Pit Bull Rescue Information: The American Pit Bull Terrier is a powerful dog with an undeserved reputation for inherent viciousness. A Pit Bull that receives attention, firm training, and thorough socialization makes a wonderful family guardian that is trustworthy with children. Pit Bulls need committed, experienced owners that exude leadership. Pit Bulls excel at high level obedience with proper training. Pit Bulls have been bred for dog fights, and unfortunately a dog that is abused, neglected, or whose instinctive aggression is encouraged, can become hostile and dangerous. Pit Bulls can adapt to apartment life with enough exercise.

Pit Bull Trivia: Some people believe that Pit Bulls are identical to what Bulldogs were in the past. Unfortunately, Pit Bulls are often used for illegal dog fighting. A disproportionate number of Pit Bulls are put down in major American cities each year.

Rescue Me ID: 17-02-23-00202Aspen (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hello. My name is Aspen. I'm almost 8 months old and I weigh about 45 lbs. I was rescued by the pound from a neglectful situation and I am now looking for a new home. I am an absolute lover!I am wonderful with people. I'm very happy and super friendly. I get along great with other dogs and I love to play. I do pretty good inside but I will need someone to work with me with my housebreaking. If you're looking for a sweet puppy to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL ... (Read More)dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. IF the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, lack or space, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. The adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are: Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm Saturday: 9 am- 12 pm. The pound is CLOSED to the public on Sunday. There is nobody in the office on Saturday and Sunday, so therefore we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable.     SPECIAL NEEDS: DEAF Petey is an adorable, little polar bear. He is very silly and while he loves to play and run, he would much rather be with you. If you have questions or would like to meet the dog featured on this page, please call (216) 664-3476 to speak to an adoption representative at CITY DOGS Cleveland. Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through ... (Read More)Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have been assessed. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

(Less)

(Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-02-15-00190Ziri (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Ziri. I'm about 8 months old and I weigh about 60 lbs. My friend Apollo and I were found running in East Liverpool and we were picked up by the pound. I am a young, energetic girl. I will need a new family with the time and patience to train me as well as keeping me exercised. I am a very sweet and loving girl! I absolutely LOVE people!! I have tons of kisses to give and I love to snuggle. I get along well with most other dogs and I really like to play. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are ... (Read More)unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. Animal ID: 021-17Dynasty (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats

My name is Dynasty and I want to be the queen of your world! At nine years old, some might consider me an old maid, but I have a zest for life that would match any dog half my age! So how did I end up in a place like the Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center at this stage in my life? All I can say is sometimes people make bad choices and their dogs pay a steep price for those mistakes too. What I am looking for in an adoptive family is stability...at my age, I don't want to have to worry about being passed around...I just want a permanent home where I can spend my 'golden' years. I am loving, playful, smart, and do fairly well on a ... (Read More)leash, but if you have other doggy family members, you will need to introduce us first to see if we are a good fit. I can be a little uneasy around new dogs and I DO NOT LIKE CATS!!! Ugh...cats......     Leia is a playful 1 year old female. She is leash trained and off leash uses an e collar. She has had substantial training and obeys all commands.     Arianna here and I'm what you might call and older girl who is still very young at heart! I love to play and strech my legs any chance I get! If you come to meet me at the Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center, you might notice that when I bark, I have a raspy voice....that's because my voice box was damaged from wearing a collar that was too tight for too long. I'm healing up nicely though, but no more collars for me for now! Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday ... (Read More)12-2pm. (Less)

(Less)

(Read More)CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. (Less)

Hendricks is a black pit bull mix. He found us last January 2016. He had wandered into our garage on what would be one of the coldest days of the year and was attempting to eat a bird suet cake. He was cold, malnourished, unaltered, not micro-chipped, and scared. We took him to our family vet who told us that all in all he was in good health, but he couldn't be sure of his age due to the condition of his teeth - he said four, give or take two years. He treated him for fleas, and sent him home with us. We provided him with a warm home, food, shots, neutered and micro-chipped him at our expense. Hendricks is a wonderful dog. He is good ... (Read More)with both cats and dogs, and loves people. He can be a bit shy, and doesn't really 'socialize' with his pack, but is very friendly nonetheless. We would suggest a quiet home, as we believe that his previous owners may have yelled at him a lot. When there is a lot of noise in our home he simply disappears and hides. (Less)

Hello! I am in need of some help. I have been trying to find a rescue for my 2 yr old neutered pit bull. Most of the rescues in Lorain county are full or do not accept his breed. I had some financial issues and had to move home with family, my parents have expressed that they love him but we are crowded in one house and I need to find him a home ASAP. I don't have the heart to just sell him to someone out of fear of him being used for the wrong reasons. Any help would be appreciated! Jennifer

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats

The name's Mickey, and I'm a real man's man...nothing mouse-like about me....well, other than my ears! My story is the same as so many other dogs here at the Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center - my people weren't able to take care of me anymore so I landed here as a result. It's a real bummer, but I'm managing the best I can. If you can't tell, I'm a stocky fella, a real athletic stud type of guy. I'm a bit of a puller on a leash and I'm not too sure about all of this kennel business, but this stuff is all so new to me. If I were asked to describe my personality I would say I'm more of an 'all business' type and less of the ... (Read More)'snuggly' variety. Does that mean that I don't like a good scratch behind these ears? Absolutely not...but my previous people just weren't big on lovin' on me so I've got to learn what all of this affection stuff is all about! I'm not too sure about some other dogs...especially the ones who like to get all barky and what not, so if you are interested in me and have another pet, I'd really like to meet them first before I decide if they are cool or not. Anyway, that's me...Mickey...come check me out when you get a chance! Available for adoption at: Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center 1500 Newark Rd., Zanesville, Ohio 43701 740-453-0273 Please call ahead if you plan to visit. Open M-F 11-5 and Saturday 11-1. Adoption fee is $105 which includes spay/neuter, combo and rabies shots, Bordetella vaccine, heartworm test and dog tags. (Although some of the dogs come to the pound spayed or neutered, most do not. If you adopt a dog that has not yet been spayed/neutered, we will set up an appointment for the dog to be spayed/neutered before it can leave the facility.) (Less)

Chipmunk is spunky, 40 pound Staffordshire Bull Terrier who is around 3 years old. She spent 7 months at Cleveland Animal Control with her siblings on court hold and once that was up, her foster parents found a picture of her and decided to take her in to help her get use to living in a home. It has been amazing to watch her blossom and see her personality grow! She's got a wonderful smile, she loves to run around in the background, play with toys and be around her people. She is nervous at first around strangers, but if you have treats, you'll be her new best friend! Men are a lot more scary than women for her, so it takes a little longer ... (Read More)for her to warm up. She is dog selective, and we think she could do well with another dog as long as it is calm and either her size or smaller. She thinks of herself as a lap dog and will jump up on your lap to cuddle as soon as she sees an opening! She does well around children, but will get really excited with them, so we suggest she go to home with older children. She is crate trained and does best in a crate when no one is home. Chipmunk loves her walks to Rita's for ice cream and down to metro parks to work on her obedience training. Consider getting to know Chipmunk and giving her a furever home!     Lego is a charming, handsome, but misunderstood guy who found his way to Uno's Happy Endings Rescue after his previous owner surrendered him. He is a 1.5 year old purebred American Pit Bull Terrier without papers. He has some reactivity issues with strangers, mainly when inside his home or vehicle. Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City ... (Read More)Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. (Less)

Pit Bull    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults

Health: Needs to be Neutered, Abused/Neglected

Spyke is a 'can you watch him until we move into another place' adoption we have had now for about a year in half. We believe his first owner's way of 'training' has effected Spyke's development of behavior. He is VERY timid, but only seeks and wants attention. He is a very loving and affectionate boy. BUT he has separation anxieties. Screams, cries and destroys anything he can get his teeth on. He has eating issues. He plows through his food in 30 seconds flat. Slow feeder bowls, nothing worked. Adding fresh vegetables on top of his food seems to work the best. He has potty issues. He has no problems coming in from outside and using the ... (Read More)bathroom in the house. Even if caged he has no problems defecating where he lays. Again, I believe this is all stemmed from the original owner's 'training'. He gets along great with our other dogs, and is the shadow of our great dane. Our great dane is almost like a security blanket for Spyke. We have 2 cats that live with him without any problems. He has no medical problems that we are aware of. Since he wasn't supposed to be our dog, we have never taken him to the vet. We know of no vet records, but we are not sure. The only 'medical' condition we know of, is his nervous stomach. When he goes into one of his separation anxieties, he has major diarrhea. He has been known to destroy an entire futon sofa, iphone, remote controls and shoes. We run a small business and do not have the time to just clean up after him, let alone the time he needs some one to spend with him. He would make a great companion dog for some one who is in need. Or a loving family who might have a stay at home parent. (Less)

Animal ID: 56Cratchett (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Cratchett is a very nice boy, who likes toys and loves to play. He pulls on a leash and will need additional work on that. He knows sit, but can used more training. 52 lbs. 1 year, 6 months. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to ... (Read More)increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. (Less)

We got 2 puppies from a friend that were abandoned by their owner. We have had them since they were not even 6 weeks old. We have her sister and a pig and two cats. The issue we are finding is that she is getting to be aggressive about food. She gets snippy with the other dog and pig. I have a small child that is 2 and she's snipped at him. She is really a loving girl and I want to find her a loving home. So I would recommend a family with older children and no other dogs. She won't hurt cats. She's been around them her whole life. Please help!!!
