Rescue Me ID: 17-10-23-00353Harlowe (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Harlowe! This girl has not had an easy life. After finding herself living on the streets, pregnant, no baby-daddy around, Harlowe got picked up by the local shelter. After waiting the standard 3 days waiting for her family to pick her up and take her home, they didn't show. On top of that, Harlowe had an infection. The shelter reached out to the people at Paw Patrol and that's how she ended up here. Harlowe was treated for her infection, had her babies and they were just the cutest babies ever but now Harlowe has to learn her manners from the beginning. Harlowe walks well on the leash, is house broken, crate trained and one of the ... (Read More)biggest lovers ever (we are thinking that's how she got herself in that mess in the first place...ha!) but Harlowe was not taught how to play nice with other animals or kids. Harlowe does get along with puppies and we are working her way up the age groups. Harlowe takes some time to warm up to strangers but once she does, she will smother them with hugs and kisses. Literally. Harlowe is having a hard time learning she is not a lap dog but if you love to cuddle, then it's a win - win! Harlowe has been vaccinated, micro-chipped and spayed. Harlowe's adoption fee is $150. To meet Harlowe and learn more about our adoption process, go to www.pawpatroldayton.com (Less)

DUNCAN NEEDS A FOSTER OR ADOPTIVE HOME SOON! At a very young age Duncan was found in an abandoned apartment, all alone. His family had moved, and just left him behind. Rescue Me ID: 17-10-17-00098Hannah (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Hannah. I'm about 7 years old and I weigh about 47 lbs. I was surrendered to the pound after some other dogs and myself were found living in a neglectful, unacceptable manner. My friend Toby and I were living in a horse trailer. I have an abnormal bottom jaw. It is unknown exactly what happened or if it is possibly a birth defect. Whatever is wrong with it, it doesn't stop me from eating and drinking like a normal dog. I am a very sweet little girl. I am very happy and friendly towards humans and I get along well with all of the other dogs that I have met since I have been here at the pound. If you're looking for a ... (Read More)sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. IF the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, lack or space, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. The adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are: Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm Saturday: 9 am- 12 pm. The pound is CLOSED to the public on Sunday. There is nobody in the office on Saturday and Sunday, so therefore we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This animal is available to licensed rescue groups only.  Please do not enquire unless with a licensed rescue group. Today Onyx met his vet that is going to do his surgery . We had X-rays done and saw that he does have a very serious issue with his hernia at this time . You could not see his bladder at all in his xrays which means it is getting pushed out towards the colon. Surgery needs to be done ASAP. We had them schedule his surgery , I will be making sure he will have his surgery even if I have to break my pockets . But I NEED help ! PLEASE KEEP DONATING. Every dollar is saving onyx . His surgery has been scheduled for Friday October 20th @ 845am. He will ALSO be nuetered %A4 The price is $1800.70 TOTAL. YOU ALL THAT HAVE DONATED MADE THIS ... (Read More)POSSIBLE . PLEASE DONT STOP. KEEP SHARING. You may now also donate directly to the vet office because we know now that the surgery will happen. To donate to the vet call 3309665569 Put under my account Angela Garman. Also his healing time after his surgery is going to be pretty intense and very hard for his owner . It would be amazing if we could find foster for while he heals or a permanent home OR even a rescue for him to go to after his surgery. If you or anyone you know can help or would like to adopt Onyx please contact me and I can answer any questions . Thank you so much everyone for giving onyx this chance at a long heathy life again ! gofundme.com/qq35w-surgery-for-onyx This is onyx GoFundMe page and his story is updated on it . Please if you can take the time to read his story I would appreciate it and so would Onyx. He needs to have a second chance . His owner now can not care for him the way he deserves and she has fibromyalga and onyx is just becoming to hard for her to handle as he isn't the best on a leash ( which could be fixed with training ) She lives in a small apartment alone and her husband that passed was truly the caregiver of their dog onyx. Now that he is gone onyx is just not getting the care he deserves . Luckily I am here for onyx and making sure he doesn't get put down because people have failed him. He should have been nuetered . But he wasn't . So now I am working daily on spreading his story and getting donations so he can have a second chance and thrive ! He needs an $1800 Perineal Hernia surgery which I am dedicated to getting him that surgery . ALSO he will be nuetered while in surgery %A4 He is UTD on rabies and will be tested for heartworm prior to surgery. He will be put on anti anxiety meds after surgery that I believe he needs daily bc he is a very high anxiety dog. But after leaving my care that will be up to who he goes too if they decide to keep him on it. I know onyx is in Ohio but I know ppl care about onyx enough that we can find transport if u are able to take him. Please let me know your decision . Thank you for taking time to read this message as this baby needs to be heard and saved . He is so sweet and deserves this He is only 4 years old. Not good with cats. But LOVES puppies . Not good with dogs bigger than him but I believe with training he could learn to trust . As he is good with puppies I believe he would be good with dogs smaller than him but it has not been tested . . He is a cuddle bug and still chases his tail lol He deserves a yard to run . And a family that can play with him. Thank you. Hope to hear from you Soon. (Less)

Howloooo I'm Mara! I came into Adopt A Pit from a local shelter as a stray. I was found with one pup and we were both going to be put onto the euthanasia list because I was sooo scared and shut down in the shelter environment! Since being moved into a foster home, I have started to show more of my personality and I'm one big goofball! I LOVE other dogs! Especially playing with other dogs! I'm not so sure about those kitty cats. I kind of think they would make nice dental floss. The super cool thing about me is I'm totally potty trained! I'm able to wait my foster momma's whole work shift without accidents. She says I'm awesome because of ... (Read More)that. I walk pretty well on the leash, I know basic commands and I'm very easy to correct or redirect! Because of my past though, I am hand shy and I take longer to warm up to men than I do women. I was more than likely abused in my life prior to being in my foster home. But once I realize you're fine and I'm safe, I show my big smile and start being my playful self! I just take time and lots of positive experiences to help heal my past! Will you add me to your family? Apply to adoptapitrescue.org under the application tab. Her adoption fee is $175. Hey what's up guys? I'm Ari! I am the sweetest little pittie you've ever seen! I weigh in at a whole #32 with a little room to gain some weight! I absoulety adore all people, all dogs and even cats too! My foster mommy believes I was left outside all the time with little companionship from people. I adore snuggling on the couch in a big blanket, playing with lots of toys, and going on car rides! I think I'm learning how to be a dog. I am a quick learner, and very food motivated. I'm quiet in my crate and I'm learning to potty outside with the help of my foster siblings and yummy treats! Not only am I a gorgeous gal, I am pretty awesome too! ...     Bossi is my baby, but unfortunately with my husband's death, I am unable to keep her. She is a huge blanket baby, but loves a good run around the dog park. Her arthritis is not bad and she takes a pill when the weather turns cold. I use scentless soap, as pit bulls are known to have some allergies. She takes a pill for this, but is very cooperative if given with peanut butter. She is super smart and great to have. Bossi hasn't caused me any issues, she listens and is well mannered. She does not do well with other dogs because of past abuse from her previous owner. Please consider loving on her and giving her a forever home.

I got to spend my afternoon with this sweet girl. Crystal was a rockstar. It was both our first event and I couldn't have asked for a better dog! She did great in the car both ways. She later down on the seat and kept to herself. She treated everyone kindly. Kids and adults. She was curious of the other dogs going in and it of PSP but never barked or pulled she would look and then go back to minding her own buissnes. She was very cuddly and loved to be on my lap or pressed up against me. All this sweet girl wants in life is a cozy couch to curl up on and a human to give her treats and pets. 1 year old. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have been assessed. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

(Less)

Animal ID: 96Khaleesi (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Khaleesi truly is a queen! She has a very regal way about her and doesn't get too excited even when meeting new people. She is very calm and gentle and even does great with her smallest subjects (kids!) Khaleesi deserves a partner or family that she can hang with and get all the love from. She might not do well in a home with a small dog. 3 years old, 67 lbs. 3 years, 1 month. If you have questions or would like to meet the dog featured on this page, please call (216) 664-3476 to speak to an adoption representative at CITY DOGS Cleveland. Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of ... (Read More)Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. (Less)

Animal ID: fosterGunther (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Have you ever wanted to adopt a dog but were worried because you don't know how the dog will behave? Enter Gunther, the silver streak of canine perfection currently living in a foster home! Yes, he's a little older but that only means he's had years to perfect his good behavior. Gunther is a true gentleman: he is house-broken, crate-trained, polite with new people and dogs and well-behaved in the home. He is bursting with love but independent enough to hang out in a room by himself. In fact, he puts himself to bed in the spare room of his foster home, apart from his foster mom and foster dog-sister. Gunther is incredibly tolerant of other ... (Read More)dogs and even tries to play with some. However, if it's clear that the other dog isn't into making friends, Gunther is intuitive enough to give that dog plenty of space. While Gunther likes to sit near you as you're dining, he doesn't try to grab your food, nor does he beg. He merely enjoys your company. Gunther really is a dreamboat and quite low-maintenance. As long as he has a bone to chew and can count on you for some affection, he's overjoyed. Really. He likes to walk around, grinning his head off and wagging his tail so hard that his entire back-end wiggles to and fro. Although Gunther may wobble a bit while walking, he doesn't let it slow him down. He can climb up and down stairs without issue and has no problem trotting around the neighborhood. Did we mention he's a breeze to walk? He's enthusiastic about walks but doesn't pull or get overexcited by passing dogs, squirrels, cats or traffic. His leash skills are impeccable. 67 lbs . 8 years old. Gunther lives in a foster home as part of our Adoption Ambassador, please e-mail his foster mom Stephanie at stephanie.a.super@gmail.com to meet him! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-09-19-00260Rummy (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Rummy. I'm about 1-2 years old and I weigh about 45 lbs. I was found as a stray in the Leetonia area and I was picked up by the pound. I am a very sweet and loving boy. I am very energetic and I need some training but for the most part, I am very good and mind my manners as long as you are firm with me and make me listen. I get along with some but not all other dogs so I should meet new dogs I would live with prior to being adopted. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal ... (Read More)checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. Scrappy needs a forever home. He is amazingly sweet, craves love and attention, and is wonderful with children. His previous home had 3 other dogs and they got along just fine which makes me believe he can be introduced to other dogs but has a hard time adapting by being thrown in blindly with others. He is not so good with cats. Scrappy was never given proper etiquette lessons so he does not understand things like not jumping up when he greets you (which is really rather annoying.) He doesnt understand basic commands like sit, lay or stay as his original owner took no responsibility to teach him or have him taught. Scrappy needs a home ...     Takoda is a 7 yr old neutered male.He is loyal to his family and is a great watch dog. Koda came to us at 6 months with some issues but we have worked with him over the years. We live on a farm so he does not have a lot of contact with other animals but gets along well with those he is around. He is shy around large objects and new people. He dearly loves my two grandsons but other children make him nervous. He would do well with adults in a calm environment, but he still has plenty of energy to play.

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi! My name is Jaime. I am a young adult male pit mix. My favorite thing in the world is spending quality time with my people. I am a velcro dog. What's that mean? It means I will follow you everywhere, all the time. I love strangers, too (I love everyone). My foster dad even takes me to work every day so I can act as the official greeter. My foster family has other dogs, and as long as I get to meet them slowly, I get along well. However, I don't rely on them. I be just as happy living alone. My foster family also has kitties. They are really interesting, but (with reminders from my people) I learned to leave them alone. We actually got to ... (Read More)the point where the kitties rub in between my legs. Weird, but it seems to make my people happy, so I let it happen. I love walking, and when I wear my gentle leader I walk really well on a leash. Otherwise, I am not a huge exercise pup. I will join in if you want to do something (fetch, maybe?), but if you want to sit on the couch all day, I'm in! My favorite treats are milk bones, and I love to cuddle in bed. I am pretty much completely potty trained, too, so we are ready to get down to the fun stuff! If you want a super loyal friend who will follow you everywhere, do whatever you want to do, and love every minute of it, please consider adopting me! Apply at adoptapitrescue.org under the application tab. Jamie is vaccinated, microchipped, neutered, and on heartworm prevention. His adoption fee is $175 (Less)

Hi, I'm Trey! I am pretty new to CITY DOGS, so staff and volunteers are still learning about me, but so far they say I'm a nice boy and love playing with other dogs! Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY ... (Read More)DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. (Less)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Paco. I'm about 2 years old and I weigh about 50 lbs. I was surrendered to the pound after they received a complaint call in reference to me living in a garbage strewn pen outside without shelter. I am a very energetic boy and I definitely need some training but I am very sweet, smart and food motivated so I should be fairly easy to train. I am a super duper sweet, happy and loving boy with people and I get along well with other dogs. I used to live in the house before my owners separated, but once they split up, I was put outside. I was housebroken before, so I should pick back up on being a house dog pretty quickly. ... (Read More)If you're looking for a great dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Animal ID: AleaAlea (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Alea is a special needs girl that needs a special type of home. She isn't deaf, or blind, diabetic or a tripod. She isn't aggressive and she isn't destructive. Alea is scared. She is a timid girl that needs a family that will give her time to adjust. And for Alea, that won't be days, or weeks, it will be months. She is so sweet and loves to be with her person. She isn't high energy at all, and is fine left out of the crate (although she does enjoy napping in it). She enjoys chewing bones while hearing about your day, and if you don't finish your dinner, no worries, Alea will. What she needs is a quiet home, time to realize she's home ... (Read More)once and for all and lots of patience. She adores kids, but would do better with older kids because they usually aren't as loud and hyper. And other dogs terrify her, so she must be an only dog. Men can be a little scary, but with time and treats, she will warm up. So if you have a quiet home, and are looking for a sweet, low energy companion, please consider Alea. She really deserves a place to finally relax. Don't wait, apply today at www.adoptapitrescue.org under the applications tab! Alea is about 3 years old, is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped and heartworm tested.     Hello, my name is Trinity. It's nice to meet you. I'm only around two years old, but I've had a rough life. When I came to the shelter I was very underweight. I was also having a really bad hair day so they said nobody could adopt me. I was a damsel in distress and needed RESCUED! Lucky for me, a really swell guy called, Foster, showed up and took me to his house. That was so cool because I really like guys. Foster dude is teaching me all kinds of things about being a good girl, like sitting when I want attention instead of jumping into his lap. I really like sitting on his lap though, and he lets me sometimes. I also like it when he ... (Read More)takes me for a walk. I'm super chill on a leash, and I'm learning how it's polite to sit when Foster stops. I love all of Foster's doggie neighbors; they are so much fun to play with! I also like to play with Foster. Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Gina. I'm around 1 year old and I weigh about 37 lbs. I was taken in by the pound from a very neglectful situation and I am now looking for a loving home. I am very shy and afraid of new people. I kind of bark a lot to try to make myself seem tough. It takes me some time to warm up to you and learn that I can trust you but once I do, I warm up to be a very sweet little girl. I have lived outside my whole life, chained up. There were multiple reports made to the pound that I was being neglected and mistreated. My previous owner also said that their other dog hated me and I was attacked by it several times, so I also ... (Read More)have trust issues with other dogs. I need a patient, loving family with time to train and socialize me. If you think I'd be a good fit for your family, please consider adopting me. Hi there. My name is Popeye. I'm about 3 years old and I weigh about 50 lbs. I was found as a stray in the East Liverpool area with a bad injury to my face. Unfortunately my left eye was popped out of the socket and the vet was unable to save it, so it had to be removed. My surgery was on 6/23. Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament

Hoss is a big, spoiled, lap dog. We adopted him about 3 months ago after he passed a 'cat test'. As soon as we got home, we found that he was definitely not good with our indoor or outdoor cats. We love him dearly, so we decided to try to make it work. We gated off the house and did our best to keep him separated, hoping things would improve, but they never have, which makes things difficult. Then, after almost 3 months of being nearly silent, he 'found his voice' and started barking when he wants to go outside, gets excited and wants to play, etc. Because he is large and intimidating, and this was new behavior, it has scared some ... (Read More)family members to the point that I don't think we can regain their trust. He has never hurt anyone, and I don't think he ever would. The vet described him as having an 'exceptional temperament', and an experienced K9 officer who spent about 2 hours with him described him as 'about the least aggressive dog I've ever seen'. He is housebroken, and will sit, lay down, etc on command. He enters his crate on command, and sleeps there with no issues. Doesn't bark at cars, etc. He seemed to be fine with other dogs when he was at the shelter, and he didn't seem aggressive toward other dogs in obedience class (curious, but didn't bark or growl at them), but he hasn't really been around other dogs since then. My kids are grown, so I don't have any experience with him 1 on 1 with smaller kids. He loves to snuggle, sit on your lap, etc. He's a very sweet dog, but I can't keep him. I will be very picky about his new home, as he is too good a dog to end up in a bad situation. (Less)
