Pit Bull Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Miley is a spayed female, 7 yr old, small, 32 lb. pit mix. She is in perfect health and current on all vaccinations (last vaccines given on 2/12/15). She is friendly, obedient, and loves to cuddle & give kisses! She loves all people and kids, but not all dogs. She plays great with my husband's mother's two female dachshunds, but does not like dominant dogs. She was found by my husband over six years ago, as a stray pup and has been a wonderful only pet for him and his two young daughters for the past 6.5 yrs. Since we've gotten married, Miley and my dominant female dog do not get along together, so we are looking to find a new home for ... (Read More)Miley. She is such a great dog and a sweetheart; she deserves all the love and attention of an only dog. If you are interested in adopting Miley and able to provide a responsible loving home, please text me at 901-604-9404. Please note: She will come with a wire crate (if you need it), a leash & collar, some of her food, and her vet records. (Less)

Health: Vaccinations Current

Bully is available to a good home for a 'rehoming fee' of $50 to insure a good home. Bully- is a two year old pit bull terrier. He is house trained, neutered and UTD on everything and looking for his forever home. He is great with cats and is great with my small and large dogs, he has grown up with them also. He loves to play, he also tries to play with my older Australian Cattle Dog which jumps on him being grumpy and is very submissive to her and stops immediately. He was my mothers dog, but she was very ill and now is taking care of my grandmother and does not have the time he needs. He is great on a leash and knows how to sit, he also ... The have been introduced with me in between them, but I am not willing to take the chance of letting him off of a leash near her. I do not have the right situation for him and that is what he deserves. I've been picky on who gets him, trying to find the perfect match. I would love for him to go to an active family with children that can play and tire him out. He is very gentle and loves to snuggle. He also snores. He does not require a fenced in yard. He has never tried to run off. He would be great in an apartment or in a home or neighborhood. Located in Milford, va near tappahanock. (Less)

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

LJ doesn't ask for much, because he's not used to getting a lot. LJ has spent too much of his life living outside, tied to cable, starving, or running the streets to think that people are capable of giving him much more than that. With the life of abuse and neglect he's lived, a simple bowl of food and a pat on the head make LJ think he's a prince. We know he deserves more than that though, and we know you do too. LJ is a cute little bully mix with the sweetest "angel ears" we've ever seen. He's a petite little mister, probably only about 45 pounds, and just full of love! He's never met a stranger, he completely ignores cats, and ... (Read More)we believe he could share a home with other dogs as well.     I have a brother and sister 5 month old shepherd-put bull mix that I need to find a good home for immediately! Due to an ailing husband I was forced to move from my former residence and move with friends in order to pay his medical bills. Unfortunately it is very difficult both giving them the love and attention they need while trying to find other means of housing for myself and my daughter as well as my husband should he be able to return home. I love these puppies and it breaks my heart to have to give them up but they deserve more than I am able to give them right now. I would truly like to keep them together as they are very tight ...     We have two female pit-bulls that were raised together from puppies. They are now fighting to the point of nearly killing each other. Juli is not usually the one who starts it (the other does with a low growl) but she is instantly on attack and is relentless. Separately, they are loving, sweet girls. We ended up with two puppies by accident and did not know that females would fight each other - even having grown up together. One or both must go to a new home.

She needs a proper introduction to dogs outside of her home as we believe she is concerned about protecting her humans from strangers. Missy is fabulous with kids, and is one of the sweetest dogs that we've come across in a long time!

Tyler and Taylor are twin brothers that are looking for their forever home. We would like them to be together if possible because they are best friends. They do well with other dogs and are good with children. They need some basic obedience training but their new foster mom is working with them. These boys are full of energy. They would do best with an active family and or a fenced in back yard. These beautiful boys have been waiting for their forever home for so long, won't you adopt them?     Beautiful brindle girl Somaya wants to be your new best friend! Somaya was adopted from us as an itty bitty puppy after we pulled her from a shelter several years ago. Now, nearly 3 years later, she's back with us and waiting for a REAL forever home this time. Somaya was picked up by animal control running loose in her neighborhood and taken to our local shelter. Shelter staff was able to get in contact with her previous owner, but unfortunately, they decided not to return for her. Somaya has been living in a home as the only animal in the house her entire life, so she needs her new owner to be patient and introduce her to other pets ... (Read More)slowly. Somaya has lots of wonderful, playful energy, and would make someone a terrific hiking, running, or biking buddy. Because she's so playful and happy to meet everyone, we recommend a home with older children so no little ones end up getting bumped, tail-thumped, or knocked over by once of Somaya's famously powerful lick baths. Can you give Somaya the home of her dreams? Apply today at www.virginiapawsforpits.org. Approximately 3 years old, 56 pounds (3/2015) Virginia Paws for Pits is a registered 501c3 charity. Pit Bull Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Kwan is one of most sweet and affectionate dogs you'll ever meet. She will hop right into your lap for snuggles, kiss your face off, and be your shadow. Kwan wants nothing more than a loving, forever family to call her own. When we rescued her from a shelter, she was very pregnant. Because shelters do not have the resources for proper labor/delivery and neonatal care of puppies, Kwan's future looked bleak. We scooped her up and gave her a safe place to have her puppies. Soon after, all of her puppies were adopted, but poor Mama Kwan was left waiting. She's still waiting! Approximately 3-5 years old (3/2015) Virginia Paws for Pits is a ...     This gentle soul doesn't ask for much. A smile, a pet, anything you can offer is just fine with him. Kurtis is a peaceful soul who can mix with kids, carts, and dogs with ease. When I picked him up off the transport van, I couldn't believe my eyes. We was caked in years of dirt, and I don't think he had ever known a warm bath or a night indoors. I bathed him twice and wrapped him up in a blanket. Afterwards, he cuddled up on the floor of my car and just looked at me like he was saying thank you.     Surely there is someone out there who wants to adopt Jasper! Jasper is a big, sweet, goofy boy. He's got nothing but love to give. Even though Jasper was the victim of an abusive training regime for much of his life, I know he's got to be wondering why his family of 3 years left him in a cement kennel, and why they aren't coming back for him. My heart breaks for Jasper. He deserves so much better than this! Just is just over 3 years old. He was adopted from us as a tiny puppy, and recently returned by his family.     Weighing in at 120 pounds, Crash is one big boy! We guess him to be an American Bulldog/Great Dane mix. There is not a mean bone in his great big body, but Crash was not property socialized as a puppy, and as a result, this big goofy boy is no 'social genius'. He is WONDERFUL at home, but social scenes aren't his strong suit, and his extra-large size can make him hard to manage. Because of this, Crash will need a dedicated owner willing to work on desensitizing him to social situations, or someone that's okay with him being a home body. He is crate trained, house broken, and working on his leash manners. He knows sit, down and wait. We ... (Read More)are willing to waive his adoption fee for a potential family to put towards a professional trainer to help fine tune him. What Crash may lack in manners, he more than makes up for with his charm and personality. Come meet Crash and see his big, sweet, mushy face in person.     This adorable, snuggly little lady is Adelyn. What she must have gone through with her previous family, I cannot imagine. The family that should have loved, protected, and cared for Adelyn dropped her off at a very high kill shelter in South Carolina just days before she was about to go into labor. Adelyn did not stand a chance at this shelter. Shelters, especially overcrowded outdoor shelters like this one, do not have the resources to accommodate the labor, delivery and neonatal care of puppies safely, so they would not have had any choice but to put mommy Adelyn to sleep with her unborn puppies. Luckily, we were able to commit to her and ... (Read More)brought her all the way to Virginia the next day to be a VPFP dog. Since then, we have all fallen head over heel for this little rockstar. She is completely house broken and has gotten along with anything and everyone she's met so far. Take a seat beside this little lady, and she'll be curled up in your lap just as soon as she can manage. After giving birth to 9 healthy puppies, Adelyn has some late nights ahead of her caring for her large litter. After her puppies are weaned and she is spayed, Adelyn will be looking for a home of her own. So often, our VPFP puppies are scooped up like hot cakes while the perfectly trained well mannered mommies wait and wait for a home of their own. Lets break this trend and make sure Adelyn has a forever home waiting for her after her puppies are raised. Fill out an application to adopt Adelyn today!     Hi there! My name is Sasha. I am looking for a home that needs some silliness in their lives. I'm 3 years old and VERY affectionate. I love to give kisses and cuddle with all people and I absolutely love belly rubs. I am completely house trained and can be trusted alone in the house. If I must be crated, that's fine too, I'll behave. I just really need a place to run and play ( I love my ball......any ball for that matter!). I really love my kong ball because it's indestructible and lasting forever, unlike tennis balls. I can sit, lay down, stay, and heel walk with people. I don't chase squirrels or rabbits ( they are beneath me ... (Read More)and I won't dignify their teasing). I have never been around cats, but if I ignore the squirrels and rabbits, I doubt I'd have an issue with an adorable kitty, but would have to be tested. I love kids when I meet them on walks, and I try to be gentle, but I am a big (about 80 lbs) energetic girl you know. I am an angel when I get my exercise. I just need room to run to burn off some of my excess energy. Want to meet me? Come to an adoption event on 5/3 from 11-3 at Century 21 in Old Town Manassas **Note location change for this event** 9401 East St (on the corner of East St and Church St across from Fulton Bank) *Check out our website at www.espnova.org or our FaceBook page for event updates. Rescue Me ID: 15-04-07-00577Adele (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected

Can you believe this sweetheart was just hours away from euthanasia in a shelter when we found her? After hearting her story, we could not let that happen. A kind neighbor witnessed Adele's 'upbringing' and filled us in on her sad life. Purchased form a backyard breeder as a pup, Adele never knew the luxuries of a warm bed or a kind word. She was beaten on a daily basis when her owner would intentionally let her out and did not want to come back home (I can't say I blame her). There were times when the neighbor witnessed neighborhood children throwing rocks at Adele and poking her with sticks. Eventually the day came when animal control ... (Read More)picked up Adele and her owners were not interested in getting her back. For most little black Pit mixes, Adele's story would have ended there. But, for once in her life, luck was on her side, and she made it out! What's more, you would absolutely not believe how sweet, polite, playful, and happy this little angel is. She loves playing with other dogs, and even though she's seen so much abuse in her short little life, she still loves people! Please meet our sweet Adele and see for yourself. You will fall in love with her! Virginia Paws for Pits is a registered 501c3 charity. All of our dogs are pulled form high kill shelters in VA, NC, SC, TN, and GA. Please email us at virginiapawsforpits@gmail. com for more information on any dog or if you'd like to fill out an adoption application for any dog. Adoption fees are as follows: $250 for puppies under 6 months that have not yet been spayed/neutered, $200 for dogs under 1 year that have been altered, $150 for dogs over 1 year, and $100 for dogs that have been in our program for over a year. Adoption fees include spay/neuter (if old enough), all age appropriate vaccines, dewormer (for puppies), and microchip for all dogs. All of our dogs are either in foster homes or local boarding. Please call us at (540) 820-3546 or email us if you'd like to set up a meet with one of our dogs. We have several featured dogs at our Petco adoption events every Saturday from 10-2. Rescueme.org requires us to list a predominate breed. We use visual identification to do this which is not always reliable. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-04-06-00690Penny (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This is Penny. She's a 5-year-old American Pit Bull Terrior Mix. Penny was raised in an extremely loving environment with her mom and dad from the age of 8-weeks old. However, over the years, circumstances changed. Penny's family relocated and grew. Her family now consists of two small children. This change has not been an easy adjustment for Penny. It is important to say that she has not demonstrated any physical aggression towards others. Additionally, she has shown great behavior around some other dogs, familiar and unfamiliar. However, Penny is not good with all dogs and it has become increasingly difficult to determine which kinds of ... (Read More)dogs she prefers. Her parents have great stimulus control with her. She is highly responsive to their commands, especially from her dad. However, Penny has difficulty adjusting to new people in her environment. It has been noted that when her parents are around, she demonstrates protective behaviors. In the past, when she has been left with others in the absence of her parents, she has not demonstrated the same behaviors. Some antecedents to be mindful of include, but are not limited to: long periods of eye contact, approaching her abruptly or while crated, and standing over her while petting her. Some of these are common antecedents for many dogs, but Penny's response is often elevated more than what a typical dog may demonstrate. Penny is not particularly fond of strong smells, like oranges and nail polish. When exposed to strong scents like these, she tends to show her teeth in dismay. Given the right environment and understanding of her behaviors, Penny is a dog that can thrive and serve as a wonderful protector. Please help this girl find a good home before the weekend. She is currently located in Northern VA. (Less)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Puppy

My name is Maisey. I'm a tiny package of fun, that has adorable written ALL over me! I have so much going for me, besides my good looks, that you are just going to want to make me yours in a heartbeat. I am house and crate trained. I know the command 'sit' and I am learning to 'lie down'. I LOVE car rides and think the best place to co-pilot from is in your lap. I should probably be secured in the backseat so we both can concentrate on the road. :) I have two furry foster siblings that I get along with very well; even the grouchy foster sister has succumbed to my charms and lets me hang out with her now. I'm a very well-balanced gal. If ... (Read More)you take the time to introduce me properly to other doggies, I can get along with most any of them. I love, love, love to cuddle. I can curl up into such a small ball next to you, that you'll think you adopted a cat instead of a petite pittie that actually comes when you call, unlike those felines that could care less. I LOVE to curl up on any soft surface; beds (yours), couches and cushioned chairs are the bomb-diggity. I can't get enough of cuddles and cushions and blankies! Don't get me wrong, cuddling is only part of my charm. I love, love, love to play. I have the cutest little dance I like to do when I get excited; which is most anytime I see you. I stomp my little front feet and wiggle my butt for all I'm worth. I talk too, when I get excited'|play with me'|play with me'|play with me. Please excuse me, though, if it takes me a few seconds to make sure you are best friend worthy. I am doing my best to overcome my past, but someone way back when wasn't so nice to me, and that has made me just a little bit timid with strangers. Once you pass muster, I'm all kisses and butt wiggles. Because I am still working on my confidence, I will do best in a home with big kids that know how to be gentle with doggies like me, who are happy dogs in scaredy-cat bodies. So what do you say? Are you looking for a happy dancing, couch cuddling, want-to-please, friend to other dogs kind of girl? Well, look no further! That's ME.     Cuteness alert! Yep, I'm warning you ahead of time'|if you don't want to fall in love, close your eyes and move on. My name is Apple. I'm part pit bull; part pocket pet. I am currently being treated for demodectic mange, so I'm missing a lot of hair right now. Don't worry though, it will grow back in soon. I even have the cutest 'turkey' neck. Gobble. Gobble. I am a unique and wonderful conversation starter. I'm already crate trained and pretty close to being house-trained. I've only been out of the shelter a few weeks, but my fosters say I'm doing really well learning my house manners. I know how to sit for a treat, and I'm willing to learn all the things doggies need to learn to be great companions. I am looking for a family that will take the time to teach me all kinds of fun and interesting new things. I'm great with other dogs and well-mannered children of all sizes.     Luca is full of love he is still rather puppy like in his antics and loves to be played with. He is great indoors and out. He will be a great companion for a single or a couple. He has to warm up to people and when he trusts he loves. I have had him since he was 6 months old, but he hasn't been socialized. I must travel with my job and I am having a very difficult time managing his care while I am out of town. I probably have until winter and I will have to put him down...I cannot bear to leave him unattended any longer. I truly wish someone would come to this loving boy and give him a chance to love them the way he has me.

Great family dog. Loves to play ball. Likes kids and adults. She lives on a farm and is trained to invisible fence containment...so, doesn't really know how to walk on a leash. She will come when called. She is aggressive toward strangers. She got out of our invisible fence because her collar battery was weak and she bit a neighbor walking down our lane. My neighbor is going to make life very miserable for us and for Willa if Willa remains with us. I am hoping she can find a good home in a more suitable environment. She has been well cared for.

My name is Charlie & I am a beautiful pitty boy who had the misfortune of having owners who didn't take good care of me. They put a collar on me as a puppy & chained me up but they never changed my collar as I grew up so it became embedded in my skin & it hurt me badly. Thankfully I was rescued by the animal control officers who took me to the vet and had the collar cut out of my skin. Then I was taken to the animal shelter where I waited to see if someone would want to add me to their family...sadly nobody was interested in me and my time ran out. That's when the people here at the rescue stepped up to give me a safe place to live until my ... (Read More)family can find me. I am good with adults but I jump too much for children under the age of 16 & I a good with SOME other dogs here that are the same size I am. I walk great on my harness (I can't wear a collar yet) and I like to ride in the car. I am UTD on shots & I will be neutered prior to adoption. (Less)

I love to play with toys and I get along fine with the other dogs here. I don't mind riding in the car but I still need some work on my leash manners and the rescue insists that if you adopt me you enroll me in doggy obedience so I can be the best dog that I can be. I am UTD on shots/monthly preventatives and have already been crate-trained and housetrained. Currently, I am working on my basic obedience and doing very well. It would be great if I could find an active person or family who would continue my training and take me on wonderful adventures with them.     Walnut is a friendly guy with a wonderful personality. We introduced him to a female pit mix and a low energy male. He was not at all aggressive but showed some dominate tendencies. We have not had any children around to test him with so cannot say how he is with them. If you want a funny, loving companion Walnut is your guy.

Got a place in your heart for a sweetheart like me who loves nothing more than to hang out with her favorite people? I love to cuddle and soak up attention. I would love to find a home with a fenced-in yard so I can play ball with you to our heart's content. I'm great at bringing my ball back and dropping it so you can throw it again and again. Don't worry, I won't keep you out all day or cause injury to your arm because of overuse%BD'%BD|I tire out quickly enough and then am ready to go back in and cuddle up some more. My foster peeps say I have just enough energy to be fun, but not enough to drive anyone crazy trying to keep me ... (Read More)exercised. I'm what you'd call medium to low energy. I get along with most everyone, though I prefer my doggy friends to have the same energy level I have and not too much more. Puppy energy is a bit much for me. I love children of all ages and have never met a stranger; everyone is a potential belly-rubber in my book! Cat-free homes are definitely preferred as they are a bit too much fun to chase and bark at. For some reason, the kitties just don't appreciate that too much.     Bonjourno to my future family! My name is Sophia Bella and I'm looking for my fairy tale to come true! You are so going to love me. I am a sweet girl, a loving girl, and a girl who has enough wisdom to know how to be the best kind of friend. I am only about 8 years old. I come with all the goods: housetrained, crate trained, good with other dogs and even most likely cats! I am deaf, but I am awesome at understanding hand signals. The rescue that took me out of the shelter made sure to have all my medical needs taken care of. I now have sparkling clean teeth, had some tumors removed, and have been spayed! I love to go for walks, but I'm at ... (Read More)that stage in life where snuggling up to my person afterward is a great joy and pleasure. And we can even stay inside and get lazy on those cold, rainy days. I am a good copilot in the car, and my only goal is to enjoy the world as it comes. We can go far together, you and I, as we live life to the fullest! You can read more about me on my very own Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/SophiaBellaAFairyTale (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Pit Bull in Virginia
Pit Bull Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. The American Pit Bull Terrier is a powerful dog with an undeserved reputation for inherent viciousness. A Pit Bull that receives attention, firm training, and thorough socialization makes a wonderful family guardian that is trustworthy with children. Pit Bulls need committed, experienced owners that exude leadership. Pit Bulls excel at high level obedience with proper training. Pit Bulls have been bred for dog fights, and unfortunately a dog that is abused, neglected, or whose instinctive aggression is encouraged, can become hostile and dangerous. Pit Bulls can adapt to apartment life with enough exercise.
