Cindy & Rhonda are 2-4 year old Shepherd Mix sisters. They were found as strays and were particularly stressed out when separated in the pound. The girls are super sweet and loving, they need a little time to warm up at first - with those scars it's possible they weren't treated well in their past life. BUT - they are resilient and happy and already loving life and coming out of their shells at their foster home! Rhonda & Cindy would be better in a home with dogs their size or larger. One of them is being treated for Heartworm, and they'll both be spayed and all healthy to start their new life in their forever home. Adoption fee for the pair ... (Read More)please call (216) 664-3476 to speak to an adoption representative at CITY DOGS Cleveland. Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have gone through the ASPCA SAFER Assessment. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

Oreo is a very sweet energetic puppy. I am looking for a good home with a fenced in yard and kids to play with. He needs someone who has time to spend with him. He loves being close to you. He wants to sit in your lap and sleep with you but is also crate trained. He is housebroken but has an accident once in a while if you are not paying attention. He goes to the door but doesn't bark so will go in front of the door if you don't see him. I do not have a fenced in yard and I work full time and he deserves so much more than I can give him. (Less)

(Less)

Hi, we are Winslow and Ben. Due to the sudden death of our Daddy we need to find a new home, ASAP!! We are both pure bred Pit Bulls. Our daddy got us when we were babies and we have always been indoor dogs. So we need a home inside please. I'm Winslow, the tan and white dog. I was born on April 18, 2005. I just turned 11. I am a little timid at first when I meet you, but I promise I will warm up to you. Then I will want to kiss you every second I get a chance, I love kisses. I will also love to lay on your lap and have you hug and pet me. I am just misunderstood. I like to bark at people walking by and I think I scare them by barking too ... (Read More)loud. I'm just having fun!! I really do love people!! And I love my brother. I'm Ben, Winslow's brother. I'm the white dog. I was born on May 3, 2006. I turned 10 a few days ago. I didn't get to celebrate with my daddy this year and I miss him very much. I love love people. I want you to pet me as much as possible. I would love to lay on the floor and have you pet my belly. I will also want a kiss every now and then. Not like my brother, he will kiss you all day. I do have sore hips so I need to be careful. I take glucosamine for my hips. I just need a lot of love, especially now!! We love to run and play in the yard together. We have always had a fenced in yard. We have really not been put on a leash or chain. Not that we couldn't try. We have never been around small children and it probably wouldn't be a good idea to start now. PLEASE********We need a new home indoors. We MUST stay together. We have been through enough and need each other more than ever. We just need to be loved for the life we have left. We do not want to go to the pound so please come and get us. (Less)

Chloe is a true miracle and we are so excited to see that she has put on weight and looks absolutely beautiful. (Less)

Chloe is a beautiful, loving dog. She came from a rescue. She was our son's dog, but when he moved, he was not allowed to have her in his new apartment. We took Chloe in temporarily until we could find her a home. We currently have two dogs and one cat. Chloe absolutely does not like cats, and she and our cat have to be separated at all times. Chloe is loving and thinks that she is a lapdog. She loves to snuggle and play. Chloe needs a loving home with no cats and lots of love and attention. She loves to play and be outdoors on nice days.

(Less)

Tucker is a 1 1/2 pit (mix) he is a very loving dog but not good with other animals unless you can work with him because he is very dominant. He has been around kids but I am unsure on how he would act around babies. Due to personal situations I feel like I can not give tucker the time and attention that he needs. He deserves to have a happy home instead of being alone for most of the day now. I hate to give him up but I am trying to do what is best for him. He is updated on all vaccinations. Also, I would prefer him to have a fenced in yard because of his energy and the fact that he is a runner he loves to run!

I have a 1 1/2 year old Cane Corso/Pit/Lab mix named Ace that needs a great home very soon. I've had him since he was 6 weeks old and we are moving and unfortunately we cannot take him with us. He is very loving and energetic. I love him with all of my heart and the last thing I want to do is take him to the pound. He's about 70 lbs approximately. He's a big baby and loves to run and play and love on everyone. He's been around children and other large breed dogs (American bulldog, German shepherd, pits) his whole life, he has never been around small breed dogs or cats or any other animals. In the time that I have had him he has never been ... (Read More)aggressive towards anyone. He also had a microchip that is registered to me but I can arrange to have it be registered to someone else and he is fixed. He has a cage that he loves to sleep in and has never slept outside of during the night. He has food bowls, food, toys..... If there is any questions about him just text me at 234-817-3199 and I'll tell you anything you need to know. (Less)

He has some bite scars on his face and was probably used as a bait dog. However, he loves other dogs and is in dog day-care daily. He has low energy inside and more energetic outside. He is walked several times a day and I run with him 3x a week. He needs to be in more of a quiet home with active people. Kids make him nervous ... and he is hand shy. Housebroken. If you take him and it's not a fit, he is welcome to come back within an agreed amount of time.

(The Humane Society guy said she got loose before he got her.) My doxie passed away just over a week ago and I was not going to allow her to be put down if I could help it. I found out that she was kept in a garage her whole life by a neighbor & she's probably pregnant. She looks to be between 2 & 3 years old. I have a 12 month old large ...     Meet Evie! Evie is a year and a half old. She came to us from a shelter because she was absolutely frozen in fear. She was not permitted on the adoption floor, so we were her only shot. She has since warmed up to her foster mom and showing great progress! She is a dog who forms a strong bond with her people. If you are looking for a loyal companion, she is it! Evie is very smart and will come and sit with ease. She loves to play fetch and even brings the toy and drops it at your feet.     Roxy is a sweet-natured, gentle beauty. She wants to be everyone's friend. A great family dog. I rescued her and saved her from skin cancer. She is registered and all shots are current. Unfortunately, I am not sure of what happened in her past, but she is not good with some dogs. It pains me more than I can express to have to relocate my baby girl, but she attacked the neighbor's dog and I can't risk it happening again. She has never, nor would never show any aggression towards children. I have two and she is nurturing and loving to everyone. Please take care of my sweet baby girl. :(

Tank is a purebred Red Nosed pit-bull. He has been my family's pet for 10 years now, and he has been a good pet. Tank is getting older and has lost his patients with children. And with being said, I have three grandchildren now that often come to my house. This is hard for us to do but we can not take the chance that he would snap at one of our grandbabies. As it stands today he has to be locked up when they are around and I don't think that is fair to him. I really hope to find someone who will take him in because if not we will have to seek other options. I do have photos and will provide them as you request. Tank only has three legs ... (Read More)because on February 8th 2013, tank was shot by one of my neighbors simply because he was walking on the road. The shot shattered his femur and the leg had to be removed. But trust me this did not slow him down at all. He is still a very strong and healthy dog. (Less)

My name is Mae and I'm a 6 month, extra cuddly girl who came into the shelter lost and afraid. The world is a scary place when you're 25lbs and all alone. Other dogs picked on me and I couldn't find much to eat. Thankfully, once at the shelter, they comforted me and made me feel special. I would sit in their laps and cry that someone was giving me love. In my foster home I've come alive. I still love to sit in laps but now I feel happy and safe. There's another dog there I love to play with so I'd prefer a home with other dogs. I'm also good with cats... though they always seem to run away. I'm still young and learning commands... but I ... (Less)

Animal ID: 14216Bob Cornfoot (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there, folks! My name is Bob Cornfoot. I'm around 2 years old and I weigh 85.6 lbs. I was found surrendered to the pound by my (new) owner because I didn't mix well with the other dogs they had. They had a really annoying puppy that just wouldn't leave me alone. I didn't want to bite the puppy, but he just wouldn't leave me be. They only had me for 2 days and wouldn't keep the puppy away from me. I was in a strange environment with strange dogs and strange people. I was not comfortable yet. I really tried to be a good boy! The people even said that I am potty trained and I was good with their kids. I am great with the other dogs that I ... (Read More)have been around here at the pound. I would be especially good with a dog that is calmer and quiet. I don't really like all of the commotion and crazy puppy shenanigans. If you currently have any other dogs, I need to meet them prior to adoption to make sure we get along well. I am a very big, very strong fellow. My family will need to be able to handle my strength. It is highly advised that my new family gets in touch with a trainer to help me with leash manners if they don't know how to work with me. I don't know any better and I will drag you all over the place. I am a really wonderful boy here at the pound. When it is nice outside, I love being left in the large fenced play area here. I love lounging around in the warm sunshine in the grass. Though I can be quite a vocal boy when I'm playing or waiting on a treat, I tend to be very quiet in the yard. I really enjoy it out there even when I'm left alone. I usually just go get a ball and roll around or lay around with it in my mouth. I really love the big, heavy duty rubber Kong ball here. It easily withstands my chewing and has become my favorite. Maybe my new family could get me some... Anyhow, that's kind of all I can tell you about myself. If you think I would be a good match for your family, please consider adopting me! I appear to be in good health. I have been given my Parvo/ Distemper vaccine and I have been dewormed with panacur dewormer. I also tested negative for heartworm on 4/13/16 My pull fee for any approved rescue group has been fully sponsored by my friends Teresa and Karen!! Big sloppy dog kisses to my friends! PLEASE CONSIDER THIS DOG, AS WELL AS ALL THE OTHER DOGS AT OUR SHELTER AS URGENT. OUR KENNEL SPACE HERE AT THE POUND IS VERY LIMITED. THIS DOG COULD BE EUTHANIZED WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE ANY TIME AFTER MARCH 30, 2016. HERE AT THE COLUMBIANA COUNTY DOG POUND, WE TRY VERY HARD TO PLACE ALL OF OUR ADOPTABLE DOGS IN TO LOVING HOMES OR SEND THEM TO GREAT, APPROVED RESCUE GROUPS, HOWEVER, WE CAN ONLY KEEP OUR DOGS HERE AT THE POUND AS LONG AS SPACE ALLOWS. MY ADOPTION FEE IS $120 CASH, WHICH COVERS MY NEUTER SURGERY (WHICH MUST BE DONE PRIOR TO ME LEAVING THE SHELTER), MY PARVO/DISTEMPER VACCINE, RABIES VACCINE, DEWORMING, MICROCHIP AND MY CURRENT OHIO DOG LICENSE WHICH WILL BE HONORED THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF OHIO. THE POUND IS OPEN MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY FROM 8 AM- 4 PM AND SATURDAY FROM 9 AM- 12 PM. WE ARE CLOSED SUNDAYS AND HOLIDAYS. (Less)

Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. Animal ID: 113-16Renner (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

******RESCUE ONLY******* Renner is a truly heartbreaking case of animal abuse that is found even in our small community. This poor boy was found in the Linden Ave. area one evening and due to the fact that our facility was closed, he was tied outside and left by himself. By a stroke of luck, one of our wardens was called out that night on a separate case and discovered Renner at 3:00am. As you can see in these photos, he has suffered a terrible trauma to his face. On his first day with us, his muzzle was so swollen and infected that he could not even eat the canned chicken our volunteers were attempting to hand feed him. After several vet ... (Read More)visits, Renner is on the mend although he will require additional care in the next few weeks to remove some damaged tissue inside his mouth. What caused all of this trauma to Renner? If you look closely, you can see a scar / line around his mouth where his muzzle had been taped or wired shut. This abuse of an animal is unacceptable. We ask our community to be vigilant if they witness this practice or any other abuse to animals in our community. If anyone has any additional information regarding Renner's specific case, please contact the Dog Warden's office at 740-453-0273. Renner is a large boy who is extremely strong but seems to have a sweet disposition. He has been trained to sit and lay down, but does not walk well on a leash. At this time, we do not know how he is with other dogs, cats, or children. If you love pits like we do and are experienced with handling such a large boy, please consider showing him what a loving home really means! (Less)

He's a beautiful 2 year old 70lb pitbull mix that just wants to run around and have a lap to lay on when he's done. He's house trained, knows sit, lay, high five and stay. He's very food driven and eager to please. He does great with other dogs and even cats. He loves to run and would make a great jogging partner for someone.

I came to Adopt a Pit rescue knowing only what shelter life was like. Now, I am crate trained, I am housebroken, and I am enjoying life on the couch! I like other dogs, and I am learning to trust people. I like nothing better than to snuggle on the couch! I Love to run and play in the yard. I am ready for my forever home! Pit Bull    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Needs to be Spayed

Sophie has never had a good, loving family... Never! Her original owner bred and abused her. Sophie craves that love and she deserves to experience it. Shes been passed from home to home due to inexperienced owners. Her only fault is her high energy... The home she is in now doesn't have time for her either. She is facing the awful drop off at the local pound. Which may be the end for Sophie... She's a beautiful, petite, 2 yr old pit. She's fun, loving, and high energy. A daily routine and exercise would calm her down. She would be a great running partner! Due to her high energy small children would not be best.

Heath/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)
