Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Woodrow is a very energetic, happy boy. He is still very puppylike and loves to play. He can be a bit whiney, but he is very silly when he whines. He knows sit, and appears to like other dogs. He will need work on his manners as he is still a puppy. 46 lbs. 10 months. Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through ... (Read More)Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have been assessed. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic (Less)

Well hello there! My name is Akyah and I'm what you might call a 'pocket pit' because I'm just so tiny, I could fit in your pocket! Animal ID: 225-16Rugby (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Hey! I'm Rugby and I'm a newbie at the Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center. I am currently pretty miserable because no one has cared for me for quite awhile. I am underweight, fighting skin issues, suffering from intestinal parasites, and my feet are swollen and sore. The great volunteers here are taking care of me and hopefully I'll be adoptable before too long! If there are any rescues out there who could help, I would be forever grateful!!! Rugby was the best boy at the vet and during his bath yesterday. He has a bad case of allergies and his toenails had been cut too short before coming to us at the MCDW&AC. He got a steroid ... (Read More)shot to help his allergies, got heart worm tested and is negative and now on prevention. He completed his spa day with a medicated bath, stiptic ointment on his toenails and his favorites: belly rubs, kisses and a cheeseburger! The vet thinks he's about 1 year old and said he would make a great pet for anyone willing to open their heart and home to him. Please come see our sweet Rugby, he'll steal your heart! Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Sasha. I'm about 8 months old and I weigh about 40 lbs. I was found as a stray in the Salineville area and I was picked up by the pound. I was extremely skinny when I was found, but I am putting on weight fast and getting to be more and more beautiful. I am a super sweet and friendly girl. I LOVE people! I just can't get enough of them! I love snuggling and giving lots of kisses. I do have a lot of energy, so I will need a family that is able to give me lots of play time and exercise. It's obvious that I haven't received much training, but I am very food motivated and eagar to please, so I should learn pretty ... (Read More)quick! I am get along well with the other dogs that I have been around since arriving here at the pound as well. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. IF the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, lack or space, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. The adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are: Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm Saturday: 9 am- 12 pm. The pound is CLOSED to the public on Sunday. There is nobody in the office on Saturday and Sunday, so therefore we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. Rescue Me ID: 16-07-16-00554King (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hello! My name is King! I'm approximately 3 year old and I weigh about 60 lbs. I was surrendered to the pound by my owners and I am now looking for a loving family. In my previous life, I lived as an outside dog, confined to life on a chain. As a result I have no real training to speak of and I was quite undersocialized when I arrived. I have been here for a short while now. I am doing wonderful and adjusting to a life off of the chain fabulously! I have been very friendly towards all of the people I have met! I'm just all kisses and tail wags! I am high energy and will require a patient family that has time to train me. I get along well ... (Read More)with most dogs and I'm a pretty playful boy. Sometimes I can go in a little too overbearing and that can scare the other dogs sometimes, but I haven't been aggressive towards other dogs. I have a big scar on my head from some old, unknown injury. It doesn't seem to bother me at all and I'm not headshy. There is really no telling what it is from. I also have dry skin and some mossing hair on my hind end, which is suspected to be from the fleas I had when I arrived here. Although I was never a house dog, I am a very clean boy! I do not have accidents in my kennel and I wait until I get outside to go potty. If you're looking for a great dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. I'm heartbroken that I have to get rid of this dog, he's been a part of my family for about 6 years. However, we must get rid of him because our insurance will be raised because of his breed.     This is my second post for Moose. I had him neutered and was in training with a behaviorist, but he needs additional work and I cannot keep him. Moose can be somewhat aggressive when he is excited (wanting to chase a cat or wild animal) or if he has something he shouldn't and you are trying to get it from him. He hasn't bitten, but has given warning snaps. He gets a look in his eye, and you know to diffuse the situation. I can go into more detail with someone who is serious about giving him a forever home. The trainer he was working with is in Columbia Station Ohio, and I can give more info about that as well. Moose is great with other dogs ... (Read More)once properly introduced. His trainer said he's a a social butterfly. Not good with cats. He doesn't hurt them, just wants to chase them. He's great on a leash and knows basic commands. He needs someone who will be dedicated to working with him. He's a snuggle bug and very loyal. It breaks my heart to have to rehome him, but with his agression issues I can't have him with my 8 year old son. Serious inquiries only. (Less)

I have a 1.5 year old male dog that needs to go to a good home. He is a pit bull/basset hound/??? Mix. He has been neutered and had all of his first shots (parvo, rabies, etc). We have had him since he was a baby and all of the homes for him have fallen through for some reason. He is very smart and knows a lot of tricks. He is a great listener. We just moved out of state and are living in an apartment with three dogs and a baby - and I'm about to pull my hair out! He had a home lined up here but it hasn't worked out. He really needs a fenced in yard to play in. He needs a lot of attention, or anther dog to play with. He is a little skittish ... (Read More)of little kids at first because the kids in our old neighborhood were mean to him (we of course stopped it when we saw it). But we have a 1.5 year old that he is great with! He is so gentle with her. I am so sad to let him go but he desperately needs a yard. He deserves so much more than we can give him right now. I will only give him to a home that has a fenced in yard and can provide excellent vet references. He is not to be tied up outside to be used as 'security'. I want him to go to a home where he can continue being a part of the family. Please, if you can help, or if you know anyone that can, let me know. Thank you so much! (Less)

Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the ... (Read More)majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be.

Zeke is average energy for a 10 month old,has gone through puppy training at PetSmart. He is a cuddler, and sits, shakes,Lays down, gives high five, been house broken since 12 weeks old. Does have a protective issue with his crate. Nipped my wife, trainer came over and evaluated Zeke and determined he is not vicious. His issues can be corrected with training. However the trust has been broken and we feel he should go to another loving home. With additional training he could be an awesome dog !! That was the only issue even close to being mean. He's approximately 50lbs. and very loving.

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Petunia is a real doll! She is very interested in her surroundings. She is social with other dogs. Very sweet and cuddly, and loves to snuggle. She likes toys and loves to be with people. Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, ... (Read More)and Sunday 12-2pm. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have gone through the ASPCA SAFER Assessment.

My name is Henna. I lived outside for a long time and wound up pregnant. I found my way to this frightening place with a lot of barking dogs and had my puppies there. It was pretty scary, but someone nice came and took my puppies and me somewhere safe where I could raise them. My foster mom said that all 7 got adopted and now it's MY turn! I am playfully, energetic, goofy, curious, affectionate and submissive. I give the best kisses and cuddles. I love to play with my foster brother and sisters. I'm also learning commands and tricks. I can sit, lay down and know the word no. I'm making progress on stay, come here, off and back up. I'm also getting used to this thing called a leash and walking calmly, but I think it's very fun! I am crate trained. I love people and kids, but I'm not so good with cats. I would love to be able to have a home to call mine and play all the time! I need someone who is willing to work with me to get better at listening and walking on leashes. Eventually, I think I would make a great running or hiking partner! It would be awesome if my new home had another dog friend to play with!     Hi! My name is Cynder! Unfortunately my owners could not keep me and brought me to the Pound in February...just after Valentines Day. Being at the Pound, in such a small kennel, day in and day out, is a real challenge for me and really stresses me out sometimes. Because I'm so stressed, most visitors just walk past me even though I try so hard to get their attention. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have gone through the ASPCA SAFER Assessment.

My daughter's mom has had this dog since it was born, but she had to bring him to me due to her moving. Lately he has snapped at my other daughter, niece, and myself. Not sure why. I have an american bully female that is here that he gets along with great. I just cannot chance him actually biting any of us. I do not want to put him down. He is very loveable and protective. I honestly do not know where his aggression is coming from. He does not have food aggression and is house trained, but seems to have to go out a lot.

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hello! My name is Dougie! I'm about 5 years old and I weigh about 50 lbs. I was found as a stray in the Alliance area. I was thin and I had horrible skin and ear infections. I was missing about 50% of the hair from all over my body. After a couple of months, I have regrown nearly all of my hair and I am looking wonderful! I am a very friendly, happy-go-lucky kind of fellow. I enjoy spending time with people. I am very happy and fun. I LOVE car rides!. I like going for walks, getting belly rubs and snuggling up next to you. I love playing in water. This includes but isn't limited to: pools, creeks and ponds. I like and get along well with ... (Read More)most of the other dogs I have met since coming into the pound. I LOVE playing fetch too! I don't like to give you my toy (I would rather hold on to it and play tug-o-war) but if you have 2 toys, I will drop the one I have to go get the other one. I seem to like and tolerate children just fine as well. One of the volunteers that comes here to walk us dogs, brings some kids with her and I am great with them. They walk me, play with me and give me lots of belly rubs. Like most dogs, I can only be expected to take so much, so if you have children, please make sure they respect me. I appear to be housetrained also. One of the volunteers likes to take me home sometimes just to give me some time out of the pound and she can't say enough good things about me! She said I am quiet and very well behaved at home. I have been here for months and nobody can understand why. I am such a good boy. If you're looking for a great dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. **UPDATE** Dougie has received a full sponsorship from Carol to go to any approved rescue group! Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer,%A0 be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical conditon or injury, temperment or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, lack or space, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. The adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are: Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm Saturday: 9 am- 12 pm. The pound is CLOSED to the public on Sunday.%A0 There is nobody in the office on Saturday and Sunday, so therefore we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have gone through the ASPCA SAFER Assessment. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

Harley is a very lovable boy. We are relocating at the beginning of June and cannot take him with us. He does takes time to warm up to new people, at first he can come across very aggressive to both new people and new pets. When we have company I usually have to put him in a seperate room to keep him from barking at new folks. When you have Harley on his own, he is very lovable. Constantly giving kisses, loves to cuddle, will sleep with you, doesn't beg, knows a few commands, and overall is a fantastic dog. He just needs time to adjust to new people and places.     Hi, we are Winslow and Ben. Due to the sudden death of our Daddy we need to find a new home, ASAP!! We are both pure bred Pit Bulls. Our daddy got us when we were babies and we have always been indoor dogs. So we need a home inside please. I'm Winslow, the tan and white dog. I was born on April 18, 2005. I just turned 11. I am a little timid at first when I meet you, but I promise I will warm up to you. Then I will want to kiss you every second I get a chance, I love kisses. I will also love to lay on your lap and have you hug and pet me. I am just misunderstood. I like to bark at people walking by and I think I scare them by barking too ... (Read More)loud. I'm just having fun!! I really do love people!! And I love my brother. I'm Ben, Winslow's brother. I'm the white dog. I was born on May 3, 2006. I turned 10 a few days ago. I didn't get to celebrate with my daddy this year and I miss him very much. I love love people. I want you to pet me as much as possible. I would love to lay on the floor and have you pet my belly. I will also want a kiss every now and then. Not like my brother, he will kiss you all day. I do have sore hips so I need to be careful. I take glucosamine for my hips. I just need a lot of love, especially now!! We love to run and play in the yard together. We have always had a fenced in yard. We have really not been put on a leash or chain. Not that we couldn't try. We have never been around small children and it probably wouldn't be a good idea to start now. PLEASE********We need a new home indoors. We MUST stay together. We have been through enough and need each other more than ever. We just need to be loved for the life we have left. We do not want to go to the pound so please come and get us. (Less)

Animal ID: 114-16Chloe (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Chloe suffers from masticatory muscle myositis which has caused the muscles in her skull to deteriorate. When she first arrived at the Muskingum County Dog Pound, she was unable to open her mouth enough to eat or drink. After being diagnosed and treated by a local veterinarian, she was immediately placed in foster care where she is THRIVING!!! Chloe is a true miracle and we are so excited to see that she has put on weight and looks absolutely beautiful. Her foster family reports that she is potty-trained, gets along well with dogs, tolerates cats, knows how to sit and shake, and does well on and off leash. They think that she is an amazing ... (Read More)dog! Although she is able to open her mouth more than before, she is not able to open it completely. We are unsure if she will regain this ability or not. It is likely that Chloe will require ongoing medical treatment for her disease, so we do suggest that anyone interested in a adopting her speak with a vet beforehand. Due to Chloe's condition, it may be difficult / dangerous to sedate her so currently she is unspayed. Please help us find a wonderful home or rescue for Chloe!     Chloe is a beautiful, loving dog. She came from a rescue. She was our son's dog, but when he moved, he was not allowed to have her in his new apartment. We took Chloe in temporarily until we could find her a home. We currently have two dogs and one cat. Chloe absolutely does not like cats, and she and our cat have to be separated at all times. Chloe is loving and thinks that she is a lapdog. She loves to snuggle and play. Chloe needs a loving home with no cats and lots of love and attention. She loves to play and be outdoors on nice days.

He has been around kids but I am unsure on how he would act around babies. Due to personal situations I feel like I can not give tucker the time and attention that he needs. He deserves to have a happy home instead of being alone for most of the day now. I hate to give him up but I am trying to do what is best for him. He is updated on all vaccinations. Also, I would prefer him to have a fenced in yard because of his energy and the fact that he is a runner he loves to run!

He is walked several times a day and I run with him 3x a week. He needs to be in more of a quiet home with active people. Kids make him nervous ... and he is hand shy. Housebroken. If you take him and it's not a fit, he is welcome to come back within an agreed amount of time.

Animal ID: EvieEvie (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Spayed

Meet Evie! Evie is a year and a half old. She came to us from a shelter because she was absolutely frozen in fear. She was not permitted on the adoption floor, so we were her only shot. She has since warmed up to her foster mom and showing great progress! She is a dog who forms a strong bond with her people. If you are looking for a loyal companion, she is it! Evie is very smart and will come and sit with ease. She loves to play fetch and even brings the toy and drops it at your feet. She loves to run, but will not stray far from the house or her people, no matter how much freedom she is given. Her happy place is relaxing next to you as ... (Read More)close as possible. She is an expert snuggler! Evie would do best in a home without cats - not because she wants to hurt them, but because she does not take the hint from her foster-cat-sibling and could get scratched! Evie is looking for a patient family that will help her feel safe. Could that be you? If you are interested in Evie, go to www.adoptapitrescue.org to fill out her application. Evie is vetted, spayed and microchipped. Adoption fee: $175 (Less)

Tank is a purebred Red Nosed pit-bull. He has been my family's pet for 10 years now, and he has been a good pet. Tank is getting older and has lost his patients with children. And with being said, I have three grandchildren now that often come to my house. This is hard for us to do but we can not take the chance that he would snap at one of our grandbabies. As it stands today he has to be locked up when they are around and I don't think that is fair to him. I really hope to find someone who will take him in because if not we will have to seek other options. I do have photos and will provide them as you request. Tank only has three legs ... (Read More)because on February 8th 2013, tank was shot by one of my neighbors simply because he was walking on the road. The shot shattered his femur and the leg had to be removed. But trust me this did not slow him down at all. He is still a very strong and healthy dog. (Less)

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

I unknowingly moved to a city that doesn't allow pit bull mixes (Warrensville Heights) We believe he is a pit/shar pei/lab mix. Spoke with a citycouncilman yesterday;I want to rehome him before they take him. He's an Emotional Support Dog, so I could engage in a fierce, lengthy battle with the city concerning federal ADA policies against breed specific laws with regard to support animals, but I think that wouldn't be good for either of us, so here I am. Kobe is loyal, playful and fun to be around. He's hilarious with squeaky toys, loves chest rubs and sleeps on his back like a person. He barks conversationally and does the double head cock ... (Read More)(first to one side, then to the other), when he's puzzled. Loves to chew on real bones, beef hooves and Kong Extreme toys. He is 18 months old, 47 lbs and past the shoe-chewing phase. He got along well with my black lab who died of leukemia last year and with the pitty next door. He needs to be walked daily, run outside and play 'footbottle'. He's a special dog so I am looking for a home where he'll be spoiled and loved to death like he is by us. (Less)
