Blue is a young adult female. She comes from a rough experience as a puppy but has since then been placed in good homes. She came to us as temporary care due to another dog exerting dominance over her and wanting to fight. She has gotten along great with out 3 and 9 year old. She and our young cat are good friends and she for the most part has a pretty mellow and sporadically spunky temperament. She does not initially do well with separating but time will calm her. She loves to chew so you would have to make sure she had stuff to occupy her. (NOT TENNIS BALLS) she eats those. This girl really just needs love. We are a busy family and are not ... Rescue Me ID: 17-09-28-00486Cerius (female)

Pit Bull    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected, Aggressive

Meet Cerius! She is a full blooded female pit bull. Her exact age is unknown. We were told when we adopted her that she was a year old. She is spayed and up to date on all of her vaccinations. I can provide her shot records, if needed. She has been with my family for about four years now. We adopted her from a local pound and she has been with us since. When we adopted Cerius, we started noticing things about her that were questioning. She was very skittish, and nervous. She instantly took to my family, but she still acted scared quite often. If anyone new came around, it would make her very anxious. We had to lock her in her cage when ... (Read More)guests would come over because she would bark, growl and act as if she would bite the guests. It was only some guest that she would do this with, and it was never toward children. Her aggressive behavior was mostly aimed toward men. The more time that we spent with Cerius, the more apparent it became that she had been abused and likely by a man. There are several things that make her nervous and cause her to shake. She gets very nervous around loud noises, shouting, loud music, brooms, and vacuums. She will become anxious at the slightest raise of your voice. There has been several times that my fiance and I have yelled for her to come to us and she would crouch and pee. There has also been a time when I swept the floor around her and she done the same thing. It is obvious that she is a very nervous and anxious dog. She has suffered abuse, so it makes sense why she would be scared and have anxiety. Through out the years behavior seemed to improve for the most part. She still barked and growled at any males who came to the house, that she did not know, but she has never bit anyone. She acts like she is going to bite, but never does. There are a couple other odd features to Cerius. She does not like to use the bathroom on a leash. So, when we let her outside to use the potty she prefers to be free to run and do her business. She will pee while on a leash, but not poop. I realize how odd this sounds, but it is just how she is. Also, she will NOT sleep on the bare floor. She seriously will not. She will sit there and stare at you until you provide her with something soft and comfortable. She has her own bed and blanket here that she sleeps on. Cerius is house trained and crate trained. She will not use the bathroom in the house, what so ever. She does not do well with most dogs. We have had her around a few other dogs and she done well with them, but if there is a random dog walking up the street and she is outside, she WILL ATTACK the dog. She does well with cats, as long as they don't hiss or scratch her. She is actually pretty friendly with the cats that live here. Lately, Cerius's behavior has escalated somewhat. She has gotten to the point where we can't let her outside without being on her leash, period. If she sees a stranger walking up the street, she will charge at them, bark at them, growl and act as if she is going to attack them. We live in a active neighborhood, so this has become a problem. She can not be trusted outside without being on her leash. This has made it difficult for her to be able to get out and run around/play.The minute she sees an individual she is charging toward them. Cerius has never once growled at me, my fiance or my son. She has never acted aggressive towards us, it's only with strangers. She is so afraid of people and does not trust anyone whom she does not know. On the other hand, she is a great, protective, lovable dog. She loves to snuggle and cuddle. She loves sleeping right beside you in bed, although she can be a bit of a bed hog! She is healthy, prissy, and sweet! She just needs someone who can provide her with proper training, which I can not. I just want her to find the right family! I know that this is going to be challenging but I do believe it is possible! If you have absolutely ANY questions at all, please do not hesitate to ask! (Less)

Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Needs Vaccinations

This pup is such a loving, goofy, easy going dog! We love him so much! Unfortunately we are living in a town house and he is too strong for us to walk him. We have had him from birth because the puppies mom died after giving birth. We fostered the puppies and fell in love with Buster. Unfortunately our living circumstances just won't work for Buster. We would love for him to go to a family who can run and play with him. He loves other dogs and pays no mind to cats. He is just the sweetest thing and loves everyone! He barely ever barks and he loves walks.

Rescue Me ID: 17-06-19-00282Sheeva and Slash (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Needs Vaccinations

Sheeva (right in photo) is an approximately 5 year old female pit mix that has had 2 litters of puppies, including Slash (left in photo) who is from her first litter, born April 25, 2014. Both have had no prior vetting. I am posting them on behalf of their owner who is no longer able to keep them or care for them properly, as they themselves are currently homeless, so I have taken on the task of feeding and caring for their dogs till they are rehomed. Sheeva and Slash are in desperate need of a forever home, and CAN be seperated. Sheeva does well with other dogs but not cats, is housebroken for the most part and good with people of all ages. ... (Read More)She is somewhat of an escape artist and can climb fencing or porches like a cat, so she must be leashed at all times if left alone. Slash is believed to be blind, so prefer a home with older kids so not to startle him and cause an accidental bite. Even though he has never bitten anyone, any animal caught off guard is liable to snap out of fear. Otherwise, he does well with most people. He has been an outside dog most of his life, so I'm unaware of whether or not he is housebroken. I do know that he hasn't been socialized with other animals, therefore he probably wouldn't get along with other animals. He is very low key, calm and sweet, though. If you're interested in either dog please contact me and I can fill you in on more details or answer questions you may have regarding either of them. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Pit Bull in West Virginia
Pit Bull Dogs can make good pets in West Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. The American Pit Bull Terrier is a powerful dog with an undeserved reputation for inherent viciousness. A Pit Bull that receives attention, firm training, and thorough socialization makes a wonderful family guardian that is trustworthy with children. Pit Bulls need committed, experienced owners that exude leadership. Pit Bulls excel at high level obedience with proper training. Pit Bulls have been bred for dog fights, and unfortunately a dog that is abused, neglected, or whose instinctive aggression is encouraged, can become hostile and dangerous. Pit Bulls can adapt to apartment life with enough exercise.
