Pit Bull Mix

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Abused/Neglected

We found this sweet girl while hiking a few months ago. She was malnourished and wandering. We brought her home with the intent to provide her a forever home. Animal ID: 046-17Elsa (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Hey there, I'm Elsa and I'm a beautiful, blocky babe who is looking for a loving family to call my own! I have really been struggling with some itchy skin here at the Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center, but please don't hold that against me! I might look like a tough girl but I'm really a softy at heart who loves affection and cuddles from my favorite humans. Being a bigger girl, it is taking me a little bit to learn how to walk all nice and delicately on a leash, but I am getting better especially when I get to wear a harness. I would love a chance to show you my soft side so come visit me before someone else snatches me up! For ... (Read More)more information on me, please contact my Case Manager, JL Cooper, at jlcoopercm@gmail.com. Available for adoption at: Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center 1500 Newark Rd., Zanesville, Ohio 43701 740-453-0273 Please call ahead if you plan to visit. Open M-F 11-5 and Saturday 11-1. Adoption fee is $105 which includes spay/neuter, combo and rabies shots, Bordetella vaccine, heartworm test and dog tags. (Although some of the dogs come to the pound spayed or neutered, most do not. Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello. My name is Jett. I'm about 1 year old and I weigh about 50 lbs. My friend Maddox and I were found as strays in the Lisbon area. Were were very skinny and very hungry when we were first found. A nice lady took us in for about 3 weeks and fed us and helped us out but because she had 3 dogs of her own, she just couldn't keep us so she brought us here so we can find new homes. I am a little timid at first when I meet new people but once I warm up to you and get to know you I'm a total sweetheart. I get along well with other dogs. The lady who'd found us did say we are good in the house and as long as we are let out often enough we ... (Read More)are doing pretty well with potty training. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. IF the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, lack or space, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. The adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are: Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm Saturday: 9 am- 12 pm. The pound is CLOSED to the public on Sunday. There is nobody in the office on Saturday and Sunday, so therefore we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable.     My neice called me crying that she was going to have to take her dog to the pound and they said they would put her down. I agreed to take her iin for a couple months until they got on their feet. When they brought the dog to us she was malnourished. She is now putting on weight and ribs and spine no longer showing. When I called them to tell them this was not working out, they had to come get her, I was told to take her to the pound. So now I have had this dog for a little over two weeks. I have tried to integrate her into our home, but I just don't have the time to keep up with all the attn she requires. She is very loving and quite an ... I just want her to go to a good home, where someone is willing to put the time into her. We did worm her but as far as I know she has not had her shots. My neices told me she was full blooded pit bull, but I do not think that is the case, her legs are very long and she does not have that stocky build of a pit bull. (Less)

Yo! My name is Gotti and I found myself in a not so great place with a possibility I might never make it out. I will admit I was a little rough around the edges and would growl out of fear and that made me a not so good candidate for being adopted. Then this lady came in and told me she was from a rescue and had me a home. I was the happiest boy alive at that moment. I went into my foster home and my foster mom got me right into shape. It took her awhile to gain my trust and she let me move at my own pace. She gave me lots of treats and rewards for being such a good boy. She told me that I had to get ready for my new home. I like to run and ... (Read More)play, but I also like to cuddle a lot, too. I live with 10 other dogs and we all get along well. I even have a kid that sneaks me treats, but don't tell my foster Mom because she only gives me them if I do something good. I have not had the best start to life and I am still work in progress. If you have time, patience and some love to give, then I am your dog. I will promise to protect, love and keep you laughing. If you are interested in meeting me you can apply at Adoptapitrescue.org.     Hi there! My name is Mistletoe, but you can call me Missy. I am a very friendly, outgoing, 10-month-old girl who LOVES to cuddle! The problem with being as outgoing as I am is that I am so excited to see you that I jump up to greet you. My foster parents are working on this with me, but it's a tough habit to break. Luckily I'm a small girl, weighing less than 40 pounds, so I won't hurt you and I redirect easy when you tell me off. I live in a foster home with 4 other dogs, 3 who are bigger than me. They love to play hard and run and I can keep up with them just fine. I previously lived in a home with a cat and kids and I got along with them ... (Read More)great too. But can I tell you a secret? I really, really want a home to call my own, with my own people to cuddle me at night, because I really love sleeping in bed with people. It's lonely in my crate. To adopt this darling girl, fill out an application at www.adoptapitrescue.org/applications.html Mistletoe is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped and heartworm tested. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from ... (Read More)the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have been assessed. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

(Less)

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected

Hi! I'm Joker! I am about a year old & I weigh 50 pounds. I am a Weimaraner/Pit mix and I have beautiful amber eyes that will melt your heart. I have a sleek tan coat and I feel like velvet. A few months ago, my life wasn't the greatest and I lived in a home with people that didn't take care of me. The nice people at the shelter took me away and gave me to HALO. HALO helped me recover from happy tail and sensitive skin. My tail is shorter now because I got it amputated, but I think it makes me look so handsome. I LOVE to play at doggie daycare with all of my dog friends and I love even more to snuggle with my foster mom. She says I'm a ... (Read More)goof ball and my name fits my personality. I must confess that I do love to chase cats, I don't hurt them but I just want to play! I love everyone! My favorite things to do is to play with other dogs, play with my toys, take car ride, take walks, and to take naps in my recliner. I would love to be in a home with another dog but no cats . I would love to have a family who will love me as much as my foster mom does! I am heart worm negative, vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, housebroken, crate trained, and I know my basic commands. Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant

This sweet soul has not had an easy life. She lived outdoors most of her life and was then abandoned when her owners moved. We are partnering up with Ruff Transport to find this girl an amazing forever home. Ruff Transport is paying for her heartworm treatment (because sadly she is heartworm positive) and her spay. We will just be helping network and possibly foster her after her treatment is done. She is a smaller Pit Bull but weighs in at a surprising 49lbs. She is so sweet. Has been around a small child and a teenager with her original owners. She has walked by children on a leash and been nothing but tail wags. She has not been anything ... (Read More)but friendly to everyone. The vets office staff loved her. Freedom lets them do all the procedures without an issue. She does well with other dogs. Honestly, she is the poster child for Pitties. She walks very well on a leash and next to other dogs. She is housebroken and will not go potty on cement or in a crate. She is getting more confident now, but used to drink every drop out of water bowls and not want to be outside alone. She is a very calm dog. She just wants to sit by you and sleep. She has free access in the house now (supervised of course to be sure she is calm due to heart worm treatment). She does not get over excited when loose so it has worked great. Very sweet personality and very dog friendly. Greets everything she meets with a wagging tail. Great with all people young and old. Freedom was cat tested and did very well with the cats laying around, but did get excited when one darted away. Has never had an accident in the house. Freedom walks great on a leash, rides well in the car. She wants to be with people. She loves toys. Her foster says she has medium energy level. She's not big on being in a crate and because of this she can be a bit of an escape artist. her foster says she does well being left out so far. All of our animals are vaccinated, micro-chipped and spayed/neutered before being adopted. Animal ID: DixonDixon (male)

Pit Bull    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi, my name is Dixon! I am a 2-year-old pitbull, I weigh about 50lbs and I'm quite the snuggler. My foster parents named me after Daryl Dixon because I came out of the shelter looking sort of grungy and like a bad boy. No worries though, I promise I'm good! A strange habit of mine is I love to hop like a kangaroo! I just can't help it; I get so excited. I do excellent in a crate and have never had a potty accident in the house. I know how to sit to get treats but my foster parents are still working on teaching me more, as well as teaching me proper manners. I'd really like a home with other dogs who are easy to get along with so we can all ... (Read More)play well together and wear each other out. Is there anyone out there willing to give me a new life and a forever home? I hope that someone is you! Dixon is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, neutered, and heart worm tested.     Sheba is a total doll! She loves her people, and is friendly, well mannered and sweet when people come to visit. She will show off all of her tricks for you, and has been working on her leash walking skills. She loves to take walks, and would love a fenced yard where she can run and play. She likes to play fetch and tug games, and will play on her own with toys too. Her house manners are so good, she doesn't need to be crated or confined when left alone for the day. Sheba can be rude with other dogs, and she would prefer living with a family where she can get all the attention for herself. She is very dog selective and requires slow ... If you come to meet me at the Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center, you might notice that when I bark, I have a raspy voice....that's because my voice box was damaged from wearing a collar that was too tight for too long. I'm healing up nicely though, but no more collars for me for now! Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by ... (Read More)changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. (Read More)image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. (Less)

So how did I end up in a place like the Muskingum County Dog Warden & Adoption Center at this stage in my life? All I can say is sometimes people make bad choices and their dogs pay a steep price for those mistakes too. What I am looking for in an adoptive family is stability...at my age, I don't want to have to worry about being passed around...I just want a permanent home where I can spend my 'golden' years. I am loving, playful, smart, and do fairly ... (Read More)well on a leash, but if you have other doggy family members, you will need to introduce us first to see if we are a good fit. I can be a little uneasy around new dogs and I DO NOT LIKE CATS!!! Ugh...cats...... Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday ... (Read More)12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. (Less)

Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. (Less)

Hi my name is Sassy! I am about a year old & in my former life I was tied out with no food, water or shelter. Then I was in a shelter for awhile & now I am in a foster home. Because of where I came from I appreciate the finer things in life. I am good in my crate but I LOVE to sleep on the couch. If I can get away with it I would spend my whole day there. I love to play with the other dogs in my foster home & I have no interest in cats. I am shy when I first meet someone but if you are willing to spoil me with treats I warm up pretty fast. I weigh about 50 lbs & my goal in life is to be a lap dog!! PS: I am very quiet! Apply to adopt me ... (Read More)today at adoptapitrescue.org under the application tab.     Hendricks is a black pit bull mix. He found us last January 2016. He had wandered into our garage on what would be one of the coldest days of the year and was attempting to eat a bird suet cake. He was cold, malnourished, unaltered, not micro-chipped, and scared. We took him to our family vet who told us that all in all he was in good health, but he couldn't be sure of his age due to the condition of his teeth - he said four, give or take two years. He treated him for fleas, and sent him home with us. We provided him with a warm home, food, shots, neutered and micro-chipped him at our expense. Hendricks is a wonderful dog. He is good ... We would suggest a quiet home, as we believe that his previous owners may have yelled at him a lot. When there is a lot of noise in our home he simply disappears and hides. (Less)

Hello! I am in need of some help. I have been trying to find a rescue for my 2 yr old neutered pit bull. Most of the rescues in Lorain county are full or do not accept his breed. I had some financial issues and had to move home with family, my parents have expressed that they love him but we are crowded in one house and I need to find him a home ASAP. I don't have the heart to just sell him to someone out of fear of him being used for the wrong reasons. Any help would be appreciated! Jennifer

Chipmunk is spunky, 40 pound Staffordshire Bull Terrier who is around 3 years old. She spent 7 months at Cleveland Animal Control with her siblings on court hold and once that was up, her foster parents found a picture of her and decided to take her in to help her get use to living in a home. It has been amazing to watch her blossom and see her personality grow! She's got a wonderful smile, she loves to run around in the background, play with toys and be around her people. She is nervous at first around strangers, but if you have treats, you'll be her new best friend! Men are a lot more scary than women for her, so it takes a little longer ... (Read More)for her to warm up. She is dog selective, and we think she could do well with another dog as long as it is calm and either her size or smaller. She thinks of herself as a lap dog and will jump up on your lap to cuddle as soon as she sees an opening! She does well around children, but will get really excited with them, so we suggest she go to home with older children. She is crate trained and does best in a crate when no one is home. Chipmunk loves her walks to Rita's for ice cream and down to metro parks to work on her obedience training. Consider getting to know Chipmunk and giving her a furever home! Adoption fee is $200 (Less)
