Urgent: This animal could be euthanized if not adopted soon.

Rescue Me ID: 17-01-23-00076Dynasty (female)

Pit Bull    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Needs to be Spayed

Very sweet dog and very loveable while being only dog. Gets along with most dogs, but also dangerous around some. As long as she does not feel threatened, she is a wonderful dog. She can NOT be around cats. Her owner went to jail and I cannot keep her and don't want to take her to the animal shelter. Very loveable and sweet companion when alone or with a dog that does not make her feel threatened. Desperately needs adopted so she is not taken to the shelter and euthanized!

Animal ID: SassySassy (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Spayed

Hi my name is Sassy! I am about a year old & in my former life I was tied out with no food, water or shelter. Then I was in a shelter for awhile & now I am in a foster home. Because of where I came from I appreciate the finer things in life. I am good in my crate but I LOVE to sleep on the couch. If I can get away with it I would spend my whole day there. I love to play with the other dogs in my foster home & I have no interest in cats. I am shy when I first meet someone but if you are willing to spoil me with treats I warm up pretty fast. I weigh about 50 lbs & my goal in life is to be a lap dog!! PS: I am very quiet! Apply to adopt me ... (Read More)today at adoptapitrescue.org under the application tab. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by ... (Read More)changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have been assessed. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

(Less)

Hendricks is a black pit bull mix. He found us last January 2016. He had wandered into our garage on what would be one of the coldest days of the year and was attempting to eat a bird suet cake. He was cold, malnourished, unaltered, not micro-chipped, and scared. We took him to our family vet who told us that all in all he was in good health, but he couldn't be sure of his age due to the condition of his teeth - he said four, give or take two years. He treated him for fleas, and sent him home with us. We provided him with a warm home, food, shots, neutered and micro-chipped him at our expense. Hendricks is a wonderful dog. He is good ... (Read More)with both cats and dogs, and loves people. He can be a bit shy, and doesn't really 'socialize' with his pack, but is very friendly nonetheless. We would suggest a quiet home, as we believe that his previous owners may have yelled at him a lot. When there is a lot of noise in our home he simply disappears and hides. (Less)

Hello! I am in need of some help. I have been trying to find a rescue for my 2 yr old neutered pit bull. Most of the rescues in Lorain county are full or do not accept his breed. I had some financial issues and had to move home with family, my parents have expressed that they love him but we are crowded in one house and I need to find him a home ASAP. I don't have the heart to just sell him to someone out of fear of him being used for the wrong reasons. Any help would be appreciated! Jennifer

Animal ID: 459-16Mickey (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

The name's Mickey, and I'm a real man's man...nothing mouse-like about me....well, other than my ears! My story is the same as so many other dogs here at the Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center - my people weren't able to take care of me anymore so I landed here as a result. It's a real bummer, but I'm managing the best I can. If you can't tell, I'm a stocky fella, a real athletic stud type of guy. I'm a bit of a puller on a leash and I'm not too sure about all of this kennel business, but this stuff is all so new to me. If I were asked to describe my personality I would say I'm more of an 'all business' type and less of the ... (Read More)'snuggly' variety. Does that mean that I don't like a good scratch behind these ears? Absolutely not...but my previous people just weren't big on lovin' on me so I've got to learn what all of this affection stuff is all about! I'm not too sure about some other dogs...especially the ones who like to get all barky and what not, so if you are interested in me and have another pet, I'd really like to meet them first before I decide if they are cool or not. Anyway, that's me...Mickey...come check me out when you get a chance! Available for adoption at: Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center 1500 Newark Rd., Zanesville, Ohio 43701 740-453-0273 Please call ahead if you plan to visit. Open M-F 11-5 and Saturday 11-1. Adoption fee is $105 which includes spay/neuter, combo and rabies shots, Bordetella vaccine, heartworm test and dog tags. (Although some of the dogs come to the pound spayed or neutered, most do not. If you adopt a dog that has not yet been spayed/neutered, we will set up an appointment for the dog to be spayed/neutered before it can leave the facility.) (Less)

Animal ID: 287-16Unique (female)

Pit Bull    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed

Date in: 7/16/16 **Already Spayed** My name is Unique, and if you think I'm just like all the other pitties walking around, you are so wrong! Yeah I'm a blocky girl and I'm wiggly sometimes, but I've got this knowing look in my eyes that will make you stop and do a double take. Some dogs communicate with their mouths, and sure, I do that too, but I have found that my eyes work much better! When I first came to the Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center I was caught in this legal mumbo jumbo and I spent week after week just sitting in a kennel without any exercise and very little interaction. It was a complete nightmare!! But now I've ... (Read More)been moved up front to the 'premium' kennels and I am living the life! I have my own bed, I can go outside whenever I want, and the volunteers take me for walks! I adore children and grew up in a home with toddlers, so I know how to behave with them. On the down side, I'm not supposed to go to a home with other animals. If you are interested in me and have other dogs, you will need to set up a time for all of us to meet...I don't get along with just anyone :) In the meantime, I'll be here, living it up as much as possible!     Christina here, and I'm what you might call a real 'head turner!' This beautiful, God-given face of mine catches everyone's eye and if that isn't enough, I have mastered the pittie head-tilt like a pro! I am pocket sized, but don't be fooled...I have the personality of a girl twice my size! When I'm out for a walk, I want to go, go, go....none of this standing around business...I've got places to go and people to see! If I do stop, you are in for a real treat because I am an exceptional kisser, and give kisses freely (3 Although my personality is that of a lover, it can be a little stressful here at the Muskingum County Dog Warden & ...     Hello! I'm Eliza and if you can tell by my goofy grin, I'm a happy-go-lucky kind of girl...always smiling...always wagging my tail...you won't find a nicer girl than me!!! Although I'm a little 'thick in the thighs' I do pretty well on a leash when the volunteers take me out for walks. As much as I enjoy walks and being out in the fresh air, my favorite part about being out of my kennel is the time I get to spend all of the kind people here! Don't get me wrong, I like toys and I like playing, but getting and giving lots of love and affection is my top priority! So if you are looking to add some cuddles to your life, then remember me, ...     I'm Nicholas...well that's not my real name, but the Volunteers of the Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center started calling me that after the Dog Warden found me running loose.     Chipmunk is spunky, 40 pound Staffordshire Bull Terrier who is around 3 years old. She spent 7 months at Cleveland Animal Control with her siblings on court hold and once that was up, her foster parents found a picture of her and decided to take her in to help her get use to living in a home. It has been amazing to watch her blossom and see her personality grow! She's got a wonderful smile, she loves to run around in the background, play with toys and be around her people. She is nervous at first around strangers, but if you have treats, you'll be her new best friend! Men are a lot more scary than women for her, so it takes a little longer ... (Read More)for her to warm up. She is dog selective, and we think she could do well with another dog as long as it is calm and either her size or smaller. She thinks of herself as a lap dog and will jump up on your lap to cuddle as soon as she sees an opening! She does well around children, but will get really excited with them, so we suggest she go to home with older children. She is crate trained and does best in a crate when no one is home. Chipmunk loves her walks to Rita's for ice cream and down to metro parks to work on her obedience training. Consider getting to know Chipmunk and giving her a furever home! (Less)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Layla is a Pit/Boxer/Lab mix. She is a great dog with the family. She is so loving and just craves attention and to be loved. She does NOT want to share attention with another dog. She is house broken, never chews and is good with invisible fence. Layla can play catch and is very obedient. She is crate trained... by just using the word.. 'bedtime' or bye byes she will go right to her cage.' We only caged Layla because our other dog is a chewer.. and we did not want to separate them as they would cry for each other. Layla only needs a home where she is the only dog and she will love you like no other.

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Abused/Neglected,
 Aggressive, Fearful/Anxious

Chance is maybe around 5 years old. His owner is in rehab then he will go to sober living for 6 months. I am only allowed a small dog where I live but I've took him to prevent him going to the pound. I need to find him a loving home asap. He was neglected and is in need of a vet. He chews up his back and his ear stinks. I am not working and can't care for this dog. He's some what aggressive and I don't recommend him being around other animals. If you lay a blanket on the floor he'll stay off the couch. He's a great guard dog. He just wants to be loved, he trys to get on people's laps. Just hyper around company, and I would say he's best being the only dog. He might be a little timid at first. (Less)

Health: Needs to be Neutered, Abused/Neglected

Apollo is the most lovable and submissive dog I have known. He thinks he is a small dog and loves to lay on or, touch you at all times. He was rescued from a home that was neglecting him. His ribs and spine were visible when I picked him up. His nails are very overgrown and patches of fur gone from being in a cage so long. He rolls over for my smaller dogs and is very happy at the moment but too big for our home and needs attention that we cannot afford at this time. Speaks on command, sits and lays. Cage trained and house broken.

Pit Bull    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Abused/Neglected

Spyke is a 'can you watch him until we move into another place' adoption we have had now for about a year in half. We believe his first owner's way of 'training' has effected Spyke's development of behavior. He is VERY timid, but only seeks and wants attention. He is a very loving and affectionate boy. BUT he has separation anxieties. Screams, cries and destroys anything he can get his teeth on. He has eating issues. He plows through his food in 30 seconds flat. Slow feeder bowls, nothing worked. Adding fresh vegetables on top of his food seems to work the best. He has potty issues. He has no problems coming in from outside and using the ... (Read More)bathroom in the house. Even if caged he has no problems defecating where he lays. Again, I believe this is all stemmed from the original owner's 'training'. He gets along great with our other dogs, and is the shadow of our great dane. Our great dane is almost like a security blanket for Spyke. We have 2 cats that live with him without any problems. He has no medical problems that we are aware of. Since he wasn't supposed to be our dog, we have never taken him to the vet. We know of no vet records, but we are not sure. The only 'medical' condition we know of, is his nervous stomach. When he goes into one of his separation anxieties, he has major diarrhea. He has been known to destroy an entire futon sofa, iphone, remote controls and shoes. We run a small business and do not have the time to just clean up after him, let alone the time he needs some one to spend with him. He would make a great companion dog for some one who is in need. Or a loving family who might have a stay at home parent. (Less)

Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who ... (Read More)make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. (Less)

The issue we are finding is that she is getting to be aggressive about food. She gets snippy with the other dog and pig. I have a small child that is 2 and she's snipped at him. She is really a loving girl and I want to find her a loving home. So I would recommend a family with older children and no other dogs. She won't hurt cats. She's been around them her whole life. (Read More)DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. (Less)

I am rehoming this sweet pitbull mix. She is roughly 6 months old. She is very cuddly and loving. She was a rescue that was found in the dumpster in August so I am not sure if she is full blooded or mixed. She is VERY hyper and wants a lot of attention. I have another dog that is older and they do not get along. She wants to play and my other dog is not having it. So, I think she would get along with other dogs as long as they like other dogs. I would prefer for her to go to a home with a big yard for her to run around in. She should not be around small children because she gets very excited and will knock them down. She has had some shots ... (Read More)and has been dewormed. She is pretty much house broken with the exception of an accident here and there. She will come with a brand new crate that I just bought.     Cash is a 14 month old Pit Bull we rescued last Christmas. He is mostly housebroken (an accident every once in a while) and crate trained (though he doesn't like it much and whines). He is a high energy pup that loves to play fetch and wrestle with other big dogs. He weighs around 60 lbs, and knows several commands, such as sit, lay and shake (with both paws). He LOVES to cuddle under blankets and is a very loveable guy, that just needs a lot of attention. He would be a perfect fit for a family looking for a second family dog, or someone active that can get him out of the house very frequently.

Dash is a tough case. I have had him since he was 12 weeks old where he was abandoned at my vet clinic. I would call him unpredictable at best. He spends most of his time wanting to cuddle and be loved on and be in your lap. But he gets anxious and can be aggressive at times. He does usually get along very well with dogs once he is able to get to know them and if the other dog is not too aggressive. Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Spike is a year and 9 month old pit/boxer mix. He is a loving pup that has been through a lot. Spike had puppy strangles and multiple infections as a puppy and was very close to dying on several occasions. He was attacked by a hunting dog as a small puppy and needed several staples on his face/lip. He is current on all vaccines and full medical record is available. He needs a good home with a yard and someone whom will have time to play/train with him. He understands and responds to basic commands; does not like leashes and is recommended he be on a harness. He would make a great family dog due to him being great with kids. He is very ... (Read More)protective and is not a fan of anyone rough housing with his humans. He follows to the point of touching. He walks next to you so close he steps on your feet. He does not need a chain or kennel. He is house broken and would prefer he find a home with a fenced in yard. If interested in him please email us with a short bio and why you'd be interested in adopting Spike. Email at: brothersinpawz@gmail.com We will answer questions via email but only serious inquiries. Email with bio and type of home you plan to provide is a must before a meet and greet will take place. Application will be available only after this step is followed.

(Less)

Avery was left when our renter moved out. We kept her at our home because my daughter wanted her. We had a couple issues with my dog at first but have been worked out. However, Avery has killed 4 cats and shows no remorse. It is possible that someone tried to fight her and when she wouldn't fight, used her as bait. She is very loving to the adults in my house but we have no small children. No idea how she would be with them. Only asking to get the money back that we have for updating her shots.

Hi I'm Austin. My story is a sad one. You see my family didn't want me anymore so they took me to a vet to have me euthanized. I'm only 6 months old & I am such a sweetie. The vet didn't have the heart to do it so they called around begging for a rescue to take me so that I would have a place to go for Thanksgiving. I am doing great in my foster home. I am such a lover, I'm great with dogs & I love my foster kid. I truly have something to be thankful for today. I am so thankful that the vet & the rescue took a chance on me.     Hello! My name is Kekoa (kee-KOH-uh [brave one in hawaiian]). I'm a sweet little pit mix and I'm around 10 wks old. I'm super high energy and love playing with my resident dogs and other foster siblings! Snuggling is my second favorite pastime. I'm good with children as well! I'm somewhat fearful since I didn't have the greatest start in life but I'm trying really hard not to shiver and shake when a new situation comes up and I'm doing well! Already I don't shake for very long because I'm just the bravest lil guy! I'm a little bit skinny too but I'm getting more groceries in my tummy now so I won't be skinny very long! I LOVE to eat! And ... (Read More)best of all I'm the prettiest color EVER! I'm a dark chestnut brown but when the afternoon sun shines on me I turn almost the color of red fall leaves! I would love to be your new forever puppy! Pleeeeaaaassee! To adopt Kekoa, visit www.adoptapitrescue.org and click on the Applications tab. (Less)

Animal ID: 105Cannoli (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Cannoli is a playful puppy. He loves to run around playing with you. He will need some training to make him the great dog we know he can be. 34 lbs. 1 year old. If you have questions or would like to meet the dog featured on this page, please call (216) 664-3476 to speak to an adoption representative at CITY DOGS Cleveland. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City ... (Read More)Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. (Less)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults

She can sometimes be shy when she gets scared. She is particularly house broken she has accidents sometimes. I would to pay a home visit before I give her away. I cannot give her proper care because I'm not home as often as I need to be. Any help would be better than sending her to the shelter to be potentially euthanized.
