Hi there! My name is Gumdrop. I'm about 5 years old and I weigh about 60 lbs. I was found as a stray in the Rogers area and I was picked up by the pound. I am a very sweet boy. I am past the annoying puppy stages, but still have lots of play and fun left in me. I am a very happy boy and I like to run around, but I don't really seem to want to play a whole lot. I am very clean and tidy in my kennel. I try my hardest to keep it clean and I rarely have accidents at night. If you're looking for a nice dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me.     My name is Rainy! I am a super sweet girl who loves to cuddle on the couch and watch movies. I was being kept by a man who couldn't afford me so he wasn't feeding me. My foster mom would love to keep me, but her apartment won't let her. I am very well behaved, I don't chew or get into the trash, even when it's left out!! I never take things that aren't handed right to me directly. I love to walk and run outside, but I also love to be lazy and sleep on the couch with you while you watch TV. I had puppies sometime in my past. My last owner wasn't very organized so I don't have any papers or vaccination records. I am wonderful with kids and ... (Read More)love to play tug with my rope. All I want is a steady home where I will get lots of loving and a comfy place to sleep. Please rescue me before my foster mom has to send me to a shelter!!! (Less)

Pit Bull    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed

This animal is available to licensed rescue groups only.  Please do not enquire unless with a licensed rescue group. Blue Pit Bull. Chyna wondered into my yard last week and she is the sweetest 'strange' dog I've ever met. She is so happy & loves giving kisses. The Humane Society explained she will be put down since her owners did not provide any information about her & they moved, leaving the dog to fend for herself! (The Humane Society guy said she got loose before he got her.) My doxie passed away just over a week ago and I was not going to allow her to be put down if I could help it. I found out that she was kept in a garage her whole life by a neighbor & she's probably pregnant. She looks to be between 2 & 3 years old. I have a 12 month old large ... (Read More)dog & adding another large dog to the mix is just something I can't do. We have a baby on the way & that's just too many mouths to feed & she's too big. She does not appear to be housebroken. I'll post a photo later this evening when I'm home. (Less)

Animal ID: EvieEvie (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Spayed

Meet Evie! Evie is a year and a half old. She came to us from a shelter because she was absolutely frozen in fear. She was not permitted on the adoption floor, so we were her only shot. She has since warmed up to her foster mom and showing great progress! She is a dog who forms a strong bond with her people. If you are looking for a loyal companion, she is it! Evie is very smart and will come and sit with ease. She loves to play fetch and even brings the toy and drops it at your feet. She loves to run, but will not stray far from the house or her people, no matter how much freedom she is given. Her happy place is relaxing next to you as ... (Read More)close as possible. She is an expert snuggler! Evie would do best in a home without cats - not because she wants to hurt them, but because she does not take the hint from her foster-cat-sibling and could get scratched! Evie is looking for a patient family that will help her feel safe. Could that be you? If you are interested in Evie, go to www.adoptapitrescue.org to fill out her application. Evie is vetted, spayed and microchipped. Adoption fee: $175 (Less)

Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have gone through the ASPCA SAFER Assessment. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

Roxy is a sweet-natured, gentle beauty. She wants to be everyone's friend. A great family dog. I rescued her and saved her from skin cancer. She is registered and all shots are current. Unfortunately, I am not sure of what happened in her past, but she is not good with some dogs. It pains me more than I can express to have to relocate my baby girl, but she attacked the neighbor's dog and I can't risk it happening again. She has never, nor would never show any aggression towards children. I have two and she is nurturing and loving to everyone. Please take care of my sweet baby girl. :(

I am super duper excited to be able to find a new, loving family now... A family that would never abuse me. I am the most wonderful, happy, sweetest dog you could ever imagine meeting! My tail wags nonstop and I am always happy to see you. I do really hate the kennel environment. I have been here at the pound since the beginning of March, so I'm really hoping to find a new family soon. I really don't like being all alone in my kennel. The girls here say ... (Read More)they couldn't ask for a sweeter, more well behaved dog than me when I am in the office with them. I am very affectionate and I love to play, but as long as I get to run around to play and I get my walks a couple of times a day, I'm an excellent boy. When I'm in the office, I mostly just sleep. I do appear to have been housebroken at one time or another, because as long as I get to potty before coming in to the office, I absolutely do not mess in the office. I get along well with almost all of the other dogs I meet. There have only been a couple that I haven't gotten along with, and they were always the ones who 'started something'. I can sometimes be a little too rough or overbearing when I play with the other dogs, but I'm not an aggressive dog by any means. I will likely need to be crated when my family leaves me alone, or at least until I get adjusted to my new life. If you're looking for a great dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. I appear to be in good health. I have been given my Parvo/ Distemper vaccine and I have been dewormed with panacur dewormer. PLEASE CONSIDER THIS DOG, AS WELL AS ALL THE OTHER DOGS AT OUR SHELTER AS URGENT. OUR KENNEL SPACE HERE AT THE POUND IS VERY LIMITED. THIS DOG COULD BE EUTHANIZED WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE ANY TIME AFTER APRIL 21, 2016. HERE AT THE COLUMBIANA COUNTY DOG POUND, WE TRY VERY HARD TO PLACE ALL OF OUR ADOPTABLE DOGS IN TO LOVING HOMES OR SEND THEM TO GREAT, APPROVED RESCUE GROUPS, HOWEVER, WE CAN ONLY KEEP OUR DOGS HERE AT THE POUND AS LONG AS SPACE ALLOWS. MY ADOPTION FEE IS $120 CASH, WHICH COVERS MY NEUTER SURGERY (WHICH MUST BE DONE PRIOR TO ME LEAVING THE SHELTER), MY PARVO/DISTEMPER VACCINE, RABIES VACCINE, DEWORMING, MICROCHIP AND MY CURRENT OHIO DOG LICENSE WHICH WILL BE HONORED THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF OHIO. THE POUND IS OPEN MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY FROM 8 AM- 4 PM AND SATURDAY FROM 9 AM- 12 PM. WE ARE CLOSED SUNDAYS AND HOLIDAYS. (Less)

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Aggressive

Tank is a purebred Red Nosed pit-bull. He has been my family's pet for 10 years now, and he has been a good pet. Tank is getting older and has lost his patients with children. And with being said, I have three grandchildren now that often come to my house. This is hard for us to do but we can not take the chance that he would snap at one of our grandbabies. As it stands today he has to be locked up when they are around and I don't think that is fair to him. I really hope to find someone who will take him in because if not we will have to seek other options. I do have photos and will provide them as you request. Tank only has three legs ... (Read More)because on February 8th 2013, tank was shot by one of my neighbors simply because he was walking on the road. The shot shattered his femur and the leg had to be removed. But trust me this did not slow him down at all. He is still a very strong and healthy dog. (Less)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Spayed

My name is Mae and I'm a 6 month, extra cuddly girl who came into the shelter lost and afraid. The world is a scary place when you're 25lbs and all alone. Other dogs picked on me and I couldn't find much to eat. Thankfully, once at the shelter, they comforted me and made me feel special. I would sit in their laps and cry that someone was giving me love. In my foster home I've come alive. I still love to sit in laps but now I feel happy and safe. There's another dog there I love to play with so I'd prefer a home with other dogs. I'm also good with cats... though they always seem to run away. I'm still young and learning commands... but I ...     Ziva is a beautiful all white boxer/terrier mix who is around 2 years of age. Super sweet and loves to play! She is an active girl and will need an active family. She is enrolled in basic obedience training at the PUPS Program. She will be taught deaf commands as this sweet girl cannot hear. She is very friendly and loves to play ball, take walks and stretch her legs with her trainer. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. (Less)

Animal ID: 14216Bob Cornfoot (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there, folks! My name is Bob Cornfoot. I'm around 2 years old and I weigh 85.6 lbs. I was found surrendered to the pound by my (new) owner because I didn't mix well with the other dogs they had. They had a really annoying puppy that just wouldn't leave me alone. I didn't want to bite the puppy, but he just wouldn't leave me be. They only had me for 2 days and wouldn't keep the puppy away from me. I was in a strange environment with strange dogs and strange people. I was not comfortable yet. I really tried to be a good boy! The people even said that I am potty trained and I was good with their kids. I am great with the other dogs that I ... (Read More)have been around here at the pound. I would be especially good with a dog that is calmer and quiet. I don't really like all of the commotion and crazy puppy shenanigans. If you currently have any other dogs, I need to meet them prior to adoption to make sure we get along well. I am a very big, very strong fellow. My family will need to be able to handle my strength. It is highly advised that my new family gets in touch with a trainer to help me with leash manners if they don't know how to work with me. I don't know any better and I will drag you all over the place. I am a really wonderful boy here at the pound. When it is nice outside, I love being left in the large fenced play area here. I love lounging around in the warm sunshine in the grass. Though I can be quite a vocal boy when I'm playing or waiting on a treat, I tend to be very quiet in the yard. I really enjoy it out there even when I'm left alone. I usually just go get a ball and roll around or lay around with it in my mouth. I really love the big, heavy duty rubber Kong ball here. It easily withstands my chewing and has become my favorite. Maybe my new family could get me some... Anyhow, that's kind of all I can tell you about myself. If you think I would be a good match for your family, please consider adopting me! I appear to be in good health. I have been given my Parvo/ Distemper vaccine and I have been dewormed with panacur dewormer. I also tested negative for heartworm on 4/13/16 My pull fee for any approved rescue group has been fully sponsored by my friends Teresa and Karen!! Big sloppy dog kisses to my friends! PLEASE CONSIDER THIS DOG, AS WELL AS ALL THE OTHER DOGS AT OUR SHELTER AS URGENT. OUR KENNEL SPACE HERE AT THE POUND IS VERY LIMITED. THIS DOG COULD BE EUTHANIZED WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE ANY TIME AFTER MARCH 30, 2016. (Less)

(Less)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Some of you might remember Belladona who was with us from August 2015 - February 2016; unfortunately she was returned to us recently. This poor girl cannot seem to find her place in this world and it truly breaks our hearts. Each time an animal is rejected, they feel it. Belladona is a sensitive soul and has struggled with learning to trust, and we do not want to set her up for failure again. She is a timid girl in her kennel but loves walks and loves to give kisses once she knows she is safe. She is strong but gentle at the same time. Belladona is selective of the animals that she is around, but as with all pets, it takes time and proper ... (Read More)handling to build a pack. Animal ID: 113-16Renner (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

******RESCUE ONLY******* Renner is a truly heartbreaking case of animal abuse that is found even in our small community. This poor boy was found in the Linden Ave. area one evening and due to the fact that our facility was closed, he was tied outside and left by himself. By a stroke of luck, one of our wardens was called out that night on a separate case and discovered Renner at 3:00am. As you can see in these photos, he has suffered a terrible trauma to his face. On his first day with us, his muzzle was so swollen and infected that he could not even eat the canned chicken our volunteers were attempting to hand feed him. After several vet ... (Read More)visits, Renner is on the mend although he will require additional care in the next few weeks to remove some damaged tissue inside his mouth. What caused all of this trauma to Renner? If you look closely, you can see a scar / line around his mouth where his muzzle had been taped or wired shut. This abuse of an animal is unacceptable. We ask our community to be vigilant if they witness this practice or any other abuse to animals in our community. If anyone has any additional information regarding Renner's specific case, please contact the Dog Warden's office at 740-453-0273. Renner is a large boy who is extremely strong but seems to have a sweet disposition. He has been trained to sit and lay down, but does not walk well on a leash. At this time, we do not know how he is with other dogs, cats, or children. If you love pits like we do and are experienced with handling such a large boy, please consider showing him what a loving home really means!     Jimmy is your typical happy-go-lucky, wiggly pit! He is a strong young man and is quite a puller. Animal ID: 108-16Heineken (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs

Heineken came to us in a rather unconventional way that involved the trading of beer in order to remove him from a bad situation. He was fostered briefly by one of our volunteers, and she wrote the following: 'Heineken is a young playful boy. He has one eye that is half blue and half brown and it can be disarming when you first see him. He still has plenty of puppy in him and loves to play tug-of-war and fetch. His favorite toy appears to be plain old sticks. He is friendly and playful towards other dogs, and is curious about cats. He loves to snuggle and tends to cling when you leave him. He is just a sweet, good-natured little man.' ... (Less)

Due to some unforseen circumstances Spudz needs to be rehomed because he is not compatible with young kids. He's a beautiful 2 year old 70lb pitbull mix that just wants to run around and have a lap to lay on when he's done. He's house trained, knows sit, lay, high five and stay. He's very food driven and eager to please. He does great with other dogs and even cats. He loves to run and would make a great jogging partner for someone.

Hi there. My name is Beefcake. I'm about 2 years old and I weigh about 72.9 lbs. I was found as a stray outside of Lisbon around the Glasgow area. I had been hanging around there for a few days. The people held on to me for a couple more days and tried to find my owner because I am such a very nice dog, but they had no luck with finding them. They live on a back road, so best guess is that I had been dumped for one reason or another as I didn't belong to any of the neighbors and nobody recognized me. I am a phenomenally sweet dog. I am a little standoffish with strangers, but once I know you, I am a totally wonderful boy. I get along ... (Read More)well with all of the other dogs I have been around since I have been here at the pound. I have only been with dogs around my own size. I need to meet any other dogs that may be in my new home just to help make sure we get along well. I know tricks and I have obviously been someone's house dog. If you're looking for a great dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. I appear to be in good health. I have been given my Parvo/ Distemper vaccine and I have been dewormed with panacur dewormer. **Beefcake is fully sponsored for any approved rescue group to pull. Please note that sponsorships are for approved rescue groups only and they do not apply to private adoptions.** PLEASE CONSIDER THIS DOG, AS WELL AS ALL THE OTHER DOGS AT OUR SHELTER AS URGENT. (Read More)questions or would like to meet the dog featured on this page, please call (216) 664-3476 to speak to an adoption representative at CITY DOGS Cleveland. (Less)

He's playful, but has a mellow personality. He walks very well on the leash. He likes to sleep next to you or sit on your lap. He is very loving.     Sophie has never had a good, loving family... Never! Her original owner bred and abused her. Sophie craves that love and she deserves to experience it. Shes been passed from home to home due to inexperienced owners. Her only fault is her high energy... The home she is in now doesn't have time for her either. She is facing the awful drop off at the local pound. Which may be the end for Sophie... She's a beautiful, petite, 2 yr old pit. She's fun, loving, and high energy. A daily routine and exercise would calm her down. She would be a great running partner! Due to her high energy small children would not be best.

Hi, I'm Charlie! I am about 3 years old & I spent a long time living tied to this truck until animal control came & saved me. I was really scared at the shelter because it was loud & there were a lot of men there. Big noises are scary and so are men. Now I'm a part of Adopt a Pit Rescue. I am still very shy and I like the dogs in my foster home a lot better than the people. My foster momma is kind of ok though. She is gives good ear scratches and has really yummy treats. She cried the first time I went over to the couch and asked for attention. ( it took me almost a week to do that). She always invites me to sit up there with her but I ... I will stand and cuddle with her with my eyes closed for as long as she will pet me. I LOVE to go for walks and my foster mommy says that I am great on a leash. I rarely bark and I am house & crate trained. My foster daddy is a big guy. He keeps trying to give me treats but I'm still kind of scared of him. He did take me for a walk yesterday and that was not too bad! I am all ready for my forever home! I need a family who will be patient with me and will take the time to bond with me. Heath/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-01-27-00374Ollie (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

OLLIE is lucky to be alive. This sweet, friendly white Pit mix female was locked in a shed and left to die. She was in there for nearly a week with no food or fresh water. Thankfully, a neighbor realized she was there and contacted the authorities. She is now safe in a foster home where she is receiving good nutrition and TLC. She weighed 43 pounds when first examined by the vet and her ribs were showing at that weight. We expect she will now gain weight. She was very scared when first rescued and just wanted to get down to the ground. It was as though she had lost her spirit and trust in people. She needs a family who will help her ... (Read More)get that back. She has let volunteers pet and love on her after she has seen that they are OK and that she is safe. She is very calm and sweet. The vet estimates she is about 2 years old. She tested negative for heartworm and has been vaccinated and vetted. She will also be spayed and microchipped prior to adoption. If you live in another state, don't let that stand in your way. We will work to transport Ollie if it means she will have a good forever home. If you are another rescue group, we will waive the adoption fee but you can make a donation toward vetting at your discretion. The adoption fee will help our 501(c)3 non-profit rescue to cover the cost of the veterinary care she has received and the microchip. (Less)

Meet Christy! This sweet girl is a 1-2 year old cattle dog/pittie mix. She is SUPER energetic and loves to play. We are looking for a home without small children as she tends to be a bull in a china shop at times. She does like the play with other dogs, however she is a rough and tumble type of dog who needs someone who can keep up with her. A fenced yard or running buddy would be great for Christy! Animal ID: MuffinMuffin (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed

It's not always easy being a dog. Especially when you're a stray. No one there to comfort you, feed you. Always running. Fearful of what, or whom, will hurt you next. Thankfully I found my way into a rescue. They promised me that I would be taken care of and loved. Meet Muffin, a tiny little girl (33lbs) around 3 yrs old. She is terrified of other dogs and acts defensive, so for now it would be best if she were kept separate. Is someone looking for the reward of watching this little girl flourish??? She needs time, patience, and most of all, a loving commitment to helping her along in her journey, free from fear and abandonment. To meet ... Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Neutered

Hi! My name is Lesnar. I'm a big boy, who's 2 years and 8 months old. In fact, my birthday is 4/16/2013. I was taken to the vet to be euthanized, due to some skin allergies that were going on. The vet didn't want to see that happened so they talked the owner into getting me to the nice people at Adopt a Pit. Since then they have been helping treat my skin and I feel SO much better. I'm very sweet, love everyone and I even sit and shake on command. If you'd like to love me forever, please apply at www.adoptapitrescue.org by filling out an application. (Less)

Hi! My name is Rocket! I came from a rural county with several injuries. I am around two years old and I am one of the sweetest boy you have ever met! I am great with other dogs, I love people and I am great in a crate. I am so grateful to have a soft safe place to sleep. The x-ray picture is mine.
