendered due to 'too many pets' and all of a sudden he no longer has the family he knows. I sat in front of his kennel and we chatted a while and Blackstar took treats out of my hand. I carried him into the backyard where with some treats as a bribe he began to walk. Although we are told that he is only partially housetrained he 'went' immediately so certainly does understand that concept. We are also told he is paper-trained. I worked with Blackstar off and on during the day and he began to welcome me at his door, tail wagging slightly and giving me kisses as soon as we were outside. How handsome is Duke?! He has an all white coat that is as pure as the fresh snow. Duke loves attention from people, to play fetch, and give kisses! Duke was a part of PMAR a couple years ago.. Chabo came to us as a rescue from a family who couldn't take care of him anymore. He has been a great part of our home but with the winter coming we will be forced to put him into a shelter and most likely he or another animal will be killed because of that. He is housebroken, loving, and a big mush. He simply cannot be with cats. He has gotten along with many that have come by to visit him but homes were never realized. Fabulous IS fabulous! She is a loving, cuddly 6 year old dog who has had a very hard life. She was rescued from a NYC shelter on the day she was to be killed. She was obviously used for breeding, and probably never got much love. But in spite of her past, she is an affectionate, friendly girl who loves to be with people. She needs an only pet home (chases cats, gets jealous of other dogs), where she can cuddle on the sofa and hang out with a family or single adult.
