Rescue Me ID: 17-04-28-00377Bruce (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Bruce. I'm about 3.5 years old and I weigh about 65 lbs. I was adopted from the pound a little while ago, but unfortunately my dad is moving to a military base and isn't able to take me along so I had to be returned here to the shelter. When I was here the first time, I had really terrible skin and ear infections but I am doing much better. I do need to stay on grain free food, but otherwise I am doing great. I am a super nice boy. I am very social and friendly. I LOVE people. I also get along well with most other dogs and I love to play. I am housebroken and I wasn't kept in a cage at all, although if I am left alone ... (Read More)for long periods of time I do have accidents. I love going for car rides. I make a great co-pilot! I really hate being here at the pound so I am hoping to find a new family soon. If you're looking for a super nice pittie to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. IF the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, lack or space, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. The adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are: Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm Saturday: 9 am- 12 pm. The pound is CLOSED to the public on Sunday. There is nobody in the office on Saturday and Sunday, so therefore we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Pickles. I'm about 3 years old and I weigh about 60 lbs. My best friend Rusty and I were surrendered to the pound and we are now looking for new homes. I am a phenomenally sweet and wonderful dog. I am scared here at the pound but still couldn't be sweeter. I seem to be completely housebroken and I keep my kennel clean at night. I get along well with other dogs and I love humans of all sizes, but I DO NOT like cats so I need a home with no kitties and a family that won't let me run at large. Other than the whole not liking cats deal, you couldn't ask for a better girl. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your ... (Read More)family, please consider adopting me. Pit Bull Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Male Dogs Only, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy
Health: Spayed

My name is Tasha and I'm about 6 years old. I'm a friendly dog and love most people and kids. I wag my tail so hard I might knock over a toddler but it's unintentional. I need a new home since I need to be top dog. I'm best with submissive males. I'm not always fond of females or aggressive dogs. But I'm loyal and love to cuddle and sleep next to you. My owner rescued me as a starving stray and hates to give me up but me and my sister dog don't always get along. I'm hoping you can be my forever home. Love, Tasha

**Already Neutered** Hey you guys!!! Bronson here and I am what you might call a 'beef cake!' I'm a stocky boy, who is all muscle with a mushy inside! I LOVE TO PLAY and have some excellent skills on the soccer field. As much as I love toys and exercise, I love people more....and the more attention and affection I can get, the better! At the moment I sometimes don't realize just how big I am, but I'm smart so learning some basic manners and commands should be a breeze for me. I'm not gonna lie though....some days at the Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center can really be stressful with all of the barking and chaos everywhere, so we ... Adoption fee is $200. Her foster writes: Meredith is a sweet angel! She won our hearts over immediately after we picked her up from the shelter. She is a loving, energetic, playful girl who has had no problems getting along with humans and other dogs. She loves going on walks/runs, playing fetch, playing with other dogs, getting lots of treats, giving kisses, and snuggling up at night. She is great on a leash and does not pull on our walks. We came across ... (Read More)cats on our walks and she didn't show a ton of interest; however, there was no close interaction. Meredith knows sit and is working on lay down and stay. When we aren't home we make sure to crate her as she has gotten into stuff and isn't 100% housebroken yet but she is great when people are home. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of ... (Read More)the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have been assessed. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

Animal ID: 185DNiffler (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Hi, my name is Niffler or at least that is what the shelter is calling me. I'm housetrained and super SWEET. I'm about 1yr old, so I'm still a puppy. I'm a handsome boy, too! Please, consider opening your heart and home to me before my time runs out here. I have more pictures on the shelter website. Come Meet Me! Here is what the shelter has to say about me: Niffler was brought in as a stray and was waiting to see if his owners come in to claim him. He was never reclaimed by an owner so he is now up for adoption! We estimate his age to be about 1 year old. He seems to have a wonderful disposition and loves all the attention he can get. ... (Read More)Niffler is very vocal back in the kennels, begging to get out and play with a new friend. He seems to enjoy running in the outdoor play area and trying to play fetch. He would benefit from being neutered and possibly even some basic command training but overall he would make an excellent companion! If you would be interested in this goober, stop in and ask to meet him today! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-04-19-00619Bo (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Personality: Average Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hello, my name is Beauregard but my family and friends call me 'Bo'. My age is around 18 months. I have had all my shots including Proheart for heart-worms. I have also been neutered. I am a mixed breed of lab, as one can tell by my webbed feet and love of water and people. Some also say I have boxer and pit bull as well. Some of the things I love besides water and people are long walks and running off leash in the woods. I am really good while in the woods, I run ahead and all around but don't get too far ahead of my owners and if I do, I will wait for them to catch up with me or I will run back to them. I am good and have never run off ... (Read More)when in the woods. Once I kicked up several deer and chased them for a short distance and then came right back to my owners. I enjoy playing tug-a-war and chewing on my strong chew toys. I am still learning new commands. I can sit and shake on command. I love people so much that when I see them I tend to jump up on them. This is an area that I still need training in. I can be vocal by trying to talk to you but I am not a barker when outside playing. I am also house-broken and crate trained. I sleep in my crate at night and also when my owners are away. I eat twice a day; at 7:00 am and at 4:30 pm. When I settle down for the evening I like to lay with my lady owner with my head in her lap until it is time for bed. Once I am in bed (my crate) I am down for the whole night. I am a good dog. I do have a lot of energy, very playful, and I am still learning; however, my owners are seniors and don't have the energy that I have. For that reason, they love me so much and want the best for me, that they are putting me up for adoption in hopes of finding a good family and home with the same energy level as me.     Nora is a Pitsky, a Siberian Husky and Pitbull mix. She got hit by a car a few months ago and damaged both growth plates in her back legs. She has healed partially and gets around just fine on her own now. She walks and runs on all her legs but the back ones don't bend right, so she just looks a little funny when she does it. She needs to be lifted into the car and cannot walk up stairs. We have spent a lot on her medical bills and want to make sure she finds a loving home. She is a very sweet dog and is potty trained and comes when called. She does not get along well with cats though, and we have quite a few so we can't keep her sadly. She ... (Less)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Abused/Neglected

This is Rosie. She was scheduled to be euthanized so I took her in to get a good home. She has been spayed, chipped and immunized. She needs a home with a fenced yard. She is smart. She sits, shakes and lays down on command. She is potty trained and crate trained. Her only behavior problems is she will dig in the yard if she is bored, she jumps on you when she gets excited and she will take you for a walk with a leash. She needs a dog friend to play with. I think the behaviors she has is due to boredom and just wanting attention. She is around my young grandchildren and she is NOT aggressive. I have a 13 year old cat and my cat ...     I need to rehome this guy ASAP. This is Roscoe. My son rescued him from a shelter last year. He has been good with our large dogs and children and is quite the snuggler. Our immediate problem is that he hates cats (and small animals) and after a year of living here he has discovered that my parents have a cat liing downstairs (we have an 'in-law suite'). We have always just kept the door shut to keep the house areas separate, but now that he knows there is a cat he is obsessed and has already hurt the cat once. Please someone give him a good home with NO CATS or a rescue please help us out!!

Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the ... (Read More)kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Animal ID: BoboBobo (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Most of our dogs come from the shelter. Most of them are not able to go to the adoption floor for whatever reason and so they are quite literally on death row when we pull them. We don't know what their past is, we don't know their story except to be able to piece together details from whatever information the shelter has. It's sad. So many dogs are thrown away, dumped at the shelter with no information, often not even their name by owners who just didn't care. Imagine not caring enough about your dog to even leave their name with the shelter. Their name. The one thing that might make them feel some connection to someone. It's sad, and its ... (Read More)hard but we take comfort knowing that we will change their lives. Sometimes though, we get some information and sometimes that is even sadder. Meet Bobo. Bobo is about 6 years old and he is an american bulldog mix. He is a sweet older gentleman who is great with dogs, cats and kids. He is house trained and crate trained and rarely barks. So far, the information we have is similar to our other dogs: all things we have learned about him for ourselves. However, Bobo's story has another chapter. You see, we know his history and its heartbreaking. Bobo had a family. His family loved him and they fell on hard times. They lost their home and could not afford to keep him so they took him to a shelter. As far as we know he lived his entire 6 years with his family. One day they took him to the shelter. They walked out and left him and he was alone, confused and scared. He became depressed. Here is a sweet older dog who is used to the comfort of a home. He just wants to sleep on the couch and be near his person. That was no longer possible. Bobo's family loved him and they were heartbroken to leave him at the shelter but they had no other options. Bobo became sad and depressed at the shelter. He is not young and bouncy so he didn't attract the attention of an adopter. Now Bobo is here with Adopt a Pit Rescue. He has a nice soft bed, he has plenty of food, he has been fully vetted and he is doing ok. But Bobo is still sad. His foster family is nice but he needs closure. He needs to find his forever family so that he can live out his years holding down the couch and watching NCIS marathons. If you are looking for a great older gentleman who will bring joy to your life, please consider applying to adopt Bobo. You'll love him as much as we do. (Less)

He was good with our other dogs but that has also changed. He now starts fights with them. We feel we have no other choice but to find him the best home possible. He must go to a good indoor home.

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Yo! My name is Gotti and I found myself in a not so great place with a possibility I might never make it out. I will admit I was a little rough around the edges and would growl out of fear and that made me a not so good candidate for being adopted. Then this lady came in and told me she was from a rescue and had me a home. I was the happiest boy alive at that moment. I went into my foster home and my foster mom got me right into shape. It took her awhile to gain my trust and she let me move at my own pace. She gave me lots of treats and rewards for being such a good boy. She told me that I had to get ready for my new home. I like to run and ... (Read More)play, but I also like to cuddle a lot, too. I live with 10 other dogs and we all get along well. I even have a kid that sneaks me treats, but don't tell my foster Mom because she only gives me them if I do something good. I have not had the best start to life and I am still work in progress. If you have time, patience and some love to give, then I am your dog. I will promise to protect, love and keep you laughing. If you are interested in meeting me you can apply at Adoptapitrescue.org. Gotti is vaccinated , microchipped, neutered and heart worm tested. His adoption fee is $175 (Less)

Hi there! My name is Mistletoe, but you can call me Missy. I am a very friendly, outgoing, 10-month-old girl who LOVES to cuddle! The problem with being as outgoing as I am is that I am so excited to see you that I jump up to greet you. My foster parents are working on this with me, but it's a tough habit to break. Luckily I'm a small girl, weighing less than 40 pounds, so I won't hurt you and I redirect easy when you tell me off. I live in a foster home with 4 other dogs, 3 who are bigger than me. They love to play hard and run and I can keep up with them just fine. I previously lived in a home with a cat and kids and I got along with them ... (Read More)great too. But can I tell you a secret? I really, really want a home to call my own, with my own people to cuddle me at night, because I really love sleeping in bed with people. It's lonely in my crate. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from ... (Read More)the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. My daddy's only sister took me in but she has cats and she can't keep me because I like to chase them. I was the center of my Daddy's world. I was really spoiled. I can be in a crate but my Daddy did not crate me because I'm a good boy & I just nap on the couch all day. I am good with other dogs & I love people. Please find it in your heart to give me a forever home. To give Fresh a family again, please apply at www.adoptapitrescue.org/applications.html Fresh is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, microchipped and ... (Read More)heartworm tested. (Less)

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected

Hi! I'm Joker! I am about a year old & I weigh 50 pounds. I am a Weimaraner/Pit mix and I have beautiful amber eyes that will melt your heart. I have a sleek tan coat and I feel like velvet. A few months ago, my life wasn't the greatest and I lived in a home with people that didn't take care of me. The nice people at the shelter took me away and gave me to HALO. HALO helped me recover from happy tail and sensitive skin. My tail is shorter now because I got it amputated, but I think it makes me look so handsome. I LOVE to play at doggie daycare with all of my dog friends and I love even more to snuggle with my foster mom. She says I'm a ... (Read More)goof ball and my name fits my personality. I must confess that I do love to chase cats, I don't hurt them but I just want to play! I love everyone! My favorite things to do is to play with other dogs, play with my toys, take car ride, take walks, and to take naps in my recliner. I would love to be in a home with another dog but no cats . I would love to have a family who will love me as much as my foster mom does! I am heart worm negative, vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, housebroken, crate trained, and I know my basic commands. Not only is she unique looking but her moves and abilities are almost cat-like. This gorgeous girl is Sasha. She is about 8 months old and so full of love and life. She is good with other dogs after proper introductions; cats are still up for debate. Sasha is kennel trained and 90% house trained.     This sweet soul has not had an easy life. She lived outdoors most of her life and was then abandoned when her owners moved. We are partnering up with Ruff Transport to find this girl an amazing forever home. Ruff Transport is paying for her heartworm treatment (because sadly she is heartworm positive) and her spay. We will just be helping network and possibly foster her after her treatment is done. She is a smaller Pit Bull but weighs in at a surprising 49lbs. She is so sweet. Has been around a small child and a teenager with her original owners. She has walked by children on a leash and been nothing but tail wags. She has not been anything ... (Read More)but friendly to everyone. The vets office staff loved her. Freedom lets them do all the procedures without an issue. She does well with other dogs. Honestly, she is the poster child for Pitties. She walks very well on a leash and next to other dogs. She is housebroken and will not go potty on cement or in a crate. She is getting more confident now, but used to drink every drop out of water bowls and not want to be outside alone. She is a very calm dog. She just wants to sit by you and sleep. She has free access in the house now (supervised of course to be sure she is calm due to heart worm treatment). She does not get over excited when loose so it has worked great. Very sweet personality and very dog friendly. Greets everything she meets with a wagging tail. Great with all people young and old. Freedom was cat tested and did very well with the cats laying around, but did get excited when one darted away. Has never had an accident in the house. Freedom walks great on a leash, rides well in the car. She wants to be with people. She loves toys. Her foster says she has medium energy level. She's not big on being in a crate and because of this she can be a bit of an escape artist. her foster says she does well being left out so far. All of our animals are vaccinated, micro-chipped and spayed/neutered before being adopted. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the ... (Read More)image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. (Less)

(Less)

Animal ID: FosterBilly (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Billy is in a foster home. To meet him, email david_ager@yahoo.com. Billy is a wonderful blend of smart, affectionate, attentive and sweet. He loves everyone he meets - dogs and humans alike! - but would also be content just hanging out with you. Billy loves to play and learn! He is also housebroken and crate trained. 42 lbs. 1 year, 6 months About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing ... (Read More)the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. (Less)

My babies don't need me anymore so I am ready to be adopted! Apply for me at adoptapitrescue.org under the application tab. Trixie is vaccinated, microchipped, spayed and heart worm tested. Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adult Women Only
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Chipmunk is spunky, 40 pound Staffordshire Bull Terrier who is around 3 years old. She spent 7 months at Cleveland Animal Control with her siblings on court hold and once that was up, her foster parents found a picture of her and decided to take her in to help her get use to living in a home. It has been amazing to watch her blossom and see her personality grow! She's got a wonderful smile, she loves to run around in the background, play with toys and be around her people. She is nervous at first around strangers, but if you have treats, you'll be her new best friend! Men are a lot more scary than women for her, so it takes a little longer ... (Read More)for her to warm up. She is dog selective, and we think she could do well with another dog as long as it is calm and either her size or smaller. She thinks of herself as a lap dog and will jump up on your lap to cuddle as soon as she sees an opening! She does well around children, but will get really excited with them, so we suggest she go to home with older children. She is crate trained and does best in a crate when no one is home. Chipmunk loves her walks to Rita's for ice cream and down to metro parks to work on her obedience training. Consider getting to know Chipmunk and giving her a furever home! He is a high energy pup that loves to play fetch and wrestle with other big dogs. He weighs around 60 lbs, and knows several commands, such as sit, lay and shake (with both paws). He LOVES to cuddle under blankets and is a very loveable guy, that just needs a lot of attention.     Dash is a tough case. I have had him since he was 12 weeks old where he was abandoned at my vet clinic. I would call him unpredictable at best.
