Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have gone through the ASPCA SAFER Assessment. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Heath/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

Animal ID: 0305Nitro (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Nitro. I'm around 1 year old and i weigh about 50 lbs. I was seized by the pound from my owner's home. They had me tied out in the middle of the yard on a 4' leash. It was 83 degrees, I had no access to shade and no water. I was panting hard and I probably would have ended up dying from a heat stroke if I wasn't taken. A card was placed on my owner's door but they never made contact so I am now looking for a new home. I am a VERY sweet and affectionate boy. I love to cuddle and give kisses and get loved on. I can be a little timid with new people at first but I warm up in no time. I get along wonderful with all of the ... (Read More)other dogs. I am very playful too. I do need to learn not to jump up when I get really excited but that is my only fault so with a little training I will be the best boy in no time!! If you're looking for a great dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. I appear to be in good health. I have been given my Parvo/ Distemper vaccine and I have been dewormed with panacur dewormer. PLEASE CONSIDER THIS DOG, AS WELL AS ALL THE OTHER DOGS AT OUR SHELTER AS URGENT%9D. OUR KENNEL SPACE HERE AT THE POUND IS VERY LIMITED. THIS DOG COULD BE EUTHANIZED WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE ANY TIME AFTER JULY 28, 2015. HERE AT THE COLUMBIANA COUNTY DOG POUND, WE TRY VERY HARD TO PLACE ALL OF OUR ADOPTABLE DOGS IN TO LOVING HOMES OR SEND THEM TO GREAT, APPROVED RESCUE GROUPS, HOWEVER, WE CAN ONLY KEEP OUR DOGS HERE AT THE POUND AS LONG AS SPACE ALLOWS. MY ADOPTION FEE IS $110 CASH, WHICH COVERS MY NEUTER SURGERY (WHICH MUST BE DONE PRIOR TO ME LEAVING THE SHELTER), MY PARVO/DISTEMPER VACCINE, RABIES VACCINE, DEWORMING AND MY CURRENT OHIO DOG LICENSE WHICH WILL BE HONORED THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF OHIO. THE POUND IS OPEN MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY FROM 8 AM- 4 PM AND SATURDAY FROM 9 AM- 12 PM. WE ARE CLOSED SUNDAYS AND HOLIDAYS. (Less)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Teddy is an energetic, happy, people-loving dog who I rescued as a puppy from a bad situation. His greatest joy is loving on someone and licking their hand. Unfortunately, we are moving and the new house is not conducive to keeping him as a pet. Since he's energetic, he definitely needs room to run around outside and would do poorly if kept inside all day. However, he's not an outside-only dog and should sleep inside somewhere at night. He is a mixed breed and I am uncertain of his exact heritage. He appears to have lab and maybe some pit in him, although people always think he looks like he has some boxer or rottweiler as well. The ... (Read More)perfect situation, if it exists, would be an invisible fence over a very large yard or on a farm, a family that's not gone all the time, and perhaps another larger-bodied dog for him to play with (Teddy weighs about 65 lbs and is 5 years old). If possible, I would also like to keep in touch over the next couple months after he's adopted in order to make sure he's had a good transition. Thank you! :) (Less)

Pit Bull    Age: Young Adult

Jacob was known as the ball park stray. He lived there for well over a year, eluding any capture including the dog warden. He was fed over the fence by a kind 62yr old man. I learned about Jacob and after a months time was able to trap him. Jacob was heartworm positive but has been treated and doing well. Jacob is 3yr old Chocolate lab/American bull terrier mix, weighing about 65lbs. Jacob is neutered, utd on shots, rabies and heartworm treated. Jacob does well with my other rescues, potty trained via doggy door and is average on a leash. We are still working on some things, but he is doing great for having no socialization for over a year. ...     Warner was a pup that was dumped at the old Time Warner building in Canton. I got a call from a customer that said They saw the car dump him just before sunrise but didn't get a license plate. Warner paced the building all day crying, until he finally laid down in the doorway. I was able to rescue him that night. Warner is 1-2 yrs old, 45lb male A.B.T/Lab mix. He's been fully vetted, heartworm negative and micro chipped. Warner LOVES his ball and used to be pretty protective over it. We are working on some things and he is doing much better. (Less)

Hi! My name is Manny! I think I'm a 2 year old Pittbull but I don't remember my parents or when I was born so I'm just guessing. I'm about 57 pounds, about 20 inches tall, neutered and up to date on my vaccinations. I'm a very calm, laid back guy. I love everyone I meet (dogs and people). I don't bark much unless someone comes to my foster family's home and my canine foster sister starts barking. I'm learning a lot from her. She has taught me how to play tug-of-war which is so much fun! If you don't know how to play I would love to show you! She and my foster mom are trying to teach me how to play another game called fetch but I ... (Read More)don't get it. Why would my foster mom throw something away and then want it back again? Sometimes she's really goofy. I did test positive for Heartworm and are currently being treated. (Less)

A word about Zippy from one of our volunteers: I take a lot of pictures at the APL. It has always been the same routine. Take a dog to the play yard, turn them loose and let them run around for a few minutes. They do zoomies everywhere, only to stop long enough to pee on anything and everything. That is what you would expect from a dog that has spent so much time in a cage. Yesterday was a different story from my last dog of the day named Zippy. Zippy would not leave my side. I sat on the bench and she crawled up there with me. She wanted nothing, and I mean nothing more than to be held and loved on. I walked around the yard and she ... (Read More)followed. I decided that we'd do it Zippy's way, and we just sat on the bench. I'm pretty sure if she had her way, we would still be sitting there. I'll be honest, I don't know much about Zippy. I just met her yesterday. I read her profile and it says she is 4 years old, loves kids, and gets along with other dogs. And it says she is sweet. They sure got that right! If you are looking for a dog that seems to be just about 'perfect', please check her out. I did manage to get one picture, and as you can see she is as cute as she is sweet. (Less)

I suppose I should tell you about my faults and quirks too. My foster mommy says my only quirk is that new people usually scare me. I'll growl and hide behind my foster mommy. She says it's because people have been mean to me in the past. She's showing me that most people are good. I think she's right but I still get scared sometimes. Once I know you're not going to hurt me I love to be petted and will play with you. Actually, once you're my friend, I'll let you do just about anything to me and I'll protect you too. You see, I make a great, loyal friend. I just need a little extra time to get to know people. My foster mommy thinks ... (Read More)this may go away with time and patience. I hope she's right. Now for the boring stuff; I'm about 70 pounds, neutered, up-to-date on all my vaccinations. I'm crate trained. I only chew my toys. ('| and I have a lot of toys!) I'm housebroken. My foster mommy thinks I'd be perfect for a family that doesn't have small children because I might accidentally run into a little one and knock him/her over. (Less)

Most of the dogs at Cleveland Animal Care and Control are available for adoption. However, sometimes a dog will have a medical issue (heartworm, demodex, broken limb, etc.) that would best be corrected under the oversight of a rescue organization. Dog that are not available for adoption need to become the responsibility of a rescue organization (after they agree) in order to leave CAC and avoid being at risk of euthanasia.     I have zues, a 5 yr old staffordshire terrier. He is a great dog and i have had him since he was 7 weeks old. Unfortunately i have to get rid of him due to moving and a new landlord. He is not fixed. He has been around kids his entire life and is great with even young kids. He does not like cats. Given a week or two, he get along with most dogs once they get used to each other. He is an amazing dog and friend and i hate to lose him but my loss is your gain. Please call or text.

Hello! My name is Julius! I'm about 6 years old and I weigh around 65 lbs. I was found as a stray and was picked up by the pound. I am a really, really nice dog! I just can't imagine why my owner isn't looking for me! I mean, seriously! Maybe they didn't want to take care of my minor skin allergies (which is already clearing up some since I have been here at the pound) or maybe they just didn't have time for me anymore or maybe they just didn't want me anymore for some reason. I am really great when I am in the office with the girls! I may be a boy dog, but I can party with the girls! I would be just fine with gossip and getting my nails ... (Read More)painted. Yep... (Less)

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Lindy! Doesn't she have the best ears?! And she has a spunky personality to match! This cutie pie walks pretty well on a leash and already knows 'sit'. In fact, she is a pro at sitting and will eagerly do so for a yummy treat! She would love to learn even more tricks to show off, too. Lindy has somewhat of a playful personality - she likes to chase soccer balls and frisbees, but she also likes to just stay close by her person. She is listed as a pit bull terrier (though has a bit of a furrier coat), one to two years old. This young lady is looking for a BFF to enjoy life with! Adoption Fee: $200, Application online at ... Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Vaccinations Current

Rescue/Foster Needed!! This little girl is looking for a rescue to pull her. She has some skin allergies going on, and will need to have them taken care of before being adopted. Danica is a little spunky girl, who, dispite her age walks well on a leash. She can be a little mouthy when playing, but this can be worked on with proper training. She loves ropies. She knows sit and has nice manners. Unfortunately she has tested positive for Demodex, and due to this is Rescue Only, so that she can get the treatment she needs before being adopted. The adoption fee is $61 cash (no checks or debit/credit cards) and includes: spay/neuter, vaccinations, heartworm test, microchip, and dog license. Most rescue organizations don't have open foster homes, and we don't have our own foster program, so what we try to do is connect folks who want to help a dog with one of our rescue partners to save the dog. Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hello, my name is Meatball. I am one handsome boy, who will keep you laughing. I have a really goofy personality and I like to be vocal. I love to be shown affection and I know how to sit like a good boy for a treat. I am an active boy who seems to have a hyper side so I will need a strong handler. I seem to do well with other dogs but I will definitely need to be the dominant dog in the pack. I have been cat tested and I did not seem to be bothered by the cats. If you are interested in knowing more about me, please visit the shelter. I would love to meet you.

AlmondJoy is a sweet dog that just LOVES to run. She would require an owner that would allow her that freedom. A fenced yard, or maybe a runner themselves. Almond Joy is a quick learner and listens well. She can walk well on a leash and knows basic commands. She was housebroken so would require a refresher on that. She loves learning new things and would make a great dog for an active person. It is recommended that she go to a home with older children. This beautiful girl has been overlooked for over a year!

Bullet was brought into the vet hospital where I work after being shot for euthanasia. He had a shattered front leg, a broken toe, and a large wound on his hip and was undernourished. Even with being in pain he had the kindest eyes and while working with him he was so sweet and cooperative that I iust couldn't bear to see him euthanized. I spoke with my office manager and we had the owner surrender him to me so that I could foster him and nurse him back to health. He has since had his leg amputated, fixed the wound, and been neutered. He needs the loving home that he deserves. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Dog that are not available for adoption need to become the responsibility of a rescue organization (after they agree) in order to leave CAC and avoid being at risk of euthanasia. Most rescue organizations don't have open foster homes, and we don't have our own foster program, so what we try to do is connect folks who want to help a dog with one of our rescue partners to save the dog.
