If you have questions or would like to meet the dog featured on this page, please call (216) 664-3476 to speak to an adoption representative at CITY DOGS Cleveland. Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through ... (Read More)Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have been assessed. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

(Less)

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Prim. I'm about 10 months old and I weigh about 30 lbs. My friends and I were seized from an extremely neglectful owner. I was very thin, though not yet quite as skinny as two of the other puppies who were skeletal. After about a week of some good food, I am just about where I should be weight wise. I am a super duper sweet, loving an affectionnate little girl. I love love love people of all sizes. I love to cuddle and give kisses. I get along great with other dogs too and I love to play. I have always lived inside but I will likely need some work with housebreaking. If you're looking for a sweet and loving dog to add ... (Read More)to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. IF the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, lack or space, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. The adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are: Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm Saturday: 9 am- 12 pm. The pound is CLOSED to the public on Sunday. There is nobody in the office on Saturday and Sunday, so therefore we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. Can't adopt a dog? If you have questions or would like to meet the dog featured on this page, please call (216) 664-3476 to speak to an adoption representative at CITY DOGS Cleveland. Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. (Less)

Frankie is a blue eyed white and tan pit mix. I believe he has some Husky in him. His is about 60lbs. Somewhat of a goof and very talkative when relaxed, he loves to be around people but not large groups. Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed

My husband and I are currently trying to re-home our pit bull and pit bull mix. Because of a job change and move we are in the process of selling our house, but will not be able to get another mortgage for two years. We have been searching for a rental situation that would allow us to keep both dogs, but because of size and breed we have been unable to. Needless to say, it is very disappointing. Styx also has some lab in her. She does not look particularly pit like though her mom was a full pit. We got her at about a year old and she was not well socialized prior to that so she is VERY shy with strangers. We have worked on it a ton (she was ... (Read More)so shy at first that she would not even come to our children- now she loves them). She is seriously the sweetest dog ever. She is super mellow. Pretty much never barks, jumps, etc. but is very affectionate (licking, putting her head in your lap, laying in the floor by the kids). She does reasonably well on leash, but because she is timid around strangers, she is quick to pull if someone walks by or approaches. She will let us know if she needs to go out, but she is NOT trustworthy left out when you leave the house because she loves to chew. Currently she is very attached to our other dog, River. She will follow commands because River follows commands. I am pretty confident she knows sit, come, no, and go lay down, but anything else she does is probably just because she is following River. I am not sure if it would be better or worse if she were re-homed with River. Sometimes I think she might become more confident if she were not always relying on River. She was spayed and had a small hernia repaired just a few days ago and seems to be healing well. As noted above, she is great with other animals and kids despite her shyness. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-06-14-00208Hoss (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hoss is a big, spoiled, lap dog. We adopted him about 3 months ago after he passed a 'cat test'. As soon as we got home, we found that he was definitely not good with our indoor or outdoor cats. We love him dearly, so we decided to try to make it work. We gated off the house and did our best to keep him separated, hoping things would improve, but they never have. I work from home, and with the cat situation, Hoss has mainly stayed in a room with me 24/7. This is now causing issues as he has separation anxiety when I need to leave. He has also started getting 'protective' of me when we are out in strange areas with extra people around. ... (Read More) He has growled and barked at people when he felt I was threatened. The vet described him as having an 'exceptional temperament', and an experienced K9 officer who spent about 2 hours with him described him as 'about the least aggressive dog I've ever seen', but due to his outbursts, some in my family are afraid of him. It breaks my heart, but it appears we aren't the right family for him. He is housebroken, and will sit, lay down, etc on command. He enters his crate on command, and sleeps there with no issues. Until the separation anxiety started, we had never heard him make a sound (now he whimpers for a few minutes when I first leave him, but then stops.) Other than the occasional bark when he wants to play, he doesn't bark much at all. Doesn't bark at cars, etc. He seemed to be fine with other dogs when he was at the shelter, and he didn't seem aggressive toward other dogs in obedience class (curious, but didn't bark or growl at them), but he hasn't really been around other dogs since then. My kids are grown, so I don't have any experience with him 1 on 1 with smaller kids. He loves to snuggle, sit on your lap, etc. Yesterday I used him for a pillow and took a nap on him. He's a very sweet dog, but I can't keep him. I will be very picky about his new home, as he is too good a dog to end up in a bad situation. (Less)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Velvet is a shy girl who takes a bit of time to warm up to new situations. She is very sweet and mild mannered. She appears to have had a few litters in her life. 78 lbs. 5 years old. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase ... (Read More)adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. (Less)

Animal ID: SalvadorSalvador (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Are you looking to add a full grown dog who still has some puppy-like qualities to your family? Meet Salvador. Salvador was picked up on the side of the road late one night by a few of our dedicated (read: CRAZY) fosters. 'Look, a puppy!' one exclaimed, and jumped out of the car stopped at a light in a sketchy neighborhood, dashed across the road to approach a strange dog. Luckily for her, Salvador was super friendly and waggled his butt so hard all the way to her that he couldn't walk straight. He followed her to the car, hopped right in and went to sleep on the ride home. Skinny and dirty, he was grateful for the care he was shown and ... (Read More)bonded immediately with his caretaker. Now safe, he has blossomed into a very loving, friendly boy. Salvador is very affectionate, attentive, and sensitive, and responds well to correction. His foster is working with him to correct a few minor issues, such as jumping when excited and not wanting to go right into his crate, as well as leash manners, and he is making fantastic progress. He is house and crate trained, very playful, and he especially loves to chase a ball around. Salvador is a big boy, weighing in around 70lbs. Look at his face. How can you not fall in love with him? Salvador is about a year old. He is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and heartworm tested. His adoption fee is $175. Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello. My name is Princess. I'm about 3 years old and I weigh about 65 lbs. I was seized by the pound in November 2016. My owner was also charged earlier in 2016 for another case involving me. The pound has recently been granted custody of us all and we can now begin our well deserved search for loving families to join. We have all lived neglectful, abusive lives. but we can now move on with our lives. I am just about the sweetest, most loving dog you could hope to meet. I can be a little shy at first with new people but once I know you, I am just a cuddly, kissy, wiggly sweetheart of a dog. My daughter Elsa and I share a kennel here at ... (Read More)the pound. I get along well with most other dogs, but should meet any new dogs I would be living with prior to adoption make sure we get along. If you're interested in possibly adopting me, please call or stop in to the pound so see if we would be a good match for each other. **SAME DAY ADOPTIONS WILL NOT APPLY TO PRINCESS OR ANY OF THE DOGS FROM THIS CASE. BACKGROUND CHECKS AND/OR HOME VISITS FOR THE ADOPTER MAY NEED DONE PRIOR TO ADOPTION. DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS CASE WITH THESE DOGS, WE WILL VERY CAREFULLY SCREEN POTENTIAL ADOPTERS TO FIND THE BEST SUITED HOME FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL DOG.** Our adoption fee is $120.00. We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hello there! My name is Chaos. I'm about 2 years old and I weigh about 70 lbs. I have been kind of a 'frequent flyer' here at the pound for just about my whole life. My most recent stay here at the pound was through absolutely no fault of my own. My owners were incarcerated%BD'%BD%BD and there was nobody to take care of me so the pound had to come get me. I have been held here past my hold time and I have been vetted and I'm looking for a new family. I am a really happy, sweet and loving dog. I do still need some obedience training but for the most part I'm a great dog. I am a pretty strong boy so I will need a new owner that will be ... (Read More)able to handle me. I have a history of escaping my previous owners but that was mostly lack of training and lack of exercise. I get along well with most other dogs, especially female dogs. I can be a little more choosy about my male dog friends, though, so I should meet any new dog friends prior to adoption to help ensure it will work out. I LOVE humans of all sizes. I have been a house dog my whole life and I seem to be housebroken. If you're looking for a great dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Kodiak is an adorable boy. He is very sweet and a little sensitive. He likes toys and loves to be with people. He knows sit, listens well, and takes treats nicely. 56 lbs. 2 years, 6 months. The CITY DOGS mission is to ... (Read More)increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. (Less)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Charlie is a lovable, active, fun-loving 2 year old boxer/pitt mix. He has had a lot of homes in his life and is looking for a permanent one, very soon. He loves to snuggle, chase flies, run at full speed in enclosed areas, play with footballs, and just hang out with you. Charlie has demonstrated aggression towards certain other dogs who have been dominant to him - while he is fine with certain other dogs, I think what he needs most of all is a one-dog home with people who are as active as him. He is an amazing, happy, and loving pup who needs a forever home.

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Stella! Stella is about 2.5 years old and weighs in around 75 lbs. This beautiful girl was snatched from the cruel hands of some would-be breeders by a good Samaritan. Stella is what we like to call a Grade A Mutt. She might be Boxer, Pit, Sharpei or any number of mixes. When Stella was saved, she was in heat and was wearing a very heavy, thick, silver studded leather collar. Though her breeding days are behind her now, the stain on her neck from the leather collar, remains.     Hello! My name is Mazi and I'm here with Critter Crusaders because I need to roll solo!!! I'm a 6 year old mixed breed and have been with one family since I was a puppy. Recently, I just don't have tolerance for other dogs...I don't know, they just irritated me and make me grouchy. I really want and really need to find another family where I'm the only dog. I'll really miss my other family but I just don't want to be around the other dogs. I know all the basic commands and I'm not too bad on a leash. Another thing is that I'm a runner so I'll need a secure fenced in yard to play in. I'm actually pretty lazy and am happy just lounging with ... (Read More)my peeps. I'm good with kids and I'm a good watch dog. If you think you can give me the home and the love that I need, please respond to this post. I'm very healthy. I just had bloodwork done and it came back all normal. I'm spayed and up to date on vaccines. I'm ready to meet you! A veterinary reference and a home visit is required. There is a $150.00 adoption fee. Upon adoption, an adoption agreement must be read and signed. Thank you!!!! (Less)

Payton is nearly perfect! She walks well on a leash (pulls a little but is super smart and already learning), she already learned sit and down, and she loves people and other dogs! She is a great family dog! She is being treated for a mild skin infection (from fleas) but her skin already looks better. Payton was surrendered TWICE to the shelter because her families lost their homes. In 1 year and 4 months of life she lost her home twice so she has a little anxiety understandably. She is fully vetted and her adoption fee is $200. Payton is very curious about kitties so would be best with no cats in her forever home!

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Sam Gotti. I'm about 8 months old and I weigh about 40 lbs. I was found as a stray in a park. I was there all day. It is guessed that I had been dumped out there. I was found by a very nice lady that took me home for the night then brought me to the pound the next morning. I have a fractured jaw that is currently healing. I will need to eat canned dog food/ soft foods for approximately 4 more weeks. Since everything is lined up good in my jaw, I won't need surgery for it. I do have a large lump under my jaw from calcification that may not go away. When I seen the vet, she gave me antibiotics too just in case I have an ... (Read More)infection brooding in my mouth or jaw. I am a super sweet dog. I love people and I get along well with most other dogs. If a dog is aggressive or dominant towards me I don't like that, but if they're friendly towards me, I am also nice and friendly towards them. I really hope to find a new home soon. Please consider adopting me. We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Are you looking for a unique dog that will not only keep you on your toes but also keep you laughing? Well then Sasha is for you! Not only is she unique looking but her moves and abilities are almost cat-like. She is a young girl, probably no more than two years old, and so full of love and life. She is good with other dogs after proper introductions; cats are still up for debate. Sasha is kennel trained and 90% house trained. Her previous owner let her roam the neighborhood then abandoned her when he thought she was pregnant. Luckily a neighbor took pity on her and got her off the streets. Unfortunately the neighbor couldn't keep and ... (Read More)surrendered her to a shelter. When the shelter believed her to be pregnant, she was scheduled to be euthanized. Fate stepped in and Paw Patrol saved her beautiful soul. Needless to say, she was not pregnant. Sasha is heartworm negative, spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and dewormed. Sasha is very active and agile so needs a fenced yard with lots of toys and room to run and play. She hasn't been tested with kids but her foster family thinks she will be ok with older kids that will play with her. She has learned so many manners since coming to us. Sasha sits and stays on command, waits to eat until told to do so, and goes to her kennel when told it is time for bed or her foster family needs to go out. As you can see, she loves to cuddle with her foster brother or chill out in the recliner. Also, after a long day of puppy playing, Sasha loves to cuddle with her favorite humans. Of all the things she can do, her cuddles are the best thing of all. Sasha's adoption fee is $175.All of our animals are vaccinated, micro-chipped and spayed/neutered before being adopted. Rescue Me ID: 17-05-07-00189Bella (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This is Bella, a Jack Russell/Pitbull mix I received from a friend. I got her with the intention of eventually being in a home with a yard, but those plans fell through, and this puppy with lots and lots of energy has no place to run and play and it's not fair if I keep her. She has the sweetest heart, she loves snuggles, and isn't a morning dog, so she will gladly tuck back under the covers if it's too early (it's really cute). She is very well house trained, I don't even put her in her cage throughout the day, she is extremely smart and knows lots of commands, and is able to learn them quickly. A few of Bella's downfalls is that she is ... (Read More)very anxious, she was attacked by a dog a few months ago, so she doesn't meet with new dogs very well, but if you can get her introduced to one properly, she LOVES to play. She does fine with all humans, the only reason why I put adults only is because since she loves to play to play so much, she plays kind of rough with younger kids. Other than that she is a loving puppy with lots of energy and lots of love, she just needs a nice fenced in yard for her to play in! If you have any questions feel free to contact me!     SPECIAL NEEDS: HEARTWORM POSITIVE. Victor is a very nice boy, who is very friendly once he warms up. He is on the quiet, mellow side, and takes a few minutes to warm up to new situations. Victor has a beautiful, shiny, black coat. He knows sit and can catch treats in the air. Unfortunately he has tested positive for heartworm and will require a rescue to pull him to get his treatment. (Less)

Some dogs touch us more than others. Queenie certainly touched our hearts. Left at a county shelter, she was scared and depressed. All it took was one kiss to a cheek for a promise to be formed. A promise to do whatever it took to find her forever home. Queenie is a young adult lab mix who is enjoys hanging out on the couch with her people, kids included. It is likely that Queenie was never exposed to other dogs as she doesn't know quite how to react. We are working on that and social play time is coming along nicely.give Queenie the chance she deserves by filling out and application for her at adoptapitrescue.org under the application tab. ... Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from ... (Read More)10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. (Less)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Abused/Neglected

This is Rosie. She was scheduled to be euthanized so I took her in to get a good home. She has been spayed, chipped and immunized. She needs a home with a fenced yard. She is smart. She sits, shakes and lays down on command. She is potty trained and crate trained. Her only behavior problems is she will dig in the yard if she is bored, she jumps on you when she gets excited and she will take you for a walk with a leash. She needs a dog friend to play with. I think the behaviors she has is due to boredom and just wanting attention. She is around my young grandchildren and she is NOT aggressive. I have a 13 year old cat and my cat ... She needs a home with younger people who can work with her on the leash and jumping. But most importantly she needs another dog to play with because she is very social. If this fits you, please call me. She is waiting for a good home. (Less)
